It's not that I love MS... It's that I like Sony less.

If Phil is talking about what their 9th gen console will be, and not plans for the XB1, they might be planning for the next Xbox to feature expansion ports. It would be easy enough to include enough space to slot in an other GPU and more RAM when they design it. That way, people wouldn't be buying a new console, but new modular parts for it if/when they choose.

Hopefully Build, GDC, and/or E3 shed some more light on what their intent is with this rather ambiguous idea w...

He did say it would add cost, just not the whole cost. For example, you wouldn't need an extra power supply, extra input/output ports, or another Blu Ray drive. As far as direct disc play goes, current gen doesn't support disc play at all and that alone would make the notion of direct-from-disc BC impossible for next gen consoles.

No offense, but even if Ubisoft used that line as an excuse it's still a cheap move to just reuse assets and still charge $60 for it. Blood Dragon had it's own assets and still added new pieces to the map editor - for $20.

I want to know who the company competing with Umbrella is. In Resident Evil 0, they talk about the beginnings of the T-Virus being stolen from another company and completed by Umbrella. As far as I remember, the company is never even named, let alone mentioned again.

I agree. How many opinion pieces have we seen about this already when there aren't any solid details yet? We don't even know if MS is talking about an updated XB1, an upgrade to attatch to it, or future plans for a new generation of consoles. The people writing these opinion pieces should leave their opinions in the comments sections at this point, not flood N4G with a million "articles" about it.

Don't forget, Ares, Sony also REMOVED BC from PS3. I'm sure that they did that "for the players" though, right? O_o

They're not competing. It's like saying, "which is better, a smart phone or a PC?"

Thanks for the insight, Rain. It makes sense that XDMA could be used to turn a CPU core into another GPU of sorts if the demand calls for it. Running virtual machine code would help to "balance" the workload, a term I'd heard being tossed around a lot when the designers talked about the decisions made for the XB1 hardware. It's looking to be an interesting year for gamers, with several big announcements coming from MS and the launch of VR as well!

I mentioned it elsewhere here today, but I remember when rumors of a dual GPU were tossed around before the console's launch. Some people still haven't let that secret sauce go, lol. Interestingly, however, is the fact that the XDK leak shows that the XB1 supports XDMA. Do you think it's possible that MS planned for the XB1 to evolve over time by being upgradable? Why else would the XB1 need to support XDMA since it only has one internal GPU? Why would the XB1 have the bandwidth ...

Irides. The cloud will make VR through OR a reality on XB1 if MS chooses to adopt it, it's that simple.

Let me help you understand:

The odds are stacked against it's success because it's expensive, it's a new market within an existing market(and every other add-on, ever, including Kinect, eventually failed), many of the games feel conceptual and gimmicky at this point, some people don't want to wear something on their heads every time they play a game, and other people will not be able to use it at all due to motion sickness.

Why does everybody forget that MS can reduce latency by 90% and improve graphics fidelity at the same time with their Irides software (a predictive, cloud-based VR solution)? They even demo their tech on the Oculus Rift in the videos. While Irides might have been designed around Hololens, considering it's specs, there's no reason to believe that it couldn't also be a solution to getting VR on the XB1 as well.

The big difference between accessories like the 32x (and PSVR, N64 Ram expansion, etc.) and what MS is suggesting now is the fact that 32x games only worked on 32x and segmented the target audience. Games for the Xbox ecosystem, as it is being explained, will scale to the device you're playing them on. In much the same way as PC games have settings to optomize them to the quality of your PC, the games for the Xbox will still be optomized for all Xbox systems going forwards.

Thank you Game, for admitting that I didn't say it and you are putting words in my mouth! You see, the previous sentence from the quote you pulled was provided for context: "Win 10 is an ecosystem which includes the XB1," but as usual you ignore the whole context to see only what satisfies your own twisted agenda.

Here's the facts:

•MS sells their 1st party games on PC and they get a profit.
•In order to play MS 1st party on a PC yo...

Game, please quote me! Show everyone here where I stated the PC was a MS ecosystem. The only one who is desperate here is you trying to downplay everything MS does. Also, I answered your call out to Pog... Nothing witty to say about that? Come on, man! You running out of smoke to blow???

As usual, Game, you never listen. I said Win 10 was their ecosystem, not PC. If MS sells Quantum Break or Forza or whatever on a PC, they do get profit from the sales of their games within that ecosystem. What exactly is so hard to understand about that?

Xbox gamers aren't affected by whether their console is number one or not. What they are affected by is the number and quality of the titles produced for it. This means that making the games for the PC gives XB1 gamer...

But wait, didn't the PS3 NEED to be upgraded to the PS4 in order to play Sony's newest games? All consoles NEED to be upgraded. Every single one.

What's different about this is that XB1 won't NEED to be upgraded, but CAN be. All games in the XB1 library will be playable no matter which upgrades someone has. Go ahead, buy the add-on for a little extra if you own an XB1. Or a new version of the XB1 with the add-on already installed if you're just getting st...

Okay Game, I'll bite on this one. Win 10 is an ecosystem which includes the XB1. XB1 is one platform that Win 10's ecosystem supports and more software sales means more profit that can be fed into making more games with better quality. XB1 is changing the console race, not quitting it. While one console races to it's end, the other slowly moves forwards by allowing upgrades to inject new life into the console as time goes by. Software owners can also continue to play their games...

Apocalypse, 360 didn't skimp on quality, it skimped on engineering. They put the GPU heatsink right underneath the DVD drive which, spinning at 12x, added unnecessary heat to the heatsink and desoldered the GPU's as a result.

The DVD didn't hurt game content either. GTA V, for example, was just as big as it was intended to be and simply required an install in order to operate. For various reasons, installs were required on both consoles during the last generati...

Bitby, MS already announced the development of the next Xbox, so they're not dropping out. Also, upgrading the XB1 would not have anything to do with them moving to PC. What it means is that when someone upgrades the XB1, or when the XB1 is replaced with next gen hardware, that their investment in games stays with them as they upgrade. This means that they intend for their console business model to more closely resemble that of the PC, and showcases some of the reasoning behind having t...
