I'm not sure where you're getting this hostile attitude towards Carmack.
"Considering the boost Mantle could give to a Steambox, MS and Sony may wind up being downright hostile to it."
It also enables less skilful programmers access to routines left to the, more expensive to employ, machine code programmer.
and also surprised we didn't like the way they sneaked in the new T&C's
Yeah very cool and sneaking in the new T&C's regarding no reselling of disc and digital games :(
But take that iPad, add a powerful enough CPU & GPU (so 5yrs +) then connect a bluetooth keyboard, mouse, trackball, gamepad (available now) and plug into your TV/monitor (available now) and what have you got that's just so different.
If anything it would be more like a modern day Atari / Commodore computer than a games console as you can do so much more with them.
I still go back and have a blast on my old Atari 8-bit computer (or use s PC emulator). So many totally unique and addictive games not seen on any future platforms.
Really? well that's a plus for MS then!
I think I'm about to cancel my PS4 pre-order after reading the new forced T & C where it states I must not resale my disc or digital games unless expressly authorised by us (Sony) and by the publishers.
Sony say one thing then sneak in exactly the opposite.
It's much what Commodore said about the Amiga. They thought the home games computers was here forever - why would home gamers want a dull PC or a limited use console.
I have no doubt the current and next gen tablets will have little impact on consoles but move forward 5 or so years and likely tablets will have evolved into powerful bits of kit and on par with PS4/X1 consoles.
I guess the PS4's 500GB is like the PS3's old 60GB which was fine without psn games, photos, music, TV etc etc.
Shame you can't use the USB 3.0 ports for external Hard drives.
It's a great shame they didn't take the next gen consoles as an opportunity show off what the franchise could be enhanced too now there's little or no limits on memory etc.
Instead they use an old engine geared up towards the limits of 360/PS3 and just slap in a better texture pack.
If you want some of the same old then just play some of the same old and stick in Cod4, Cod MW2/3, WaW, BL Ops 1 & 2.
I think this is the version required to beat the PS4 :)
Wow, video clips that would put an Amiga NFS game to shame!!
I'd go with Wii Sports and Red Dead Redemption as both stand out as very unique and go into the category of UT99, BF1942, Alternate Reality, Cytron Masters, Seven Cities of Gold etc etc etc.
Most other games are just variants of titles past.
Wow, well that's it then, Xbox Fitness means switching to Xbone :)
I've got 2 PS3's and will keep one for Blu-ray movies with the remote control, watching iPlayer, Lovefilm, NowTV etc and got plenty of games that I still enjoy playing and will likely go back to time and time again (much like on my PC) - and there's GT6 :)
The other PS3 I'm boxing up ready to sell.
Yeah more like buying map packs but now they've actually cut n paste sequences!
+ not very good reviews
using old engine even with new next gen kit
Cut n Paste sequences from previous versions
Finally a Battlefield game for next gen consoles that offers the full PC style game
Not included in PS4 bundles (no idea about X1 bundles)
While not major in themselves it all adds up and the next is that friends aren't playing it.
I just wish the PS4 started off with options to choose HD size as 500GB means there's already an added cost of an upgrade.
Thing is it's not just bad decisions about the X1 - just look at the mess with Windows platform too.
