Good for him to try out something different. Though I usually take the position that "A-list" actors aren't necessary for games, when used correctly (and he was in COD), it can make for a more dynamic story.
What the gaming industry really needs to do is quit going after the actors and go after the big time writers and directors (for the story).
That would take gaming to a whole new level.
Really, you can quit playing the game once you play and clear the raid...overachievers can clear hard mode.
That bit of content (if you can manage without the bugs) is outstanding.
The rest...Well, I mean the gunplay is solid...Teaming up with friends is solid...The rest is irritating beyond words.
Truly, my biggest gripe with the game is going from 28/29 to the oh so elusive 30.
It just sucks that for the entire game, you don't have to rely on RNG at all. Yeah, its grindy, but you can do it. Now, at the tailend of a long grind, your efforts to clear the raid (and maybe even hard raid) are rewarded with a completely random RNG to give you that final level. And that level matters as the damage penalty is close to 30% on the hard mode raid.
The gun...
I kinda love this game. I recognize the lack of content and its many short comings. But it still delivers an experience that is fairly unique for consoles. Getting online with my buddies in different cities to tackle Nightfall, weekly, Raid in one nigh is my favorite day of the week.
My armory is enviable. But now one piece of raid armor. LOL!
Gawd, I hope this man is correct!
He is right, the tech is there to really give some incredibly rich and deep games.
That said, RPGs can be costly and publishers may be a tad hesitant in pouring a lot of money into these things without a "casual" hook.
My bet, is that we see more and more "other" type games take on more on more RPG elements.
Take Destiny for instance. Though it ultimately fell a little fl...
There is a brilliance in Alpha Protocol. A buggy mess, but there is some greatness there if you can preserve. And laugh at the unintentional comedy of the death animations
Certainly a big issue.
I almost always view my game purchases in terms of (entertainment hours / dollars ) > enjoyment for those hours.
Strangely, I have played Destiny over 100 hours. Crazy for such a game lacking in ACTUAL content. Enjoyed all of those hours. I derived a lot of value from the game.
As such, I will likely play the DLC over 20 hours...and if 1 dollar gets me an hour of entertainment...I will buy it.
Bungie and Activision really screwed the pooch on this thing.
Its painful to see such great gameplay and art design get crushed with poor management decisions and dumbed down systems.
30 fps is fine for most games. 60fps is better.
DAII was simply a serviceable RPG. Average. Because it wasn't Origins, it is hated. But really. Its just meh.
I have never put in more hours in a game that was as flawed as Destiny.
The negatives:
Not enough story.
Not enough story missions.
Not enough strikes
Not enough leveled strikes (go higher)
Only one raid.
The positives:
Rock solid gameplay
The difficulty settings really change the way you play the level.
Just picking one exotic per slot and focusing a build around it.
Ya know, I h...
Ive never played a game for the crazy amount of time that is so seriously flawed.
No, it doesn't "suck." The gameplay is too rock solid for that. Im 90 hours in and still enjoying it.
However, you can tell...even in the design of the game that Bungie had loftier goals for the title but for whatever reason, gutted it.
I tell you...if the game accomplished what I think Bungie set out to do in the beginning, it may have been a GOAT.
Maybe they will get it done with Destiny 2.
I don't think people are against new IP's at all. This is crazy to say. I love them. And want things to be continually changed and for gamers to grow.
What gamers are sick of are companies trying to be the next "Call of Duty" and throw amazing amounts of cash at new IPs to be "the next big thing." Sheet like "believe the hype". Ugh.
Of course, what stings is that the games fall a bit flat due to so much marketing a...
One can really waste a lot of time in Destiny if you don't have a plan to level up.
Really, all you need to know is to rely on RNGesus as little as possible.
Hit 20...Do the vanguard bounties and daily every day. Get to vanguard rank 2. Buy legendary armor. Wait for Xur to sell an exotic helm, buy it. Whole process will probably take about 2 1/2 to three weeks. And you are level 28 and doing the raid...Where its all RNGesus.
I kept playing because of the dangling of the Raid...so I wanted to gear up and play it. And I have some good buddies doing the same.
That's why I still play it. And I enjoy it.
I mean, that's pretty much the goal of the game as it stands now. To grind up and be able to take ths on.
I have warmed up to this game a lot since release.
At first, the sting of it not being Mass Effect, Borderlands, and Halo all wrapped up into one game, stung.
Now, teaming up with two friends to tackle the nightfall, weekly and the raid is a ton of fun.
You can hit a nice rythmn with the game if you only play it a little bit a day. Do the bounties and the daily....level up your weapons. then put it down.
Did you honestly think that money was not changing hands for this?
Amazing.
