I think demos are necessary for new ip and games that have had significant gameplay changes made. It's a great way to raise awareness of brand and give consumers a taste of what's to come. It can also be used to significantly improve a product before it hits the market, case in point is Frontlines where the developers used a lot of gamer feedback from the multiplayer demo to enhance the final retail product.
Demos can also be used as a mass marketing tool. Look at GRID's $1millio...
And Unchartered was awesome. :)
Sorry but usually I'm fairly balanced in my criticisms but COD5 is all but confirmed as a WW2 shooter set in the Pacific Theatre (ie. new theatre) where the Americans and Japanese fought till 1945, and using the COD4 engine.
Did anyone say badass? :/
Seriously though, this looks awesome. Meatflag sounds like a lot of fun. Seems a lot more strategy is being put into the sequel with features such as shields, sticky grenades and team leaders. Good to see Epic's not just churning out a sequel. :)
EA have already set an internal target for an average 80% on metacritic as part of their reform agenda and now MS has set 65% as part of a new XBLA benchmark.
Personally I use the site regularly and use it as a guide as well as a one click reference to all the various review sites - as some sites I place far more faith in than others.
Generally any game over 80% will get my attention, but that will vary per genre and particularly for casual and arcade titles which th...
I just read that to!
Last time I checked the Middle East and Africa were not part of the European continent! lol
It may well be in the final contenders for GotY, and it may eclipse Halo 3's single platform sales record, but the competition this year is immense with three very strong themes - innovation, story and user generated content.
Unfortunately for Gears, I see other titles excelling in these three key areas more so.
EDIT:
@ Mucudadada
I understand your sentiments and I don't forsee Gears 2 to be GotY but in terms of sales I'm pretty confident it...
Ninja Gaiden 2 - farewell to a gaming franchise and greatest action game ever (according to EDGE if they fix the camera).
Fable 2 - Peter Molyneux has so many grounbreaking titles under his belt, that even though he talks promiscuously sometimes, you can never count him and his studio out.
Tom Clancy's EndWar - This game innovates all over the place. Built from the ground up for consoles, entirely voice controlled, an online MMO RTS format and a promising, upcoming s...
But there's still so many unknowns until we get to E3. And there's some ambitious outsiders like Banjo 3 and some JRPGs that we just don't know enough about leading to very polarised opinions at the moment (love or hate).
Based on current titles I'd say it'll come down to MGS4, GTAIV, Gears 2, and Fallout 3.
Given the tendency for journalists to go for multi platforms, and assuming some of the GTAIV hype has dissipated by end of year I'm going to place my money cauti...

I don't have a problem knowing about a game being under development earlier than 12months beforehand (much like film pre production), but I do think there's an argument for holding off video and screenshot footage of a game until it's within a year of release.
Microsoft learned early in this generation the costs of such early showings with Too Human and Alan Wake, and appear to be making amends as evidenced by their less than six months to go announcements of Gears 2, Viva Pinata...
I really loved this game. It was my favourite party title on the original Xbox, and was only superseded by Smash Bros on the Gamecube last generation. It was a fantastic four player beat em up, had a very British sense of humour and very clever HongKong/Hollywood film satires.
I know the chances are slim of a revival. But I can live and hope! :)
Yeah bring it back with Quackshot, Mickey Mouse's Magical Quest and Aladdin as well and I'll be stoked!
Some fanboys are giving you disagrees because you're rightly pointing out the issues with the PS3 demo.
Never fear the developer has acknowledged that the demo did have such issues, unlike the fanboys, and they have been addressed in the final retail build.

EDIT: The game looks like great fun and probably the best of its genre this year. :)
Enjoy PS3 gamers. It's a fantastic shooter and it is one of the best games that PS3 gamers will play this or any other year.
+1 :)
Yeah it could be an interesting game... I'm still shaking my head at that Saints Row 2 preview. lol
I hope it sells through the roof and proves the EDGE cynics wrong.
Read the article!
It looks like a lot of fun but I just don't know if I can justify spending $20 on one arcade title.
The analyst who made these predictions has an accuracy rating on past predictions of just 25%, and in the case of sales predictions 0%. To put that into perspective the well known but often derided analyst Michael Pachter is right 60% of the time.
