It's the implementation that I'm worried about.
If they can do a more polished version of Bioware's Mass Effect combat that would be promising.
Oh how I loved thee! :P
In regards to GoW2's story, well I'm sure it's better than the first one, but Bioshock?
The game isn't due till November and we've already got people comparing it to Bioshock!
Please Epic do not let the "badass" hype destroy this game. Get back to designing and stop promoting. The game will sell itself... and besides if Microsoft puts it on Mountain Dew it'll give Halo 3's single console record a run for its money.
Yeah first game was fantastic.
I'd love to see Too Human surprise everyone and do 2+ million, but I think it'll largely depend on marketing muscle to counter the poor first impressions. Either that or a Metacritic rating near 90%.
I think Saints Row 2 will clean up for all those sick of GTAIV and maybe wanting something more akin to San Andreas. Plus this time it's got a multiplatform release.
And it would be nice to see Aussie developed Mercenaries 2 get a lot more love than the original, which w...
The comments about console MMO's are of particular interest:
"I think we're right on the edge of a huge explosion in terms of console. A big problem is how much storage is on these things. When you think about the size of the games we make, how do I update someone's game all the time if they've only got a 20gb hard drive and half of it is full of game demos and patches from other games?
The next thing is MMOs have been fairly complicated games. They're really we...
I suspect both Fallout 3 and Banjo Kazooie 3 will be far more enjoyable if viewed as their own entities rather than parts of much loved but old-school franchises.
Great read. Thanks for the insight. :)
The Lucas Arts back catalogue is still the envy of the adventure genre.
Bring back Grim Fandango and I'm sold! :)
Thief 4 would be fantastic, and along with Deus Ex 3 and Prototype, that might make me a very happy gamer come 2009!
And nice to see another believer in Too Human. There's a reason that Microsoft signed off on a trilogy a month back and I'm sure we'll all get that soon enough. :)
I actually think the disagreements illustrate how spoilt we've been as gamers this generation.
For me personally my top five is Portal, Mass Effect, Mario Galaxy, Call of Duty 4 and GTAIV.
And if I went to ten: Gears of War, Unchartered, Oblivion, Bioshock and Halo3 (not so much the single player, but the online integration and user generated content support is unparalleled at this stage).
This is easily the best next gen JRPG yet and it's nice to see it did well in America. The graphics and music are beautiful and the combat quirks make it more interesting than most.
Yeah I agree. My view is that Bethesda as a developer should either go full blown FPS or stick to turn based... as a Fallout fan it's different! lol
He disproves his own assertions!
And whilst violence has been shown to be related to gaming violence... the critics always seem to miss the part that not one legitimate study has found a causal link!
It's the Beatles and Stones all over again... lol :P
"Sony hold a large steak in S-Enix, Final Fantasy will never be on a rival machine while that is still the case."
Sony currently hold, as of the end of last financial year, 8.6% of Square Enix stock, compared to Enix founder and honorary chairman Yasuhiro Fukushima 21.3%, and his private company's additional 8.8%, giving him over 30% of the company. Square founder Masafumi Miyamoto owns approximately 7.1%, whilst the remaining 54%+ majority is controlled largely by Amer...
Rumours strongly suggest it will be set in WW2's "Pacific War". So the focus will be the Americans and Japanese (no more Nazis!).
It'll be interesting to see if the attitude towards war is consistent with COD4 and Clint Eastwood's "Flags of Our Fathers" & "Letters from Iwo Jima" or if the whole thing will be a "Saving Private Ryan" flag raising and propaganda exercise at Iwo Jima! lol :P
I'm betting on the latter, but I ju...
Anybody else?
Same engine mate
This is going to be released within a year of the last one! Unbelievable... I just hope the new "Pacific War" setting makes it feel fresh.
Yeah Uncharted really was a high water mark for the PS3 but these screens look even better, albeit less vibrant. My only concern is that we don't always know which MGS4 screens are cut scenes and which are gameplay, so I'll reserve judgment until I can put them side by side.
