Microsoft has gone on the record several times since their recent showcase saying they no longer beleive purchasing studios is the most effective way to use their money and have taken particular exception to EA's $1bn purchase of Bioware and Pandemic, which they felt was ridiculously overpriced.
In fact I'm sure Shane Kim made a comment that he could make 20 Halo 3's for that price and still have money left over! lol
It's not happening unless Sega comes dirt che...
Arrrrghhhh when I was thinking Fallout 2 I had a strange blank on the developer. Shocking! lol
And I know they're not up the very top but I should've given Ubi and Firaxis yells out for EndWar and Civ Rev respectively. Possible GoTY's for their genre on consoles, not overall though thanks to Starcraft 2.
As for Obsidian I don't know much about the Aliens RPG but I've been following Alpha Protocol and it looks spectacularly original. A spy RPG (MMO?). Looks Awesome! :...
1) Agree. The third parties appear to be much stronger this year than at previous E3's.
2) Agree. And yes it seems very odd! lol
3) 50-50. On the one hand it appears lame from the list above but then there's great support coming from EA (Skate It/Spore), THQ (de Blob/Deadly Creatures), Ubisoft (Raving Rabbids & Casual lineup), SEGA (MadWorld), The Conduit amongst others. It's not as good as the other consoles but it's a hell of a lot better third party quality su...
I agree mate. And not just about NG2. I think people seem to forget what reviewers are looking for as opposed to fans. The standards in gaming even over the last 9 months has risen considerably. It goes a long way to explaining why titles being released now may struggle to meet the scores of titles released earlier. A Halo 3 released today would not receive the scores of last September, simply because the playing field has changed and expectations are even higher.
In regards to N...
I think this has much more to do with Rare developing for the 360 motion controls and developing a Mii system. A number of friends have worked on "Newton" titles so it certainly exists and maybe this is just a natural progression of a rumour.
"360 motion controls... Rare doing Mii's... Microsoft doing motion controlled games... Rare doing motion games... Rare's working with Nintendo on DS games... Rare developing for Wii!"
I think MS using the DS ...
Yeah I'm all covered with FPS and I'd suggest so is Xbox Live. Halo 3 and COD4 are all you need according to Major Nelson's activity charts and Bad Company/Rainbow Six might be a decent distraction. But those four have got me sorted on the FPS front.
Gears 2 will be all the shooting I need at the end of this year if early indications are anything to go by it'll keep my killing urges satisfied. lol
Lost Odyssey is great (pity bout your 4th disc?!) and is personally th...
Nice retort MK! Bubbles. :)
The last part was especially surprising.
I probably didn't need all the points I made before as I was really just saying it's too early to tell, although this is the guy who personally picked Fallout 3 as his GoTY earlier this year in an office pool. Mainly backed on E3, Oblivion's GoTY awards, the Fallout franchise, and what I believe is often overlooked but often incredibly important... It's multiplatform!
My main concern is...
@green
That's another title I hadn't thought of!
But to be honest I like the fact MS is stretching beyond the FPS and into other genres. This year's lineup is incredibly broad compared to previous years (only one shooter!) and when you take in the third party exclusives the amount of Strategy, Adventure and RPG titles is very impressive.
If they release the Newton with a games pack, and announce Alan Wake and Forza 3 it'll be a perfectly balanced portfol...
It looks awesome but I wouldn't call it game of the year yet because:
A) I haven't played it.
B) I'm playing MGS4 right now.
C) Spore is pushing boundaries everywhere.
D) Fallout 3 looks awesome, but critic's franchise nostalgia may hurt it.
E) Too many AAA titles in Q4 for all platforms making a good guess difficult at the moment.
F) There are always darkhorses and there's more than a few this year.
G) Errrr.... We haven't had E3 yet!
Welcome to N4G.
There are logical, intelligent people here that actually work in the industry but they are often drowned out by the Sony and MS haters.
All I can say is use your report button, the bubble system and maintain a level head and hopefully we'll see this site return to it's roots as "News for Gamers" and not "News for Fanboys to Kick and Scream About".
OT I agree with your argument. Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo are all in b...
The source says the titles are focused at a MS perceived shortfall in Q4 this year for the "core" market. Looking at Sony's announced E3 list, I'm guessing that refers to Resistance 2 and Motorstorm 2 because MS doesn't have any first party FPS or Racer announced that could compete.
So based on MGS history
FPS/Shooter: Halo Chronicles, Huxley, Brute Force 2, Conker, Perfect Dark, "Newton" shooter.
Racer: Forza 3, PGR 5, an unnamed Turn 10 pr...
5million, yep, 6million, maybe, but 8million? I don't think so, that's more than twice the GTAIV numbers and that's a far more mainstream title.
Enjoy the game and ignore the reviews. This game is one for the hardcore. A beautiful and loving tribute to Solid. :)
On the IGN list it's got
Capcom Project #1 [untitled] (other) NEW
Capcom Project #2 [untitled] (other) NEW
What could they be?
I have no idea but I'd love one to be Dead Rising 2. :)
I'll just be stoked when games are considered art in the mainstream and not just some strange addictive hobby of young white guys wearing glasses and pimples in their parent's basement! ;) lol
"Yes we can. Yes we can. Yes we can..."
Vote XboxOZ360 in '08 for "CHANGE - we can believe in".
Good stuff mate! :)
The more this site takes the attitude of yours the better. Bubbles. :)
I wonder if any of the other 360 sites will follow your lead?
I'm not going to ask where those "fingers" have been... But I agree. This game rocks and that site could teach some N4G users a lot! :)
EDIT:
Good to know! Your nickname's been giving me dirty connotations for months now! lol
And now back to more important things... Act 2 MGS4 :)
Yeah finished Halo and the story was pure popcorn cliche. An 8 at best.
My point was they're different types of games so I give more weight to the story in MGS4 than I do in Halo. Conversely online gameplay is much more important to Halo than MGS4.
Personally to me both games are awesome, but for entirely different reasons and released at different points of evolution in the industry. So comparisons seem pointless. I understand what you're getting at but I don't thi...
The story's one of the game's strengths. Although I've already had a couple of cutscenes well over 20 minutes, that probably didn't need to be.
Quick Review from first eight hours:
The presentation's a 10. Total class.
Story is a 9.5. An MGS fan's wet dream.
Gameplay is a 9. It's mostly the same, but can play as shooter!
Design is a 9.5. Levels are still linear but they're large and beautiful.
So far it's a 9.5 - Act 1 was Awesome! :)
And don't forget Mistwalker's Cry on which looks awesome. :)
