BUBBLES FOR YOU ALL! :)
As I said somewhere above, the story is short but the experience is not. If you rush through it you'll be done in 10-12hrs, but just like Diablo it's the heavy replay value that will see that playtime skyrocket!
If you dig the gameplay, which is very much a more sophisticated version of Diablo's click-click, you'll pour several dozen hours into this one. :)
You make some fair arguments from someone who can only judge on what he's seen but hasn't played. However, claiming its damage control is a bit far fetched in my opinion. Too Human is a divisive game and Matt from IGN is just expressing his love for the game as opposed to the hate that others will have (legitimately or otherwise).
But I have to pull you up on one statement. You said,
"I didn't see so many cheering for Lair or Haze after the huge flops they were ...
MK you get bubbles for being the second person today that's "took the words right outta my mouth!"
I've argued for weeks, from a much more informed and NDA tight position than most, that Assassins Creed is a much fairer comparison than the ridiculous Haze/Lair comparisons from those who want to hate. It's the perfect parallel for Too Human in a number of ways, but most prominently in its overhype, repetive gameplay and the subsequently divided opinion.
I'm ...
Yeah when I read that earlier today *Meatlof voice* "it took the words right outta my mouth!"
Bubbles for you Green for pointing out the best quote as yet.
From what I've seen, and may have played ;), I share similar feelings to Matt and I feel the game is still on track for a Metacritic of 8 (+/- 5).
It's not everyone's cup of tea, but for those who like their tea it's one hell of a tasty cup! :)
EDIT: Given my tea analogy, if you...
All gamers should play MGS4... so I can't blame em! :)
That'd be your list and not IGN's! :)
Yeah bubbles for the reminder, I had completely forgotten! lol
It will never be an FPS but there are certainly guns in this one, with muskets and pistols (look at the box) amongst others. :)
Yeah I love this game. I hope it gets plenty of retail love and they continue to tweak and offer fresh content in the future. The various scenarios, multiplayer modes and "game of the week" really keep it fresh and interesting (as do the random maps and 16 civs!).
Great review and the only one that's stuck in my mind other than IGN's which put it perfectly when awarding an 8.8:
"But Civ Rev is not just a straight port of prior Civilization games. Rathe...
Yeah not a bad idea for private matches. As multi tends to last anywhere between 2-4hrs. Having said that the online multiplayer is great fun full of private chats, promises, backstabbing, alliances and lots of laughs (when I get revenge)!
I largely agree with you. But please learn to use paragraphs instead of starting a new one for every sentence! :)
Yep you'd get it. MGS and SC are polar opposites in the genre, but are both awesome franchises in their own right
If you're looking for a complex story Blademask is right and you should head over to the unparalleled experience of MGS4.
However, if you're more interested in the stealth gameplay side, SC: Chaos Theory is as good as it gets in the genre.
Both great games, and for 1200 points SC: Chaos Theory is an absolute steal, still looks as good if not ...
"Where the F*** is the keyboard/mouse options? I wonder if developers forget about that PS3 bonus."
I wonder if you forgot that this is a console game built from the ground up for consoles and not PC? :p
Only stirring mate! :)
All jokes aside take my above post's advice and that of IGN and approach it as a new IP set in the Civ world and you should enjoy it... particularly the fast and brutal multiplayer. :)
I'm disappointed in GameSpy and a number of reviewers who have failed to review this as essentially a new IP and not a port/sequel as some have interpreted it.
IGN got it right with an 8.8, stating:
"But Civ Rev is not just a straight port of prior Civilization games. Rather, it is a ground-up rebuild of the basic Civ idea, crafted with consoles in mind."
If you approach the game as such you'll recognise it as probably the best strategy title ...
@Boldy
You get all that you mentioned plus the three XBLA titles for free. So if you work it out the extra $20 includes the 800point XBLA titles (approx. $10) and an Xbox Gold Live for 1 month ($4.50).
That means that the DVD (probably all the documentaries on one disc - free as DLC), additional content (likely to cost $5-10 as DLC) and the collectible Hobbe figurine (priceless!) are costing you no more than $5.50!
Take into account the additional conten...
Very clever promotional work and an ingenious little bit of cross game pollination.
This game looks fantastic. Can't wait! :)
It's still one of my favourite MS exclusives and IMO the best work RARE has done in many years. It reminds me of the Bullfrog era of god games, albeit with a very sick and twisted sense of humour behind the kiddy veneer.
The sequel will definitely be worth a look if not a purchase, but you should go pick up the original for around $5-10 beforehand. The tutorial/demo hides the depth and then all of a sudden 2-3hrs in layers upon layers start revealling themselves and gameplay beco...
It was one of my favourite games of the early next gen cycle and was the perfect and addictive comedown from a nasty as hell Gears multi session.
VP2 looks like more of the same deceptive goodness. :)
You raise a good point about games journalism, and I think what this preview indicates is that the more time journalists/gamers spend with Too Human the more they get it and get out of it.
As you may have seen with the 1UP video preview they had played it through once but yet had no idea about the hidden rooms, runes and the combat/inventory depth.
My hope is that given the gold version should be in reviewer's hands at least two-three weeks in advance in the US and a...
