Yeah I have no idea what he's talking about... although the dangling string is a good observation. :)
In terms of art style though they're very different. LBP has a much softer palette with smoother geometry and arguably more realistic detailing, whereas Banjo is like a freaking rainbow with deliberately blocky, cartoon-like geometry that pays homage to the N64 roots.
They're both going to be fantastic, but I think people hear platformer and user generated content in...
To me both games look fantastic but I think it's more apparent than ever (thanks to those videos) that they are very different beasts. Rare has focused the player creation on gameplay mechanics to progress through a story as opposed to LBP's focusing the player creation on level design as standalone creations.
They both look fantastic, and as good as Mario Galaxy was, these two appear to push the genre in much more exciting, and very different, ways.
It's wholly ironic that there is not one FPS at MS's E3 or for the Xmas lineup and only one shooter (Gears 2) in total. Instead we're getting sims, RTS, WRPGs, JRPGs, platformers, action, adventure; and lets hope some survival horror/adventure (Alan Wake), racing (Forza 3) and fighting (KI3) turn up as well! :)
Just to add to what I said above.
Check out this video of Banjo Land http://www.n4g.com/xbox360/... and then try and explain why things are working without button prompts?!
It's an old school Banjo fan's wet dream...
Welcome to Banjo Land... http://www.n4g.com/xbox360/...
There's three titles I know of that are coming for Newton (one's a bundle) but Boom Blox would be awesome and with Xbox Live and the player created levels it would sell a hell of a lot better for EA (who I'm sure are3 already considering it!)
Rare are seriously one of a kind, what other developer makes jokes about a flop of a game they developed (Grabbed by the Ghoulies). That garbage bin full of ghoulies is all class. :)
This and Banjo look like Rare is coming back with a vengeance.
The first Viva Pinata was a poorly marketed, but fantastic god/sim game. This looks like a more polished and expansive sequel that no doubt is as addictive as the life consuming first one. :)
Well hurry up and hop off! lol
The game is much deeper than it initially appears and is a solid challenge with heaps of variety with maps, scenarios and civs. Multiplayer is particularly awesome with all the deal brokering and backstabbing that occurs, and there's a new scenario every week with online leaderboards to boot! :)
"BETTER THAN YOU THINK
Still, no game is perfect. Games aren't supposed to be perfect, they're supposed to be fun, which is what this game has accomplished, so far, with flying colors. Too Human is shaping up to be an interesting, enjoyable change from the drab trends of this ever-growing industry. It is taking what has worked beautifully in the past and is melding it with phenomenal art direction and a unique take on a battle-infused mythology."
I'm still ...
Yeah and what makes it worse is he keeps making excuses for why there's not any button prompts (particularly in the Banjo Land walkthrough!) and yet everything still works.
And they said there was no waggle... lol
Either way, can't wait for this and LBP! :)
Another review, much like IGN and XboxOZ, that understands this is not a port or sequel, but essentially a fresh IP built specifically for consoles.
I love this title and it's arguably the best strategy game on modern consoles.
Although I think it's more apparent than ever that they are very different beasts. Rare has focused the player creation on gameplay mechanics to progress through a story as opposed to LBP's focusing the player creation on level design as standalone creations.
They both look fantastic, and as good as Mario Galaxy was, these two appear to push the genre in much more exciting, and very different, ways.
Can't wait! :)
If only you had a 360 and I'd suggest you play a troll in the upcoming Fable 2. ;p Another great exclusive! :)
Anyway, Banjo looks great to me and I personally can't wait to hunt for jiggies! :)
As an old-school fan, I highly suspect this may be my favourite level! lol
Looks fantastic and I can't wait. Great to see Rare back in top form! :)
I've watched both vids twice and read through the IGN preview, and this game looks so full of potential and creativity it's like the old-school Rare all over again.
Day 1 for me to! :)
Looks fantastic and I can't wait to see more. :)
Check out the IGN conclusion:
"Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts is a game that you'd do well to keep your eye on. The visual style is great and the possibilities in the gameplay seem almost unlimited. Rare is pushing the boundaries of what a platformer is and, in doing so, is bringing fresh ideas to a genre that has fallen out of favor with gamers. Even with all of the new ideas, it's clear that the team has ensured ...
Not only can you earn money, but you can borrow and go into debt where "it's possible this could lead to dire consequences for your hero in Fable II."
Now that's cool. :)
Better yet is the fact that you can play tournaments not only for money but for unique items including potions, dog tricks and tattoos!
Sweet. :)
This is a seriously innovative idea and it looks like I've now got solitaire, roulette and a slot machine (yawn) for m...
Spot on!
This game needs to be promoted like hell. It fills a massive genre void in the console market (dungeon crawling action!) and has a great premise to back it up. I'm hoping that MS pulls their finger out and promotes this heavily post E3. You can expect a demo by the end of this month and we all hope a significant TV and print campaign - the game really has a lot of mainstream commercial potential that as yet appears unsupported and instead solely focused on the hardcore m...
The games are exceptionally different and you're right about the possibilities of different development schedules.
Banjo 3 was officially announced as in development at X06 in September, 2006.
LBP was officially announced as in development at GDC07 in March, 2007.
Given both have been tightly under wraps, particularly Banjo until GDC08 this year, I find it highly unlikely there was any significant borrowing of ideas.
