No dedicated buttons = awkward experience. For years critics said the PSP couldn't offer a satisfying gaming experience because it only had one analog nub, now we're supposed to believe that you can have a compelling and satisfying gaming experience with no buttons at all?
Mmmmm Lights
I think the tone has to do with a lot of it. There's no doubt MS showed a lot of gameplay at E3, but it felt like "okay, we have to do this or else", but aside from that it was all about connecting every device in your house and pocket to the 360. With Sony, Tretton sort of just read off what PSN offers in terms of various services, then moved on back to games.
I don't even necessarily think WiiU needs amazing third party support.
Hear me out, unless developers really take the time to use the new WiiU controller in creative and innovative ways, do we really need the same game available on three different platforms?
While you can get away with just having a 360 or just having a PS3 this generation, I don't think the WiiU could ever be someone's sole console unless Nintendo proves it can cater to the har...
Cooler, less power consumption, cheaper. Plus, new things, even ones that have been simply redesigned, always excite consumers. Plus, its about time they make these things available in different colors here in the US and this would be the perfect way to introduce them.
Easily? No way. If Obama wins re-election, he will have overcome incredible odds. The far right is determined to get him out of office. Romney has the look and the money to get into office. It's going to be a hell of a fight.
@LNDCalling
I'd love to see them announce the new model and price at TGS, it would be poetic since that's where they did it the last time. TGS show is late September correct? Kaz, well I guess not Kaz anymore, announces the new model and 149-199 price point. The new model will come with a complimentary three month PS+ Membership, three months of Netflix for free, plus vouchers for free downloads of UC1 and UC2. Just in time for the holiday season.
Mig...
Yeah, because the two are completely related.
There were still new versions of the PS2 being released that were more streamlined inside, even with the PS3 out. We all know the PS3 will turn into Sony's casual box after the PS4 is released, and part of that process is making the PS3 as affordable as possible. Everyone was hoping for a PS3 price cut to $199, imagine if they slim it down and cut costs down to the point where they can get away selling it at $149 by the holid...
MS mastered the spin, they claim they are the best selling console this generation, while ignoring the Wii's existence.
My library has a small collection of games, but some gems have come through, Portal 2, R+C ACIT, Modnation.
A disappointing moment for the gaming media.
I was pretty surprised there wasn't even just a mention of 3D as something that the PS3 does, even if just to bring it back into people's minds. On the other hand, I don't think they needed to dedicate anytime to it, we know its there. Besides, we all know if Sony dedicated 10 minutes to it, there'd be articles talking asking why Sony wasted time on 3D when no one cares about it.
All that typing and his fingers only found the period key once, and it wasn't even to indicate the end of a sentence, impressive.
I think they really just made a mistake launching so many games at once. It was a very good idea on their part, and it garnered some positive press initially, but this is a "what have you done for me lately" society and things quickly turned negative once the dust cleared. If Sony had a softer launch lineup, and sort of held off on Golden Abyss as the Vita's "summer blockbuster", while also trickling out Resistance and Gravity Rush, I think they would have been better ...
Don't see how the Last of Us demo played out any differently then the opening to UC3, if you just watched a feed of someone playing the brawl in the bar, you would've thought it was scripted too. ND have pretty much mastered this style of gameplay.
I still think the PS3 could keep going for another strong two years as Sony's flagship, but at the end of the day, Sony has to keep pace with Microsoft. If MS is aiming for a 2013 holiday release date for the next 360, then Sony is going to have to do the same.
If both consoles launch at the same price in a similar time frame, it will make for an interesting time for gamers.
Just imagine, Halo 5 vs Uncharted 4 at launch? You have to figure GT6 on a next...
I'm pretty happy I went on a bit of a freeze period on buying anything prior to E3. I had been thinking of picking up a few of these games on the cheap, and now I'll be able to get them "for free". I'm gonna end up d/l'ing LBP2, SR2, R+C and JC2, which would've ran me $80 on Amazon if I had bought them. Instead, I can download em, as well as play other various games throughout the rest of the next 12 months.
@myswordisheavenly - they're "rentals" in the sense that you can only access them so long as you are subscribed, but that doesn't really bother me.
@siren30 - considering being able to play ps1 titles on the vita has been one of the features the majority of people on this site have been clamoring for, yes. being able to have a majority of FF games on one portable system is pretty awesome.
no, 360/ps3/pc
"Second. Our competitors can say what they want about some super long cycle, but let's see what their behaviours are."
This seems like a pointless thing to say, Sony has a track record of supporting consoles for the long run and MS appears to be dedicated to doing the same with the 360 this generation.
