When PS2 came out, it was $300. Dreamcast was $150. Yet, the PS2 outsold the Dreamcast even at twice the price. PS2 didn't need price cuts to outsell the competition. If people really perferred the PS3's games over the 360's, it would outsell the 360 regardless of price - history has proved that.
It seems like PS3 fanboys are more worried about MS's 2009 lineup that 360 owners are. Just look at how many of the usual suspects have posted here, and the number of agrees they have.
It's pretty good for a single week, considering March 1-7 is the first full week of Killzone 2 being on the market.
So, if NPD reports roughly the same numbers as VGChartz, that will end the talk about VGChartz being unreliable and making up numbers, right? Somehow, I doubt it.

The article says "since launch", which means 2007-present. It is not a reflection of online players AT launch. It's not like the game is out of print either. Anyone who bought a PS3 or 360 between 2007 and today can buy the game and play online.

Forza 2 - Many bad reviews and mediocre sales? Exactly where are you getting your information from? I see lots of 90's, and nothing lower than 80,and since when is 2 1/2 million copies sold considered "mediocre"?

"About", "generally", and "approximately" (taken directly from the article) regarding the 50/50 comment are hardly strong enough terms to draw any conclusions about either console.
@4.6 - The current generation is not comparable to the PS2/Xbox generation. PS2 overtook Dreamcast in it's first year, and was never behind Xbox of Gamecube. Don't forget, PS2 was $299, Dreamcast was $149 when PS2 launched. Last generation, people had no problem paying double for PS2. PS2 outsold all competitors, without any price cut, from day one. That is not the case now. PS3 is in it's third year, and is still trailing 2 competitors. That NEVER happened with PS1 or PS2.
All hardware manufacturers report "shipped" numbers. It is up to groups like NPD to track sales at individual retailers and report actual "sold" numbers.
"Shipped" numbers are units shipped to retail outlets. This is universally accepted retail terminology. After all, weren't Sony fanboys accusing MS of "shipping" thousands of extra consoles to retailers last year in order to pad their numbers? Supposedly, these consoles would sit in retailers back rooms, and MS would add them to their numbers.

EA has made an art form out of making commercials that show no actual gameplay footage. They have been doing it since the PS1 days.
JokesOnYou got it exactly right - in order to be duped, a buyer would have to fail to read any online review, online blog, print review, or print article about Halo Wars. They would also have to have not played the demo. Then finally, in this economy, they would drop $60 on a game without ever looking at the box.
What I really disagree with are comments like "Forza is a distant second to GT5", when GT5 won't even be out for at least 12-18 months, and Forza 2 has been out since 2007.
Also, I don't expect to one day get Gran Turismo on 360 - Forza has already proven to be an equally excellent franchise.
If all you care about is graphics, GT5 Prologue is definitely for you. Forza 2 has 35 tracks, 300 cars, runs at 60fps, and is a very good looking game. Not to mention, it's been out since 2007, and is the only current generation full driving sim. GT5P has 6 tracks and 70+ cars. The full version of GT5 doesn't even have a release date.

Forza 2 has a higher metascore than GT5 prologue. It has a higher metascore than the last full GT release (GT4), as does Forza 1. You have to go all the way back to 2001 to find a Gran Turismo game that rates higher than Forza 1 or 2.
