The 360 will last 10 years. See my comment at 4.5.
@4.3
The original Xbox was supported for 7 years - it came out in 2001, and its last game came out in 2008 (Madden 09). Considering the 360 is FAR ahead of the original's sales in less time, and that there is no new console on the horizon, I have no doubt that the 360 will be a 10 year system.

Since when does a console have to keep up with one behind it?
I should have worded it:
"It's not MS's fault that Sony wasn't ready to launch at the same time"
"Take away the head start"?
You cant take it away - like it or not it already happened. It's not MS fault that they launched a year sooner.
@2.3
Look at your comments - you're the hater!
Why are you so insecure about PS3 that you have to make statements like that - isn't PS3 good enough to stand on it's own merits? Judging from your comments, as well as some other comments about this article, apparently not.

@Blademask
Sony doesn't pay for exclusive content?
I guess Polyphony, Media Molecule, Guerilla Games, and other exclusive PS3 developers just make PS3 games for free out of the goodness of their hearts.
Unless a game is made by Sony itself, MS itself, or Nintendo itself, someone gets paid for exclusivity.
A better way to judge a game's Metacritic rating is to do what they do in the Olympics - drop the highest and lowest scores, and average the rest. There are always biased judges in olympic gymnastics and figure skating events, and by eliminating the highest and lowest scores, a judge who is biased for or against someone won't be able to affect their overall score.
In the case of Metacritic, with so many scores, it would probably make sense to drop the 5 highest and lowest scor...
"massive price drop in September."
$50-$100 price drop in 3 years is hardly "massive".
Exactly - PS3 simply does not have enough time to catch 360 this generation. To make up a 6-8 million console deficit (we'll call it 7 million) in just one years time, PS3 would have to outsell 360 by over 500,000 per month. No console even sells 500,000 per month, let alone outsell the competition by that much. Plus, 360 sales show no signs of slowing down. Even if PS3 gets close in 2 years, the 360 will be 6 years old by then, and this generation will be nearly over.

The Xbox 360 will last at least 8 years, probably 10, and here is why:
The original Xbox was produced for 4 years (2001-2005), and sold around 22-25 million consoles. Its last game was released in 2008 (Madden 09), giving it 7 years of game support - at least by third parties. The 360 has sold around 28 million in a years less time, and there has been no mention of a new console in development, meaning the 360 will stay in production for at least 6 years. Plus, the 360 has s...
There is no rhyme or reason as to why certain consoles sell well in some countries but not others. Here are some examples:
PC Engine (TurboGrafx 16) was bigger in Japan than the original NES, yet failed to catch on in the U.S.
Sega Genesis, #1 in the US for 4 years, was never popular in Japan. As a matter of fact, several of Sega's biggest titles were actually produced for the PC Engine in Japan.
Sega Master System was very popular in Europe and ...
Funny how Sony fanboys use Game Informer scores to put down a 360 exclusive. Isn't GI biased and unreliable because it gave a certain PS3 exclusive "only" an 8.75? Yet, when it serves their needs, GI is suddenly the game review bible.
As for me, I am going to do something CRAZY - I will actually wait until the game is released and I play it fully before I form my opinion.
Last time I checked, 28,000,000 was more than 20,000,000, regardless of how you try to spin it. You are saying PS3 sells 700,000 more per year, right? By your math, if PS3 continues selling 700,000 more per year than 360, then it will take 10-12 years for PS3 to catch up. Even if PS3 were to triple it's per-year sales difference over 360, then, again by your math, it would still take around 4 years just to catch up.
There is nothing wrong with defending your favorite console. Fanboys take it too far though. If you love Killzone 2, great. But when someone says that it is the "best game ever", before it is even released, that is taking things too far. Trolling articles about a console that you don't even own in order to talk nonsense about a competing game, or worse, make fun a particular person's name, is also crossing the line. As is anonymously accusing any media outlet of conspiracy if t...
MS will not move on unless PS3 not only catches up to 360 in sales, but passes it by a large margin. That will not happen anytime soon, if at all, because 360 continues to increase its lead every month.
Do the math - if 360 has sold 6-8 million more units than PS3, how much would PS3 have to outsell 360 by each month just to pull into a tie? Even if PS3 could outsell 360 by 250,000 a month, EVERY single month (which is nearly impossible), it would still take 2 years just to t...
ColecoVision was Awesome!
The next generation of consoles WILL be nearly identical. The differences in games between this generation and last is much smaller than it was from PS1/N64 to PS2/XBOX/Gamecube, and it will be even smaller between this generation and next. It's called the law of diminishing returns.
If Nintendo wants to release Wii 2 in 2011, they can use 5 year old technology. This will mean PS3 quality graphics running at 1080p high definition. Using 5 year old technology will allow Nint...
In order for MS to be in trouble, PS3 would have to not only catch up to 360, but pass it by a large margin, and that will just not happen anytime soon. If 360 is 7 million ahead, PS3 would have to outsell the 360 by about 300,000 per month, EVERY month, for 2 years - just to TIE. Ps3 doesn't even sell 300,000 per month, let alone outsell 360 by that much.
Your comments are all about trying to predict the future:
"MS COULD be in trouble"
"Just wai...
