"What?? we had no idea about Splinter Cell? No Idea about Alan Wake? No Idea about Forza 3 and Crackdown 2?"
Just because we knew they were coming doesn't diminish their impact - at least we saw new gameplay footage that had not been seen before.
How many "games we know are coming" will be showcased at Sony's conference? God of War 3, Gran Turismo 5, Uncharted 2, Ratchet & Clank, Heavy Rain, MAG, etc. Are those games going to be downplay...
It's probably a contractual requirement to have all four members represented at any Beatles announcement. George Harrison's widow was there too.
It will be interesting to see the reaction to Sony's games in light of some of the comments made about MS's - particulary downplaying announcements of games "we knew were coming anyways".
God of War 3, Gran Turismo 5, Uncharted 2, Ratchet & Clank - we all know those are coming - will they also be downplayed like MS's sequels are being downplayed here? Somehow, I doubt it.
18 tracks and 65 cars is quite a bit smaller than the 35 tracks and 300+ cars I'm used to on Forza 2, not to mention the promise of 100 tracks and 400 cars for Forza 3. But, if NFS: Shift delivers a good, arcade style racing experience, the shortage of variety will be tolerable. If it tries to compete with Forza 3 and GT5 in the sim category, it will probably come up well short.
I'm still waiting for a sequel to last generation's best arcade racer - the PS2 version of NFS: Ho...

So, now a sales increase of 25% year over year is "plateauing"? That's called GROWTH, no matter how you try to spin it.
@1.21
Your "average annual sales" arguement is misleading. In 2008, Both 360 and PS3 sold around 10.5 million consoles each - meaning 360 had a pretty large leap from the 8.7 million average you mention. So for in 2009, 360 sales are up 20-25% over 2008, while PS3 sales are down compared to last year. 360 is heading in one direction and PS3 is heading in another. Maybe PS3 did outsell 360 in 2007, and that gave PS3 it's higher overall "annual" average. ...
Bill Clinton was elected twice, and Barack Obama was recently elected. What's your point? What was your feeling about America's majority after those elections?

"The $199 360 has been outsold by the Wii by almost 2:1 in unit sales."
Where are your numbers coming from? Please post a link to where you found the 360's sales broken down by individual SKU, because I've never seen one. 360 has a $199, $299, and $399 SKU, and Amazon.com usually shows the $299 Pro as the most popular version. Otherwise, you just come off as a bitter PS3 fanboy trying desperately to distort the truth.
Your 2:1 &quo...
This is the main reason that exclusives are becoming fewer are far between. How can developers make a profit if they limit their potential audience to just owners of one console? MS and Sony can subsidize their exclusive developers for now, but at what point will it simply become too expensive to pay to keep a game or franchise exclusive?
10-15 years ago, in the PS1/Saturn/N64 era, nearly all games were exclusive - maybe 10-15% were multi-platform. That number increased to c...
"I liked Lair and Haze. They are not AAA but they are worth a play."
Although I haven't played either, I agree with you 100 % (with the statement that "lesser" games are still worth playing).
There are far too many so-called "gamers" who think that a game is not worth playing if it isn't a certain # of GB's, or if the graphics don't push new boundaries, or if it doesn't rate over 90, or if it doesn't sell enough. How fun a game is i...

@GWAVE
You and many other PS3 fanboys conveniently forget that MS also announced Gears of War 2 and Fable 2 last year - two of 2008's most popular and highly reviewed games.
"PorcelainGod, whats up with the out of nowhere dreamcast hate?"
No point in even trying to reason with a delusional fanboy like him and others here. Their logic (or complete lack of it) dictates that "if it's not for a Sony console, it sucks". He's probably never even played a Dreamcast.
Saberedge - you make excellent points in a non-fanboyish manner.

Please post a link to that so-called "interview" you mention. I'd be willing to bet that the words "nightmare", "retarded", and "massively weaker" are nowhere to be found. Who's lying? I really hope you're not trying to pass off your personal opinions as having been said by RS, because that is what your post implies.
EDIT: If the 360 hardware is so inferior, as is your opinion, then the 360 version should have end...
Proper, standardized controls are a necessity for gaming, and unless the iphone is redesigned with better gaming controls, it will always rank behind PSP and DS for portable gaming.
"MS could really learn something from Sony this gen about new and fresh IP's."
Sony's upcoming lineup has lots of sequels, just like 360's. Sony's top three upcoming games are God of War 3, Uncharted 2, and Gran Turismo 5 - all sequels. Both also have some promising new IP's coming up. However, proven franchises are where the real money is, and Sony and MS know it. Neither company has a monopoly on fresh ideas.
"So much money thrown so hard at 3rd parties they don't remember the PS3 is their main source of income this generation."
The only developers that I recall that have reported higher PS3 than 360 revenues are Take-two, EA, Konami, and Ubisoft. EA and Take-two do not produce 360 exclusives. Ubisoft and Konami's biggest exclusives are for PS3 (Haze & MGS4).
Which third parties are you referring to? And do you think that Konami and Ubisoft make their...
Not on N4G. A certain game recently was called such things as "best game ever", and "game of the year" well over a month before it's release. Just read some threads about upcoming hyped exclusives and you will see that actually playing a game is not a prerequisite for deeming it to be "AAA" quality.
I'm a Beatles fan - I'm well aware of the history. There was no reason for her to be there, yet she was. So, like I said, it must be a contractual thing that MS had nothing to do with.
