I get what steve30x's point and I agree to some degree with saint_seya.

Whenever a PC vs console debate/discussion erupts, "our consoles have more exclusives" will always be the go to counter-argument the console fans use. So having even half of the titles listed by the article ported to the consoles doesn't bode well for the PC. Exclusivity is one of strong points of consoles so why should I rejoice when some exclusivity are taken away from the PC?

Nvidia is talking about those games in general term (since GTA series tend to be released late on the PC)and doesn't seem to predict anything specific. It wasn't even a public announcement, a challenge to AMD or some interview (as this article suggested). It was none of that. It was something said by a PR guy to investors during a meeting that was uncovered by some other gaming site. Those words were never meant for us gamers, they were for the investors.

You're g...

@awi

So it's bad for nvidia to "bribe" those game companies for early access to their games thus leaving AMD lagging behind in optimization.

What about when next gen console comes around and AMD gets early access to ALL PC ports thus leaving nvidia lagging behind in optimization?

Should we happy about that too?

It's easy : those who doesn't see the need to extend their e-penis, just don't buy. Those who do will buy it.

I'm being negative because of what happened when the PS3 and 360 came out. Consoles that can do what the PC does for a fraction of the price. Game devs jumped ship in droves.

Just look at this article alone. It's basically telling people with low end PC users to switch to the PS4. How is that good for the PC? Having a similar architecture and better porting doesn't mean the PC will see a lot of games coming its way. We assumed it will but we don't really know ...

LOL. After weeks of news and noise about how wonderful and game changing GDDR5 will be for the next gen consoles, suddenly ReRam appeared to rain on the party.

4699d ago 1 agree1 disagreeView comment

If you're looking at gamers then perhaps it's true that developers are seemingly wasting resources on a small crowd supporting this kind of ram. BUT...the developers would be also the same group of people who will be buying this tech since they do need good hardware to make games with.

Let's not forget that the small crowd (if you're talking about PC gamers that is) is also responsible in keeping the GDDR5 alive and developed for years before the next gen cons...

So....who still thinks the next gen consoles ripping off more PC hardware, the very architecture no less, will have a beneficial side effect for the PC? Did Cerny actually say PC ports will easier and better or was it the assumptions of journalists on that first announcement?

All I hear now is that it'll be easier to for indie devs to make games for the PS4. Other PC games can be easily port to the PS4 and now it's a better option for those with low end PCs. Blizzard ...

Nvidia knew what they are getting into and probably well aware of the risks of making new consoles in a saturated market especially they don't have a long established partnership with a lot of game developers. Just look at their target: Android games and local streaming of PC games. They are not forcing anyone to make games for their console that actually can cater both Android and PC games. They don't have have to beg for developers to make games for the Shield because any Android ga...

It's probably because MS will be giving the AAA titles exclusively for X Box One while the PC will only be given tablet-like games and F2Ps.

@despair
Well, get ready then. It has quieted down a bit but once the next gen consoles are out, there will tons of such arguments surging all over again. Then, the exclusive console titles with prettier graphic using AMD exclusive tech would appear and pour oil into the heated debate.

Personally, I'm not sure whether I want to visit any gaming sites during that period.

Yes, if you shut yourself from the rest of the world.

No, if you know how to take a break now and then.

Thanks to the recent Steam Sale, I bought Tomb Raider. I didn't expect it to be quite engrossing. I've bought Tomb Raider Underworld from another Steam Sale a couple of years back and so far I haven't even completed the second level. With the new one...exploring an island is awesome! Haven't stopped playing since.

Thanks to the discounted Tomb Raider I bought off the Steam Sale, I'll be buying it's sequel when it comes out (no more waiting for sales). ...

It's Wargaming. The guys who made World of Tanks and the upcoming World of Other War Machines which are all F2Ps.

So, there is a danger that we might be seeing an F2P only Total Annihilation.

When the PS4 was first announced, they hinted at better game development process due to the shared architecture. EVERYONE believed...hoped that it'll mean better ports and games for the PC. For a brief moment in time, PC gamers and console gamers seem to have chance of getting along.

Now...it's not the case. I didn't jump into the "similar architecture will benefit ALL gamers" bandwagon since I've always feel there's going to be catch to it.

Actually, it's hardly surprising because we've seen this argument among fans and Cerny is just rephrasing/recycling their words for next gen PR. It's the same old thing that console fans have been screaming about for years : a never changing platform that offers developers a chance to optimize their games on a stable, unified architecture vs a PC platform that presents "a million" hardware configurations. It is funny though that the consoles need to be a PC in order to b...

Nice list. Some are trivial, some are good points.

I do agree with the inappropriate ammo placement. Like one of the early missions in Deus Ex : Human Revolutions where your character is infiltrating a factory. There are a lot of cues to give the sense that there are people with family who worked there and yet I keep finding ammo clips and grenades in lockers and drawers (oddly enough no gun at all). It's natural to find ammo and weapons in military bases but not in a civ...

Settle down, there.

I used to be in the same camp who jeered at the MMO saturation in PC gaming but not anymore. I'm still not big a fan of MMOs but I do appreciate their existence and importance to PC gaming. 8 million players still subscribing to an 11 years old WoW? 500,000 subscribers for EVE Online and World of Tanks each? $14 million Kickstarter funding for Star Citizen that will have a persistent online playing area? No one has the right to say they are missing ou...

You're right about one thing: PC gaming won't kill consoles. All the PC did is provide the necessary hardware for next gen and PC gamers helped the developers to fine tune their DX11 skills before the consoles are out. Consoles and PC exist thanks to each other.

It's the mobile devices, smartphones and tablets, that are threatening the consoles. Mobiles already made PC sales look sad so next gen consoles are in for a rough ride.
