Have any of you read the actual Steam page about this controller?

About how the controller being designed for multiple types of games, not just FPSes? How it is also designed to bring RTS and simulation games to the living room? The article itself talked to devs from different genres.

And about it's not forced onto PC gamers? You can still use other peripherals for the SteamOS/Box. The controller even has a legacy mode so that older games will recognize i...

Shhh....they are tunnel visioned atm. They only see an ugly clumsy device that defied their expectations and completely forget the open nature of the whole next gen Steam Universe. They think its Windows 8 all over again where a company forces you to use a particular type UI (Metro/Modern) over the older tried and tested one.

@Heartnet

Microsoft was a software only company. And then it made the X Box. Now it's has its own line of mobile devices.

Wow. Steam OS, Machines and Controller are designed to break the PC away from MS and you only will buy this only if it comes to the X1?

So PS Vita didn't steal the track pad ideas from those used on laptops, then?

"Valve is doing bad strategy for keeping this secret and not shwoing it to the public to get their feedback, a last minute change won't be possible then. "

They are doing that now. This is a not final product. That's why they announced and showed their devices this week and launched a beta programme for testers to test and give feedbacks later on.

"4. Only two trigger buttons, PS4 and Xbone have 4".

Strange. In the picture I can see that there are four separate functions around the triggers which might indicate four triggers/buttons (the top two are rather small). Also there are two extra buttons at the back if you miss the missing two triggers/shoulder buttons.

Furthermore it's designed to be recognized as a keyboard/mouse when connected so it wouldn't be a problem if a PS4/XB1 game ...

A controller with touch integration loaded with PC features(e.g. the quick save/load options and open customization). And it is designed to play RTSes too...

Very interesting indeed.

NO! Steam Box does not validated MS's XBOne approach. Valve wants to expand PC gaming to the living room but it doesn't drop traditional desktop PC gaming. Desktop gaming and living room gaming is part of the new Steam initiative. Not one is left out.

On the other hand MS stopped focusing on PC gaming when they rolled out the X Box 360. PC developers were disbanded, PC titles were cancelled, buried or turned into console exclusive (Alan Wake is the perfect example)an...

Such bold claims are meaningless when your rival is hard at work making a successor that will beat their older product your are trying to beat.

I had two AMD cards but somehow I kept going back to Nvidia.

I guess that's what the gaming world needs to do: stop lumping gamers, of any platform, to ONE particular group. There were times when I nearly went out and buy a high end card (not because I sorely need it but because...well, I was bored) but I wanted to see how far my 570 can go with the latest games.

I'm the opposite of the hardcore PC gamers because I want developers to support PC hardware that is lower specced than usual. I know it's hard to do so on a platfo...

As if Valve want to piss off one half of PC gamers (perhaps the 2/3 of PC gamers if we remember that Intel is also AMD's competition- I'm bad at math).

My preference is the PC and yet I'm still using the same GTX570 that I bought a couple of years ago. When I exit a game, there's so much other stuff I can do with a PC. I don't have to go to another device to go online, then to another device to edit some pictures or pick up another device to watch some Youtube videos. Not only that I don't have to wait for another generation of PC that finally can sync to my touch screen devices in order to be able to type something.

When was the last time we see an article about PC gaming receive this many comments?

Dual boot for now since I still have old games that I like to play now and then. As for the future, this announcement open up a new option for me to consider besides Windows 8 when looking to upgrade. I wonder if this will be the point when I finally stopped using Windows for my PC gaming fix (I have been PC gaming since Win 98SE).

Same here. I haven't encountered any major problems with it although I haven't played it very long (just got to the little town). I am annoyed that it doesn't have a comprehensive graphical controls in the options menu. As far as I can tell the min-ultra graphic settings simply control the quality of shadows. There's a significant frame rate drop at night time.

I did see a zombie climbed a 10 foot wall to get to me even though it was climbing at the edge of t...

@US8F I was one of those people who shunned such expensive toys thanks to the power of my desktop. Then I moved to a work place that still require you to use boats to get to and stay there for the rest of the week. After two years lugging around my PC over the weekends, I decided to get a gaming laptop.

It was worth it. Granted that there are games that required me to turn off a lot of effects but I still get a shinier experience and smoother FPS from what I've seen on m...

@5h4h4b

Actually there is some harm in bringing it to a bigger audience. There's a reason why Sony and MS held on their exclusive titles so fiercely because they know the harm it will to do their consoles by sharing them.

I know a lot of PC gamers would like to play the Gears of War, Halo, Kill Zones and Uncharted series on the PC but I doubt we'll be seeing that day anytime soon. F2P was exclusively on the PC and mobiles for years and what happened w...

Vita was stumbling about. Near death until Sony bring out PS4 and Vita's connection to it.

Vita needs the PS4 to stay alive. It can't stand on its own when its predecessor didn't even need the PS3 to be successful. WiiU...what happened to that one?

The PC was the lead platform (who are we kidding here?) and they left it in the cold so that they can reap a huge wad from the console sales.

Which would also worry me about the actual PC release. If they did that to boost sales for the current gen consoles then wouldn't that mean they will be doing the same for next gen. Instead of waiting for the PC version months after the current consoles, there is a big chance that the PC version will be pushed ever further to give w...

If we look carefully at some modern shooters, especially their multiplayer modes, trench warfare makes up a huge part of their structure. We call them corridors but their function is just like trenches - tight, often linear spaces/paths where armed forces are funneled into each other.

BF3's Metro map is a shining example of the trench mentality. It has tons of machine guns mowing down people at choke points, snipers, gas attacks, infantry rushes, strategic point captures...
