What did you say? Hypocrisy?
Steam is offering something that is new to the PC gaming world so it's only natural that a lot of people are excited over it. The product is out yet but I'm sure the fans would love it to deliver on its promised potentials. Of course everyone want to out do other controllers, just like how console fans are want their consoles to out do PCs.
Criticism and doubts are okay if it help the overall su...
So I guess MS is a master of console when it first rolled out the X Box after years of experience in...oh, wait...MS was just some software maker before it got into console gaming. Their first console even has a huge controller that required a full revision.
Competition between consoles and Steambox is unavoidable and necessary although it might get ugly at times(mostly between fan boys). The consoles won't be this advanced if they weren't any competition between the ...
From what I've read on the Steam Page about Steam Machines is these are the first prototypes. Other types of machines with lower and much more wallet friendly setup will come later on.
It's not really that hard to understand : they are just PCs that are following a set of hardware requirements to ensure consistency. Console fans always said that one of the main reason they don't go into PC gaming is due to the troublesome "million hardware configurations.&quo...
Creativity is not limited to where you live or race.
In an interview (while standing in front of a giant Titan statue), one of the Titanfall staff said how he and his friends used to kit bash model kits together to make the ones they want and that passion is transferred to their game.
"The game will be released as a "premium edition" for the PS3 and PC later this month."
Later this month? Talk about little to no advertising. It's like...Microsoft doesn't want to be involved or acknowledged with the PC version of Alan Wake.
Still, releasing it for the PC at a later date is not that surprising anymore. Welcomed, in fact. King of Fighters XIII, Mortal Kombat, Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z, Metal Gear Revengeance and now, ...
"With consoles, developers always know what hardware they can expect,"
That's what Valve is trying to achieve with its Steam Universe initiative for the PC. Instead of going to one configuration like consoles, its tackling the problem through a series of presets but still give consumers and developers room to expand on it. If your lowest configuration can play games at a decent performance level then third party machines or DIY PCs set above that would be able t...
I've been wondering about those XYBA buttons. Perhaps those are their default positions and perhaps they won't be called the XYBA buttons on the final product.
Is it possible that they are positioned to the sides is actually a "cheeky" way for Steam to tell everyone they are "putting aside" the traditional 360 controller schemes (since the very reason for the Steam Universe is Windows 8).
I used to think the same way but SteamOS says hello.
Valve is trying to get game makers to make games for the PC with its Steam Initiative so this time around I'm actually excited over some new graphic cards announcement.
Steam Machines are PCs with SteamOS and gaming in mind. They are still ordinary PCs where you can build your own or buy from a select setups(not just high powered ones) approved by Valve which you can also upgrade later on. The ones we're talking about are just the first wave of prototypes while other configurations will be available later on.
Think of them as industry wide standard for PC makers and game developers to follow to ensure a much more pleasant experience for ...
It is a pretty weak PSU and traditionally one would expect it to be underwhelming especially with the Titans. They are beta machines and Valve allow the beta testers to upgrade at their own discretion.
Valve could either be wrong about the 450W power or...that is just the most what the SteamOS-based games actually needs. Everyone view this from the traditional Windows based perceptions but how about taking in SteamOS into consideration?
A lot of posters here asked just who is Valve aiming this product. Reading the page they are just the FIRST prototypes and Valve decided to do something special with the spec. It is also mentioned that other Steam Machines that will be "carefully designed to cost less, or to be tiny, or super quiet."
So much tunnel vision that blurs everyone to the overall big picture. Just like the controller, these 300 Machines are the flagship Steam products. Just like controller...
Just look at how many times people have asked Rockstar when is the PC version of GTAV will be released.
"Half Life 3 won’t meet your expectations."
THAT'S IT?! That sums up the whole purpose of that article to exist.
That is all what the whole article is trying to tell us. No justification, reasons why it will suck, no first hand account, sneak peak or even nit picking rumors. Just an article telling readers to stop speculating and hyping because it will not meet our expectations. That's about it.
They want to quickly dig themselves out of hole they've been digging all those years(year after year of modern military setting) while trying to avoid getting future titles being the default fall guy for real life shootings.
Several years ago courting controversy would play nicely into Activision's hand but now its far too risky when shootings seems to have a season of its own in real life. Not to mention that stiff competitions are popping out in droves for next gen...
"This is good news for Valve, it shows they are definitely on the right track, however, they still have some work to do."
That's another interesting sentence that everyone should take note of. The controller is not even a final product. Valve is still preparing a beta phase for the Steam Machines and Controllers. The developers were invited to try it out because they would be the first to use it for future game development. Their early impressions, positive or n...
You could go to the Steam page to read up on their design decisions...it's hard not to notice - the link is slapped on the top banner of the Steam Store.
He's a wizard from the future. So he should know.
How can Valve be fixing something that isn't broke when it is actually offering us something new?
Valve isn't forcing us to use the Steam controller like how Windows 8 is blatantly designed to make users depended on touch UI. The traditional Sony and 360 controllers will always be around and still be usable for the PC/Steam Machines. And for the die hard PC gamers, the KBM is still part of the Steam experience.
What other alternatives do we PC gamers have?
MS? The guys who left the PC when their shiny box came out and buried some of the classic PC devs while doing so.
Linux? They don't have much power among the tech titans with billions in their banks.
PCGA? All they do is release stats and charts.
Valve was the only one who stayed with the PC when the 360 came out and a lot of people wished the PC to be dead. Valve is making i...

"All MS has to do is create a profile option for gaming, which minimizes many of the unnecessary background processes, for them to win back the hearts of gamers. "
That's the problem! Microsoft have been in the PC business longer than Valve and yet with every iteration of Windows they getting farther and farther away from PC gaming. You praised Windows 8 for being a better gaming OS and yet you wished that MS to release a gaming ...
