I think it'll be harder for first party developers to port AAA games to the PC with next gen. Not because of the hardware but because of the title exclusivity. Plus Windows 8 is designed more towards the mobile gaming sector instread of AAA PC gaming (the touch interface is pretty much useless when you are several feet away from the monitor/HDTV).

Alan Wake was supposed to be a Vista launch title but then it became a 360 exclusive. It took years before it finally made it&...

They need the X-Box to handle the gaming portion of their grand plan. MS needs the PC, specifically Windows, to handle non-gaming portion so they can't just abandon it and let others, especially competitors, fill in the gap. They did that with 360 and left PC gaming floundering to die when suddenly Valve appeared with Steam.

Imagine the old saying "it's much greener on the other side of the fence" but put MS there standing on the greener side(console) while ...

I guess the tens of millions of MMO and F2P players doesn't count as gamers then?

"I'm still at the 'What the hell is that thing? I'd better Google it!' stages of research. "

Ah, the research stage. It's a hard process and yet satisfying. You can learn a lot of the stuff that make you understand more of the thing you're building.

Not really. It's a ploy to get a lot of developers to make a lot of stuff, apps in particular, for the Kinect before the X1 is out. MS have game devs to dabble with the Kinect but they still need a lot of other non-gaming developers to make apps for the non-gaming features of the X1.

Over a year ago everyone laughed at DX11 in PC gaming for being pitiful (not many games/game dev using it). Then after BF3 and early teases of next gen consoles suddenly everyone's experi...

"fast plug in and play (well not anymore...)"

LOL. It's great that argument will become invalid soon.

So how do console fans get out of this one? It's one of the features/argument that console fans loved to use against PC gaming.

Consoles are better than PCs because "no need to install you game/no more hours of installing games/just put in DVD and play..." Installing your games into your console is mandatory now. ...

NO. The micro-transaction heavy nature of mobile games will always make them unappealing to me.

I have my Android phone for a year now and so far I've downloaded around ten games. My favorite is Sudoku Fun because it doesn't ask for my credit card when I played with it.

"next-gen consoles will reign over PCs for a while..." True.

The PS4's hardware is made primarily by AMD. So if they finally solved the old PC bottlenecks (using PC components at that) so wouldn't that mean they might also release a PC version soon after? I do believe AMD would want to release such technology to it's PC line soon after the console launch to get a head start from Intel and Nvidia.

It's great that AMD has dominated bot...

There were a lot of modders and zero DLCs before current gen consoles came up with it. So did the gaming world crash into chaos because the developers didn't churn out DLCs after DLCs back then?

No. They release these things called Expansion Packs every now and then to keep their games fresh. Modding is just part of the gaming world (PC at least) and everyone understand their limitations. Mods and official extra content found a way to co-exist long before DLCs while curr...

Intel nearly did became a third competitor in the discrete graphic cards war. It's grand plan was to put hundreds of low power, cheap to make chips (they were going to bring back Pentium 3 for this) in a single card that can do what a single GPU does. It was theorized that such an array can possibly let game makers apply real time ray racing to games.

Then, Intel withdrew from the discrete card war before it even started and continue on making integrated graphic chips.

No, just no.

The article even tried to associate always online DRM with the F2P's supposedly benefit of letting the servers do all the workload so "people with not-so-good computers to play a game that is typically for “core” gamers who own thousand-dollar PCs." Last I heard (from some of the game's own makers no less) the only thing that Simcity's DRM do is monitor the progress of the players and gather information.

It's funny that tablets still need the keyboard to be as useful as a PC. The touch screens were hailed as sure fire killers of PC keyboards and yet we see bluetooth keyboards being churned out for these supposedly keyboardless devices.

The article said something about a new tablet screen that can rise up and give an illusion that you're using an actual keyboard. That's where the PC shines- the ability to incorporate new technology to existing PCs. Morphing screen...

I'm a PC gamer and I'm pretty disappointed with this. You know they can easily bring those control schemes to the PC and yet seeing Blizzard's responses, they won't. They acted as if it's impossible to add a new control scheme for the PC - an extremely modular and versatile platform that you can plug in all manners of control devices.

I guess it's natural, though. They are trying to sell a PC classic to a new, rival demographic and in order to get a s...

From what I've seen in the replies...the both sides (PC and console fans)are still stuck with the old console efficiency vs PC raw power debate.

Yes, console games are designed to a specified limitation hence the notion of efficiency while PC versions are horrible mess of inefficiency.

BUT, wait! Next consoles are designed with a PC architecture. That would mean any console game that is efficiently designed for the platform would also be efficiently comp...

"pc devs working with sony more this time "
"I wouldn't be surprised at seeing many PC only titles heading to the PS4"

Urrgghh...blinding flashbacks back to the time when the PS3 and 360 first appeared and a lot of PC devs (most notable were id and Epic) flocked to the new consoles, leaving PC gaming high and dry. And you guys kept asking why a lot of PC gamers are in a fit with these next gen console announcements especially with MS and Sony&#...

The PS4 is designed based on the PC architecture and it is widely assumed that would help inter platform game development smoother and faster.

So there's no reason for Blizzard to be able to make the control changes for consoles but inexplicably unable to apply those codes back to the PC.

Look at Bastion. An isometric RPG designed by an indie dev and yet I can easily switched between my keyboards and X-box controller whenever I want to. They don't hav...

Consoles and PC affect each other in a lot of ways. The multi platform games environment created by current gen consoles made it possible for medium spec PC to play games nicely. While PC gamers who kept buying PC hardware are lending a hand in developing newer hardware which will eventually find their way into next gen hardware.

There's one thing that is a giant thorn in this symbiotic relationship: exclusivity. Easier, better and faster porting ability between gaming pl...

It did felt a lot like The Witcher 2 but with a lot clunkier combat. It has a very sticky lock-on system (your focus stays with the the previous target for a few second more even though you're looking at another target) that I really hate.

Still it's a pretty decent feat for a small dev and I don't mind if they lifted a lot of things from the Witcher. What new game/movie/TV shows/song that truly is an original piece of work that no one have thought of?

We've seen this before. Remember AMD Athlon and ATI's own kiler card (the one that kicked Nvidia's Geforce 4 and 5 around-I forgot what it's name was)? Intel and Nvidia suffered for years thanks to those hardware. Suffered but not dead.

Then Core 2 and Geforce 8800 appeared and everything turned upside down for AMD and Ati.

Everyone's predicting as if Intel and Nvidia would die immediately when AMD powered consoles come out. Has it been re...
