PC does has relevance in the matter. Next gen hardware are practically PCs. So whatever that is happening to the AMD-based hardware will affect the PC in the long run.
If you think the media are doing a sub par job with next gen, then they would probably be doing the same with the PC. Developers catered to the 360 and PS3 first before they would think about the PC. So if next gen devs are too enslaved with the upscaling capability with next gen hardware then the PC would stil...
Screen resolution that is not possible on the XB1 and PS4, perhaps?
True. "Outdated" doesn't have the same punch as a decade ago. Thanks to the media I used to believe that graphic cards needed to be upgraded every 3-6 months but now the only reason I want to upgrade to a new one is because I wanted too or if my current one is busted.
They spent so much time and resources on the fish AI that they forgot to add a third dimension to the fish model.
"No company that is interested in making money gives away free stuff (unless it makes you buy more of their stuff)"
That and the fact there are disabled stream processors reminded me of a Futurama episode where Bender was overclocked and Mom Corps doesn't want the public to know about such ability.
It's unavoidable for them to claim anti-DRM while selling their product across multiple platforms that will have some sorts of DRM. The consoles itself are DRM boxes with layers of software based DRMs so even by thinking of making a 360 version of TW2 will make them look unprincipled.
They have principles but they know where they can push it and where to hold back.
School holidays has started and a colleague of mine will be re-uniting with her husband after months of separation(different workplaces). Remembering that her husband is a PS fan I told her about the PS4 release this week...suddenly her face beamed in "enlightenment": perhaps that's why he asked her to wait at her home town for a couple of days more because he has some business at a city along his way back home.
A city where you could reach a lot of the 3rd par...
For me its not Mantle that concern me. It's the AMD hardware on next gen consoles that makes me wary. Sure they might have the potential to make multiplatforming better but it also provide a clear advantage for AMD to screw with PC versions for nvidia fans while console fans might not want to get into PC gaming since there are PC-like consoles now. Sony praised the PS4 for being able to convert a PC game faster than before but no one said anything about the reverse.
They are about to send out the 300 prototype Steam Machines that will test out the SteamOS in the real world so it's not surprising that there will be a lot of patches being implemented one after another. Instead of seeing this a big flaw in Valve, all these patches in a relatively short amount of time made me wonder what are they cooking up out there.
Valve played a very long game with Steam so I don't think they would mind the slow adoption of SteamOS considering th...
People like changes if they slowly expose to it. People hate it when you suddenly change something for no apparent reason.
Steam perceived as the bringer of always online DRM and yet it offered offline mode until now. In fact it recently re-confirmed that Offline mode will always be a permanent feature for Steam. In contrast Blizzard is wishing that it implemented always online requirement back before Steam was even conceived.
"Awesome, they are going from PC first and then porting to consoles. This should net some amazing results. "
That's what frustrated PC gamers for years with the PS3 and 360. It's the very thing they've been saying for years only t be accused as entitled elitists. They have to wait and play with games that doesn't push their PC as they should be. It's not mere elitism when they asked for multiplatform games to be made for the PC first and then ada...
My gaming laptop is heavy, expensive and don't perform well compared to my desktop(which itself is made up of medium spec hardware from two years ago) but I'm loving it. It all depends on your needs and expectations and the laptop has ticked all the right points to overcome the age old perceptions toward gaming laptops. I already have a good desktop PC that I won't be replacing/upgrading for a couple of more years so I don't see anything wrong using that spare money to buy a ...
They are still anti-DRM but in the original XB1's case, what choice do they have? They are expanding into new demographics(consoles) so there are some things they have to follow.
Their games are DRM free from GoG.com and yet they are also sold on Steam. It's the one of most successful and acceptable type of DRM with millions of registered user that it's unthinkable if CDP simply stuck to GoG alone.
Why do they keep doing this? It's pretty apparent that mouse smoothing isn't needed in PC gaming, in most cases anyway, while FOV is essential and yet game companies kept "forgetting" to implement them. You could say they don't have the resources or time dedicated to PC versions but there will always be community fixes/mods released hours or days later to address them. If some guys out there can dedicate a few moment of his spare time to find those fixes, what excuses do...
Sure does look cool. Whatever happened to the huge curved monitor several years back? I think it was an Asus(?) surround monitor that became quiet after that.
I hope it'll make a comeback now that Nvidia is focusing on surround gaming while Samsung and LG are rolling out bendable screens(hoping that will bring down the price for a single curved monitor since I'm not a fan of multi-monitor setups).
Right now of course you don't see the point. Give it a couple of years and you'll be lining up to get one.
Hmm...I guess I don't have to add an example of another tech that defies the "what's the point?" question.
That's a pretty standard answer but might the PS4 have an effect on future PC design? AMD has a potential game changer with a GDDR5 only system for the PS4 so it's possible that they might have a similar design for its PC line of hardware- released only if they still couldn't knock off Nvidia even after that next gen exclusivity.
I'm currently playing Metro Last Light. Occasionally, I played it with a 360 controller but I felt it is lacking now since I have Steam Controller filling up my head.
True. If they had this focus and commitment to the PC from early on, say alongside their X-Box gaming crusade , then I might be a loyal follower.
But after years of neglect while receiving the very focus MS is offering now from Valve...please forgive me if I tend to sarcastic about this. I'm actually looking forward in seeing Steam OS so this sudden commitment from MS is having very little effect on me.
Thanks for dissolving all those first party PC stu...
I'm bracing for the "PC is Dead" articles to re-surface. I expect them to pop out in number next year as both next gen consoles receive more games but SteamOS might make things interesting.
