"Perhaps if the effort was tied to a broader call for the cessation of all forms of media violence — films, television, graphic novels, video games, etc. — it would help raise awareness of gun violence and not scapegoat a single form of media."
A scapegoat is needed and by going through this Day of Ceasefire gamers are inadvertently help to solidify gaming as the main cause of the tragedy. I wonder what gun enthusiasts are doing to remember this day?
Everyone's looking at this from a console perspective when we should see it from a PC perspective.
Yes, you could use the Angry Bird example to highlight the importance of software over hardware but you're leaving Android out of the equation. Android don't have any killer apps, that I'm aware of, but like the PC it gradually builds up steam over the years and now it flooded the market. Lumping a ton of games doesn't make it a success but it does keep it al...
So this is MS's game to win back PC gamers?
Another F2P?
Really?
One of the guys who developed The Witcher 2 made a combat rebalance mod for that game. It wasn't an official patch or update but a free mod. Is he disrespecting his own game/company for doing that?
Fans kept Diablo 2 alive for years with mods. DOTA was a mod from Warcraft 3 and now its a successful game on its own. Counterstrike was the same case. Desert Combat mod for BF1942 inspired Dice to move on to the modern battlefield BF2. Skyrim still mak...
Which is I try so hard to avoid buying a lot of open world games or RPGs. Tempting as Skyrim was for being so cheap during the Steam Sale, I have to give it a pass, again. Currently I'm too engrossed with Far Cry 3 so having another, bigger and more complex open world game might make both of them ended up back logged like the others(while X Rebirth got back logged on day one for being such a mess).
Next year though...I shudder thinking what Star Citizen and The Witcher 3 ...
"grindfesting"
You want to do that with every game that comes after another?
I've played the Tomb Raider reboot and currently Far Cry 3 and both games have some sort of grinding(gathering material and hunting) but they are nicely balanced as to not be such a chore. Next gen arrive and suddenly you have to grindfest in every game?
Exactly. 65 million users won't translate into 65 million consoles in the blink of an eye but over years. Just like Steam, the Steam Machines and OS are expected to grow as the years pass. Hence, the lack of commercials.
It's the PC makers who will help spread the Steam Machines and OS so the process will be slow.
Drasil was not that wrong. AMD was struggling behind Nvidia for years even though its cards has better-bang-for-your-buck value before the deal. Really, most of the articles that touched upon the AMD's console deal said how it will save the company.
Nvidia cards maybe expensive but fans still keep buying them over AMD's lower-priced but equally powerful offerings. Nvidia got most of its profits from PC gaming while AMD needed consoles to stay alive.
That's why Valve isn't limiting itself just with Steam Machines. You could still have Windows, your own PC and instal SteamOS in it too. The PC is all about options and Valve takes full advantage of that by offering one, not limiting it to one.
The weirdest part is the fans that seem to be confused who's the target audience is while it's pretty clear that Valve is targeting both the new ones and the old ones. The old ones can still continue with their old ways...
With 65 million registered users, that's a lot of mouths, do they even need TV commercials? Did they show any commercials when they first launched Steam?
Besides they are still testing out the Steam Machines so we won't be seeing kind of commercials until next year.
LucasArt and EA once used the 3000-6000 PC argument to keep Star Wars The Force Unleashed and Battlefield Bad Company away from the PC.
A year later both games came out oh so quietly for the PC.
Great job shooting yourself on the foot there, Malokevi. The competitive nature of constantly playing multiplayer games is showing in your comment. Why don't you sit down and immerse yourself some good singleplayer story.
If it's only one or two games that doesn't have SP mode, that's fine but just look at all those classic PC titles being rebooted back into existences: they are mostly F2Ps or online only.
Age of Empires Online, Mech Warrior...
Those guys said "i don't like all of the hassle of a pc" but now Steam Machines will get rid of that barrier....
Now, they are saying "it doesn't have exclusive titles like consoles."
So what? PC gaming has thrived even without those console exclusives. In fact I'm kinda happy for the PC for not having any exclusives. It make PC gaming feel less arrogant since it's sharing its titles with other platforms while consoles tend...
"Really you couldn't even run a game today on a video card from 10 years ago. "
That is true to some extent but the real advantage of the PC is the opposite of your statement. Any games that you bought 10 years ago are playable on the latest video cards. GoG is a good example.
It's in the name. Consoles have a lot of dedication from developers and fans simply because they are brand names that people could get behind to. PC on the other hand had it hard because no one actually owned it thus making people treat it as second fiddle.
Valve offered the same branding initiative to the PC while maintaining its open architecture. That's one reason why a lot of people are excited over it while a lot of people seem to be mistakenly mix Steam Machines...
It's a satire but I'm not humored or angered by it. It's more like a summary of PC news. For example, the 5,000 people queuing up to buy a new PC doesn't have any punch since traditionally no one does that with a PC. The rest are just facts about PC gaming.
@Hellbringer
I think ATIElite is being sarcastic about the avatar. A better attempt than this article is trying to be.
Diablo 3's gameplay is better on consoles because Blizzard deliberately made it that way. They could've easily implement the same gameplay for the PC version but, no, they decided that it's better have those two separated. There are numerous indie devs who made their RPG games seamlessly switch between controller and KBM while the powerful Blizzard is doing the opposite.
So there's nothing to be proud of console D3's gameplay when it is done so to leave ou...
It feels like the producer's words are actually aimed at potential next gen console buyers while highlighting a PC problem. His words sounds like "you'll need to keep buying bigger and expensive cards for PC versions but with consoles you don't have to."
Hardcore PC gamers will buy a new card but those who doesn't cherish the idea of buying a high end card just for a game might be tempted to gen a next gen system instead.
Had it been a segregated environment like it was back when PS2 is for that crowd while the PC is for that crowd, then I wouldn't be bothered bringing in the PC in any console discussions. What does Geforce 3 has to do with the PS2?
But the X-Box changed it all by bringing PC hardware into the console world. MS practically killed off a lot PC studios in order to funnel more resources into X Box. Then the PS3 and 360 took the thunder away from the PC by adopting a number of...
Considering that millions of pre-built PCs are bought by people who don't build their own rigs so I guess there is a market for Steam Machines.
