" cache is typically several times faster than RAM (since it's on the chip itself)"

See, that's where it's clear you don't really understand what Cache is. Cache is several times faster than main memory _because_ it's small, and is otherwise the same as your main memory. That's why you don't see cache sizes of 512 MB for instance.

To understand why that is, you have to understand that Circuit capacitance is what makes thi...

" There's no such thing as "Too much RAM""

Incorrect for two reasons.
1. Larger RAM reduces processor performance. The whole reason Cache was added to the processor was to cope with the larger size of RAM.
2. Costs - the larger the RAM, the higher the price for the console. (which you mentioned yourself).

The difference becomes noticeable when the RAM is fully used, as cache misses become more likely, and the processor ...

Stoney, the clock speed is a useless statistic to compare RAM speed with. Memory is slower the larger it gets due to power dissipation, hence why processor cache exists in the first place. This difference is mainly noticeable if your computer is running at peak performance. The chart you provided is useless, considering most of the RAM modules aren't active at the time of playing.

There's a lot of technical detail you can read up on, if you're interested. But long...

Correct. High amounts of RAM have an adverse effect on performance.

lol an article about an article about a rumour which isn't true.

By the way, VRAM is Video RAM, not Virtual RAM lol. (Virtual RAM doesn't even exist, closest thing would be Virtual Memory that isn't random access, and that's non quantifiable as it can be as large as the hard-drive if need-be).

If the Ps3's sinking like a WWII battleship and has better years-to-date sales than the 360, then what's the 360 doing?

5018d ago 3 agree1 disagreeView comment

Even revenue seems far fetched.

56000000000/67000000=836 dollars of revenue per console? Unless they're counting games as well, that number doesn't seem right.

Sorry but that's poor logic. The sales that matter are the year to date sales, e.g. the launch dates are lines up and the consoles are compared to each other with the difference in launch removed. This is because until launch (roughly), the company isn't spending any money on producing those units.

Otherwise I could argue that the Ps2 has outsold the Wii, even though the Wii released 5 years later.

The publicity increased exposure of this author to the world. Regardless of Amazon reviews, some people will buy it.

Quote from one of the reviews:
"After hearing all the trouble being caused by it I went about finding a copy outside of amazon and read it over the course of 4 days (on break from college so had plenty of time)."

Chunky, that analogy would be correct if one could choose from one of two Xbox live services, both on which you could play online, and one of which was free.

The paid service in turn would then give people access to the premium features (NFL in the case of TVs, or Cross Game chat in case of XBL).

The analogy is correct as follows:
You buy a new HD TV (Xbox 360), but to actually watch any television (Play online) you have to pay the company you bought ...

I'd say this lawsuit wasn't started with the intention to finish. In fact, I'd say that this author was looking to promote his book. Any publicity is good publicity, and with the media exposure surrounding this lawsuit there's been plenty of publicity...

Midnyt, I have yet to meet a Game Developer who doesn't want to make the best game they can, given the constraints (e.g. movie games tend to be poor due to time constraints).

This is because most people in the industry have a passion for Game Development, as without it you'd have to be crazy to want to work at a Game Company.

Two types of mentality you can have

1. You want to make a good game
2. You're in it for the money

Since you claimed 1) wasn't their mentality, 2) must be true.

It's unlikely Naughty Dog's engine is suitable for external use. Even disregarding that, Naughty Dog can't sustain a support department for it.

That's because those rumours are fake... The same rumours said the Wii-U had a processor 3 months ago that ran at 6GHz - When I read it I couldn't stop laughing for 10 minutes, because that clockspeed is the type of decision a Marketing department would make - not an engineer.

Most devs do... The fact you think they don't shows how poorly you appreciate the sheer scope of developing an interactive, AAA experience.

And no, developers these days are not all about the money. That's their manager's job. Remember that Game Developers could easily land a job at an investment firm and get paid twice of what they get paid in the Game Industry whilst doing only half of the amount of work.

Sony doesn't earn anything on Onlive (remember, Sony earns their money through royalties on Ps3 third party software), so being able to play next-gen games on it doesn't make a difference for the Ps4.

It's also a very different way of playing a game, one which many people don't like due to latency.

10 Years ago kids sacrificed their school work for playing outside. Kids don't care much about school work in general, it only starts to matter when you get older and form goals in your life.

By the way, I swear I've seen this article before on here.

It wouldn't change anything - saying OnLive on Ps3 would add years to its life would be like saying that adding Skype would add years to its life. It's a feature, it is not intended to replace the Playstation game library.

If it's on Ps3 it'll be on Ps4 as well.

Objective-Based Co-Op modes with almost identical descriptions and a name that sounds very similar. So from what we know so far, it sounds exactly like Spec Ops. Again, _sounds_, not _is_.

Munish23 gave a pretty good description of what I think it'll end up to be.
