Especially if they had to scrap that other studio's years worth of work. Now by having to start over, their costs raise dramatically and multi-platform gives a chance to recuperate.
E3 has become about as pointless as watching TV instead of streaming or listening to the radio.
Honestly, aside from a few games, this whole year has sucked for gaming so far. As far as really good AAA games are concerned, Monster Hunter, God of War, SotC are all I can think of.
It still wins the portable market. 3DS was very successful, and you could apply all the same things you said to that as well.
"A sentimental longing or wistful affection for the past, typically for a period or place with happy personal associations."
People born after those periods most likely have no emotional attachment to those machines, and didn't grow up with a Commodore lol. Just because you're older doesn't mean that others don't long for their childhoods as well.
Sony's franchises sell pretty damn well:
Gran Turismo (76 million)
Uncharted (28 million)
Ratchet and Clank (26 million)
God of War (21 million)
Crash Bandicoot (22 million)

He's right; That game is so goddam difficult lol. That game will break a man xD

It's like any other form of media though as well. Film, there are great artistic visions and mindless summer explosion fests. Musical composition masterpieces and radio drivel. Shadow of the Colossus and Madden :P
The Switch has performed far better than Nintendo even expected. They probably had a wait and see attitude concerning Pokemon at first to see if the next mainline game would be for 3DS as well, and probably shifted development over fully to the Switch, if I had to guess. Or they've been going full steam the whole time with a new engine, mechanic, graphics, online, etc, and plan on pulling out the stops with a modern Pokemon experience. If there's ever been a good time to reboot the fr...
As much as I always enjoyed the series, Pokemon is meant for, and will always be marketed towards children. That's how Nintendo makes their money, and they're not suddenly going to make the games more difficult in an attempt to shift their target audience. It's a billion dollar brand, and selling backpacks, lunchboxes, kids' shirts, toys, etc, is how they make their money. Expect the next core game on the Switch to be just as easy as every other Pokemon main game for the last ...
It is definitely for the casual audience, which is a good move regarding business. You can take more time to develop the core series on Switch, which probably is necessary and will be using a new engine, mechanics, etc. Also, you have another holiday sales period for the Switch, giving you a larger userbase when the core game is released, and you attempt to pull GO users into buying the hardware and immersing further into the IP.
E3 is hardly even necessary anymore. Internet made it irrelevant. With streaming and social media, anyone that follows these companies will know about news within an hour of it being released.
I'd sell my Xbox right now if my library wasn't all digital. I picked the wrong horse this gen. Last game I bought was Monster Hunter, and there hasn't been anything even announced yet I plan on buying. Ugh.
It wasn't bad, nowhere near as good as Legend of the Mystical Ninja on SNES though. Love that game.
The story has gotten too convoluted, and relies on expanded lore (comics, animated series, logs on websites, etc) that not many people are interested in. After Halo 6 the series is going to need a complete reboot. Keep it simple. It's like Kingdom Hearts 3: I can guarantee there's probably only about 1,000 people that actually understand the story from every single game. No one's gonna have any idea what's going on in that game when they play it lol.
Realistically: Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask
Mario 64, Paper Mario, Mario Kart and Mario Party 3
Smash 64
Donkey Kong 64
Kirby
Pokemon Snap
Star Fox 64
Maaaybe Bomberman, 1080 or Wave Race.
Why can't it be that it's just not viable to release a new console right now, for many different reasons? In a couple years, the parts that they'll need to manufacture will be cheaper, driving down the price point. The research and analysis that goes into these decisions is huge. You're talking billions of dollars and the future of a brand. Four and five year console life cycles are probably a thing of the past now with rising development costs and diminishing returns on hardw...
Those people should build a PC lol. I think the longer wait for new hardware, the better. You get a more powerful console for cheaper that way. Great games don't come until they're able to be profitable, and you need decent install bases for that to happen, aside from first party launch titles, which are obviously also necessary to sell the system in the beginning as well.
Not only that, they're the creators of Unreal and probably know the engine better than anyone lol.
Being developed by Acquire, who are famous for the Tenchu and Way of the Samurai series. The game is being headed by people who used to work for Square Enix though I believe, and worked on/produced the Bravely series.
