Halo 2 was the first game that introduced modern matchmaking. Consoles functioning as PCs, having hard drives, the original Xbox moved the industry forward in a huge way. Before Halo, PC quality FPS games weren't really considered feasible on consoles, and before the Xbox, PC ports were generally considered out of reach. Doom 3, Morrowind, those games were really big deals back in the day. Sure, Microsoft fumbled this generation, but we can't pretend that the original Xbox and 360 wer...
Anyone else feel that 2018 has kinda sucked for gaming in general? Aside from a few titles, AAA has been lacking this year.
Oh, they realize it; They just don't care about having you as a consumer. The truth is, online microtransactions pull in more money in the gaming industry (yes, we're talking mobile as well, as that's where most of the money is made) than anything else. Also, when you're always connected, you can gather TONS of useful data from players. You guys probably don't think about how these days, even how you play a game, when you play it, who you're playing with, that data is ...
Fallout 4 was awful; I hope they do shelf a traditional one until they're able to use the same engine that the new Elder Scrolls will most likely be using.
It's nice to think that way, but it's more likely that people are going to accept whatever kind of technological future that these companies decide for us. One, they're going to spend hundreds of billions over years developing and pushing it on the world. Two, humans are stupid and prefer convenience and pleasure over anything. Unless a majority of people have an epiphany and decide to work harder, practice altruism and live better lifestyles, companies like Amazon/Google are prob...
It's not just them man. Once Amazon and Google decide to push harder, it's gonna turn the industry on its head. Amazon owns Twitch, Google owns Android. These platforms are very popular, and once the technology is there, very shortly, they're gonna push hard against Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo to create new markets and direct where they go.
Netflix isn't Microsoft, Google or Amazon though. Different beasts. Also, the video game industry is bigger than the movie and music industries now.
So, did they give it a 5/10 because they felt like it should have been $20? A new copy of the original Dark Souls on PS3/360 is still over $20, sans DLC and the upgraded graphics/framerate/effects.
One of the most influential games of the last decade: 5/10
Yeah, great review. I guess I also have the unpopular opinion of Dark Souls 3 being the worst Souls game, if we consider Scholar of the First Sin the true version of 2.
Regardless, the best the best version of th...
"Google, Amazon and Microsoft are all working on cloud-based, streaming video game platforms designed to compete with PlayStation and Xbox, and these could launch before the end of the decade," he wrote. "These services would expand the addressable market by at least 4x and would be available on all screens including TVs, laptops, tablets and smartphones."
Everyone downvoted me to hell when I said this was the future of gaming a few days ago. Good luck to any comp...
That game has been made like a hundred times already lol.
Did you play the game on Deathmarch? Completely changes how you have to approach the combat.
When I bought Witcher 3, I was so impressed with the entire package. Stickers, a map, a thank you note, a keychain, a whole booklet, practically relics in these days lol. I will definitely support anything that CD makes as long as they keep delivering the quality and care that they have.
In the last two years, disc sales have dropped over 24 percent, while streaming services have raised over 30 percent in 2016 alone. Physical media won't be around too much longer, unless it's smaller companies producing it at higher prices for a niche market. Obviously, you can still buy things like vinyl even, but what's that market look like opposed to thirty years ago? It's either a novelty now, or for serious audiophiles.
You could say the same for streaming services for movies and music as well(death of those mediums), but we still all do it. Music industry is doing terribly, DVD and box office sales have plummeted aside from superhero movies. Back when Netflix started streaming, I heard so many people say "That's stupid, why would I want to pay to not own a movie? Internet speeds aren't good enough everywhere for that company to catch on." Look where they are now, worth dozens of billions, ...
I imagine Microsoft might actually roll out Windows as a paid service at one point or another, incorporating all their software and also Gamepass across multiple devices. I'd be surprised if they don't buy a company like Spotify as well so they could include it in the package. Again, this isn't what I want, it's just what companies are going to try to do I'm sure.
Where do you think technology will be in fifteen years then? I'm not saying that I like it, I'm just saying that the future is inevitable. The more advanced tech becomes, the faster more advances come. Unless you're old now, the things we'll see in our lives will be crazy. And don't think for one second that billion dollar companies won't do all they can to control every single aspect of your life, whether you realize it or not.
Elon Musk is literally right now trying to launch over 4,000 satellites into space with latency of less than 25ms to give free internet to the world. I don't think most people realize how far technology is going to go in ten to fifteen years. All cars could be self driving right now if it wasn't for the fact that no one knows how to solve the problem of high unemployment that automation like that would cause. At some point or another, soon, how we live our lives is going to change ver...
You guys might not like it, but it's inevitable. The end of next generation is ten years from now. Consumer technology will be light years ahead of what it is now. In ten years your phone will make an Xbox One X look like a PS1. Big companies are going to push for these services as well, as it gives them more control over how you use their products and basically removes the second hand industry completely. The future of technology is that everything you own will be connected 24/7, AI will...
Soo 2D games suck then? Art direction isn't important? Great to know. You're missing out on decades of gaming history if you ignore everything that's not shiny in 2018. I bet ten years down the line, Octopath will be more visually appealing than most AAA games today due to its fantastic art direction.
Anyone else think this was one of the worst E3s ever for all of the main 3?
