A port is when you take a games code and make it work on another system. There can be changes, and differences if desired or necessary, but in essence, it's the same game, being modified to run on a different hardware. When the creator of the game says that this game has been created from the ground up, people calling it a port is insulting to the amount of work that's been done to create it. He's probably been working on Ultimate for four years since the release of 4. Of course t...
How is a game that's running on a different engine, built from the ground up on that engine, a port? They did not port code from Smash 4 lol, unless you believe Sakurai was lying. You say Splatoon 2 is awesome (and it is), but people were claiming the same thing before it released if you remember, that it was nothing more than a port with a few new items.
You must not be too big on fighting games lol.
That's like saying Street Fighter III was the same game as 2 lol. Unless you guys think Sakurai was lying, the game has been completely built from the bottom using a new engine. It's not like they're going to deviate from the art style that they've chosen for the series.
They scrapped the two years of development that the external studio had done and started over recently. Gonna be a very long time.
They outsourced it, and then realized the two years of work that the studio had done were crap, so they scrapped the entire game and brought it back inhouse. Basically canceled the game and restarted it this year. Gonna be a loong time. Troubling, and similar to the work on FF Versus XIII getting scrapped as well. FFXVII ended up taking ten years...
Their work on the Forza series is truly top notch, but they have some stiff competition when it comes to the combination of programming talent, art design, organization and direction of some of the best and their achievements:
Blizzard (World of Warcraft)
Naughty Dog (Last of Us, Uncharted)
Nintendo (BotW, Mario Odyssey)
CD Projekt Red (Witcher 3)
Valve (Portal 2, Half-Life 2)
Rockstar (GTA V, RDR)
In what world does a Zelda game come out every year? I wanna go live there. The last two new 3D Zelda titles were 6 years apart, Skyward Sword having been released in 2011. Odyssey was the first more open 3D Mario game since Galaxy 2 in 2010, and this will only be the fifth Smash game since 1999. Nintendo may use the Mario IP often, but it's across many different genres of games. RPGs, 2D and 3D platformers, racers, sports, party games.
Here's a list of the IP that Nintendo o...
I can guarantee that more time and effort goes into making a Smash game than has ever been put into a FIFA game. Ever think about what takes to create even just animations for over 60 different characters? The logic involved to make sure the slightest thing doesn't break the game? Fighting games are very complex.
The series has always been titled Super Smash Bros.
Super Smash Bros.
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Couldn't you say the same thing about every Smash game? Or fighting game in general? If anything, this new one seems to be closest to Melee in speed and mechanics.
It is a fighting game lol. Built from the ground up for new hardware. It's like calling Street Fighter V a port of IV. People are ridiculous. The single player modes in Brawl were horrible anyways.
Megaman 11 is coming out soon though, and it looks great. I do miss Dino Crisis and Onimusha though.
Why?
It's not like some of the greatest and most beloved games of all time chose to use a first person perspective or anything... Oh wait. If you consider games like Bioshock or Deus Ex trash, I'd say you have very poor taste in games.
Halo, Left 4 Dead, Portal, Doom, Wolfenstein, Half Life, System Shock, these games are first person and very important in gaming history. Goldeneye, Thief, Perfect Dark, Elder scrolls...
I was incredibly satisfied with how CDPR treated us w...
You know, there are people who would actually agree with that. I can hear it.
"It's my money, I'm a customer, we should get to decide how it is!"
Well, you have one of the fastest selling consoles of all time supporting one of the most popular games of all time, free to the user with handheld portability at a fraction of the price it would cost to have on any phone that would run it well. Software sales and attach rates on the Switch have been incredibly high as well.
I'd say they're working pretty heavily on it if they managed to create an entirely new engine.
What, an iphone X, which is a $1000 device?
What do you mean, Sony is God on N4G lol.
