There's actually a world-wide shortage of computer chips. Most of the companies that produce them can barely keep up with demand every year, and companies like Apple and Samsung put in bids for billions to get their orders first. Also, the screens that the Switch are using are less in demand than the screens normally used for smart phones, so they were having problems with finding companies to manufacture those as well.
Regardless of what people think of the company, they didn't get "Nintendo money" from making bad business decisions.

If a parent lets their small children communicate with strangers in online games, that's their own fault, and personally I think is a very uneducated thing to do. When my nephews come over, I have a separate account on my consoles I use for them with parental restrictions.
