Um... seems like some of the major features of the One are Microsoft's attempt to "solve" the (non-existent) "inconvenience" of having to push a power button or pick up a controller or check your TV guide (or, until recently, putting discs in the console).
Funny how they try to assuage privacy concerns about an always-on net-connected camera and mic by saying you can turn it off (via software)... and then leave out a standalone gaming headset and force you to leave the Kinect on if you want to chat in-game.
It will be interesting to see how many menus/options you need to go through to turn the Kinect off and on. It's not uncommon for companies to bury various privacy settings under layers of menus, making it more inconveni...
It's a stereoscopic camera, so yeah, it is "3d." ToF isn't the only way to determine depth, you know.
Of course, stereoscopic isn't a "significant upgrade" over monoscopic. Mm kay.
"their view of how it would affect humans"
C'mon, TLoU is an awesome game, but cordyceps is just an excuse to make zombies without calling them zombies.
I was amused by the parts where Joel would go through a whole corridor full of shroombies with spores everywhere, and the second he stepped out the door he'd pop off his mask. Personally, I'd be a hundred feet from that door before I considered taking off my mask.
And w...
Who even used the NES light gun for anything except the bundled Duck Hunt?
If anything like that does come down, I'd put my money on a government-engineered bioweapon release.
There are indications that the swine flu was an engineered virus, such as the fact that it included DNA from swine, avian, and human flu strains.
Researchers have admittedly worked on engineering a weaponized pandemic bird flu, as well as race-specific bioweapons.
@360ICE: Actually, I'd say that's more of a point against them than a "promotion." Basically admitted that AMD has better chips, but Intel can consistently crank out more of them.
The comment came from an Intel engineer when I was visiting one of their fabs.
@NarooN: By production methods they meant efficiency/quantity of actual chip production.
Funny, I've had Intel employees tell me different. They said it was Intel's production methods that give them the market edge, not the horsepower of the chips.
But will it balance on top of my TV as nicely as a DS3? Looks like it won't. :-(
"I hope you enjoy your Xbox One, there are some great games coming for it like Titanfall."
Jiminey christmas, if any post ever looked like pure MS PR, this has got to be it. That particular line looks like it was lifted out of a "congratulations on your pre-order" form letter.
If you think a "software off" imparts any real security, you're mistaken. And again: if it can be "turned off," why can't we unplug it?
They're not investing that $700mil just for the Xbone either. It's for an entire data center.
@craig: It's not a question of where the processing is done, it's a question of the data that needs to be transferred. Game streaming is basically YouTube with a controller feed going back to the servers. It's a highly compressed video stream, little more. Using "the cloud" (formerly known as "off-site servers") to process actual game data is entirely different.
It shouldn't be all that surprising.
Streaming Media Players? The PS4 isn't even listed in that category, yet it is a streaming media player.
Digital Media Devices? The PS4 isn't even listed in that category, yet it is a digital media device.
Congratulations, Xbone... winning in categories with no competition.
And anyone with the slightest shred of intellectual honesty knows that it's not so impressive to have the Xbon...
"All games will run on dedicated servers"
You got a source for that? Odd, because Respawn recently said that using the cloud for dedicated servers was an "option" for devs.
There is a 3G Vita. Don't know enough about 3G or 4G to know if 3G is adequate.
Notice: spoilerish alert.
I feel like this game really highlighted the idea of gameplay to service the story more than any I've ever played, instead of vice versa. Sure, most games have stories, and many have very good stories, but it generally feels like the story is there to justify the gameplay mechanics, the setting, the art style, etc. TLoU really felt like it was made to tell the story. Especially considering the ending, which feels like it runs counter to the type ...
Sucks that FG83 is out of bubbles for this thread, but really? Someone "disagrees" with asking people to source their claims? Wow.
Ya gotta right click and pick "copy link location" and paste in each link individually. Just copy/pasting text from other posts results in bad links.
Source?
Game dialogue: subtitles
Music: nice to have, but generally not integral to playing or understanding the game
I say this as someone that usually plays games with the sound muted, and use a headset when I really want to use chat.
