Those extra 285k servers are going to be located at the new $1.2bil, 1,000,000sqft NSA data center in Utah. /sarcasm (or is it?)

"monitoring people without consent is not legal"
Can't wait to see the EULA. Maybe that will finally open some people's eyes.
But Azure isn't exclusively for the Xbone.
And how many of those servers are going to be dedicated to processing Kinect-provided marketing/advertising data?
It's a "revolutionary and innovative truth-bending experience!"
"Our own statements about our policies for trade in and resale are inaccurate and incomplete"
Fixed.
Did he really just end that with a "detractors live in their moms' basements" crack?
Wow.
"Only from PS fanboys!!!!"
Only from the most blind and/or naive would one hear the claim that such a fawning and baselessly optimistic article by an author whose entire career is based on public relations and social media was *not* written with a financial motive. I wonder if MS or any MS-connected companies advertise in any of his "social media" magazines, or use his PR firm. The article is laced with the most vapid PR speak ("a device brimming with...

"The ultimate system that Xbox One will use for used games and online authentication sounds like it is still in open debate on some level internally."
Yeah, I'd call that a rumor. The same article also says:
"authentication on the console's hard drive tied to the game is then verified regularly through an internet connection. When a person sells the game or it i...
"Now that it seems like used games are just like normal"
Can you clarify that statement?
Shrewd marketing to release these in the midst of the "xbone haz no gaemz" hub-bub.
Will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

Stop reading N4G and support the industry by BUYING a copy of GameInformer.
"In one scenario, Kinect used its facial recognition to scan a room full of people and note if there was someone in the room it didn't recognize. It then told the console owner that there is someone in the room it didn't recognize and asked the new person to identify themselves. Once the person said their name, Kinect welcomed them and saved their information to the console."
Nothing creepy about that, right?

I think the always-on Kinect would also be an incredible incentive for hackers, knowing that if they can hack Live, they'll potentially gain access to an active, always-on camera and microphone in the home of every single One owner. Definitely potential for some serious-scale "lulz."
Do you set your iPhone on top of your TV with the camera facing into the room all day long, which the Kinect will be by default? Do you have its permissions set allow collection of video and audio data, as the Kinect will be by default?
Why not just let them require a subdermal GPS microchip to use the system? After all, how is that different from an iPhone with geolocation?
I'd wager that you won't need to swap controllers.
I'm also wondering if it might not connect via HDMI. If it connected via HDMI, how would you connect a cable box?
This is likely their solution to backwards compatibility, and it's not that bad of an idea. Unless your 360 breaks.
Edit: I bet it'll also add some improved Kinect 2.0 functionality to the 360.
I really don't even get the appeal there. One of my biggest pet peeves is automated call trees where you "talk" to the computer instead of "press 1 for... press 2 for..."
I have absolutely no desire to voice command my TV or console. And amusingly enough, it actually requires more energy (and time) to wave your arms around to change screens and soforth than to click a controller button.
I wonder if people will start seeing more person...
@BigPappy: money also comes from selling customer information for advertising metrics. Their suite may not be as robust as Google's, but they do still sell advertising services and analytics.
