As far as the thermal paste, if you've got it opened, might as well paste it. And if you separate the sink from the chips, which you should do for a thorough cleaning, you should clean them and reapply the paste.
I did this to my old phat, and I've fixed a couple YLoDs, which also includes a thorough cleaning.
Please elucidate on how "walking in public with cameras everywhere" is "gaming related." Start with that, and maybe then we can consider moving on to your boilerplate false equivalency.

@Sniper: I was waffling about getting the disc or download TLoU, and I ended up getting the disc because I figured I'd end up finishing it and getting a few bucks back off of it.
Little did I know how much I would enjoy the multiplayer, and now I'm constantly popping the disc in and out to go between bedroom and living room. Wish I had grabbed the digital.
Get out your screwdriver, vacuum, canned air, and thermal paste, and that old PS3 will be right as rain.
I've been saying "gotta crack open my phat and vacuum it out" for the last six months. :-P My slim is still quiet as a mouse, though.
