"I've been in touch with Major Nelson and he made it clear that he didn't understand that the information he gave me was going to be passed along to others."

PR mouthpiece speaking on highly contentious policy issues didn't think his statements would be reported? I think that's a pretty clear indicator that the Major is F'ing clueless.

Gets REALLY old seeing MS and Xbots saying the 24-hour check-in isn't DRM. Oh it's only to assist in keeping track of your sharing? (that's pure BS, but whatever) So it's there to DIGITALLY MANAGE who has the RIGHTS to share your games? The 24-hour check-in is the DEFINITION of DRM.

@newmonday: Actually, you lose the "free" games if you cancel your sub, but anything you pay for (PS+ discounts) you can keep. If you re-sub, you can get the "free" games back.

Funny, the current EULA admits that the current Kinect collects data on you. The EULA also states:

"we may access or disclose information about you, including the content of your communications, in order to: (b) protect the rights or property of Microsoft or our customers, including the enforcement of our agreements or policies governing your use of the Services"

...so please don't try to pretend that there's no useable connection between th...

Right... the Xbone gets bombed by the Daily Show and the Navy Times because of "Sony fanboys" and "lies."

Moron.

Ah Kinect... Israeli spy technology at its finest.

So I'm supposed to subsidize its development with my tax dollars, and still pay an extra $100 for something I don't want? I'll pass.

"Nobody actually knows if they gather data from Kinect or not. That is something tinfoils and PS fanboys came up with."

Right... "tinfoils and PS fanboys" that can read an EULA. The CURRENT EULA for the 360 w/ Kinect ADMITS that they gather data from Kinect.

"If you use ... Kinect, we may also collect data about the way in which you interact with the console and the Services to improve Microsoft products and services."

I got choked up there at the intro-end myself. Played it again the next day for my wife and she teared up. I actually got more choked up in the lead-up while watching it the second time, knowing what was coming.

And yeah, having a daughter of my own probably factored into it.

"Kinect can be turned off ... it has a power button"

No, the Xbone has a power button. The Kinect can only be shut "off" via software settings. Software settings can be remotely overridden.

Remote activation doesn't even necessarily need to enter into it. I've got a Samsung DLP HDTV from 2008, and recently it's been a bit buggy, with settings repeatedly reverting themselves to defaults. Hell, when I plug my Win7 laptop into my ...

@malokevi: Nah, I could tell it was "totes lame" well before the share announcement. I don't really share many games, but that doesn't mean I favor forfeit of my consumer rights. I also don't own a gun, but that doesn't mean I'm willing to forfeit my right to do so.

So anyway... which is it? Is A) baked-in DRM good so that publishers and developers can maximize their profits, or is B) sharing good so that 11 people can all play the same single pu...

Please familiarize yourself with the concept of "false equivalency."

There are a couple other logical fallacies in your brief "argument," but the above referenced is obnoxiously common.

$50 for 12 or 15 months depending when/how you buy (sometimes you can get an extra three months free with a year sub).

Bu... bu... but I thought the game industry was in trouble from used game sales and people playing games without paying the publisher/developer and the Xbone DRM is going to save the industry by reducing used game sales. :P

Xbone DRM announced: "Yay! Publishers will get paid for their work!"
Xbone sharing announced: "Yay! Eleven people can play for the price of one!"

Anyone else notice that the posted release date for BF4 for PS4 is October 29?

October 29th is a Tuesday... PS Store update day & common game release day.

Sony beating MS to store shelves?

P.S.
CoD Ghost: Nov 5
All other launch titles have Dec 31 placeholders. And no BF4 or CoD:G for Xbone listed for preorder?

I'd bet those dev kits were at least running PS4-comparable AMD graphics cards.

One thing that I find really striking was the difference in the Sony and MS stages at E3.

The Sony stage was head and shoulders above the MS stage in terms of style, sophistication, and impact.

One of the things that's really pathetic is that the CURRENT EULA for the 360/Kinect ADMITS that they spy, and yet for some reason we actually have to "debate" whether or not it's going to happen.

The current XBL EULA includes the following. Keep in mind that the term "Services" will cover a much broader spectrum with the One.

"If you use ... Kinect, we may also collect data about the way in which you interact with the console...

What you don't get is that people aren't "fearing what they don't understand," they're disliking what they do understand.

You are the one clearly lacking in "understanding." You don't 'understand' that there are conditions outside of "not paying for internet" that result in lack of connectivity, such as ISP problems, natural forces, vacations, military service, etc. I could go on and on about the other areas that in wh...
