Uhm, actually dude... That Game Company, the developers of both Flower and Journey, is based out of LA. They're an American company, not Japanese. Kellee Santiago, the president of the company, is from Venezuela and Jenova Chen is from China.

That aside, I tend to agree with your point, at least in terms of story. The strong points of Japanese games are typically in the story department. However, I think there is a lot of justifiable criticism with regards to Japanese gam...

Am I the only one that thinks Ben Browder (of Farscape) would be a great Nate Drake? His character on Farscape had a rogue-ish personality not at all unlike Drake.

Very true. Casual games definitely enjoy a large overlap market, but I think the overlap is primarily in the mobile space. Look at the sales figures for the average Wii game as an example. Nintendo has, by far, the greatest install base this generation, and yet still the average 360 and PS3 game beats the average Wii game in sales. The casual market is huge, no doubt, but I just don't believe it has the legs to survive in the console space without a hardcore foun...

The casual market is where the money is right now, yes. Will it be where the money is in the long term though? I think that depends on the platform.

The hardcore gaming market has been around for a long time and will continue to be because it is capable of sustaining itself over a period of time. Why? Because it's made up of consumers who play lots of different games, people who are interested in new, up-and-coming games - these people devote time to it and consider this ...

Good catch. Clearly a shopped Mass Effect image, with Shepard just sort of pasted over the Eve image and some minor color tweaks.

The picture used for City 17 is actually a picture created by Craig Mullins for Bungie's Marathon series. Not that City 17 is not a great choice or anything, but just thought that was worth pointing out.

One of my good friends happened to pick a name with "69" in it, because she was born in 1969. As you can imagine, she gets a lot of undesirable attention because of it. She clearly didn't think this through very well, but I'm sure she is only one among many who would welcome the opportunity to change their name to something perhaps less embarrassing.

Why does every new feature have to be something *you* are interested in? Isn't it enough that it's so...

uhm... yeah.

It could also be that the controls *SUCKED* and made the game virtually unplayable and absolutely unenjoyable.

I haven't played it since the update to address the control issues, but there was no "media conspiracy" to paint the game in a bad light, it was simply bad out of the gate.

That said, I *would* like to see a sequel that addresses the issues with the original. It was a good concept and a visually beautiful g...

The problem I had with the new Cole wasn't necessarily a problem with character design, but presentation - I just had a hard time envisioning new Cole as anything other than a good guy. He just looked too charming, too nice. Somebody easily approachable, very likable.

In contrast old Cole was presented to us, from the very beginning, as both good and bad. We never had a problem envisioning him in either role because we saw him occupy both roles right out of the gate. I th...

Yeah, I agree. The textures themselves are high resolution and very impressive, but everything in the distance is flat and the textures repeat so much that it looks like somebody just rolled out wallpaper on the ground.

I know I'll probably be hated for this... but I really don't understand what is supposed to be so impressive about these shots.

Sure the textures look great up close, if you really want to stand around staring at the ground, but everything in the distance looks flat and boring. Not to mention the textures repeat to a sickening degree - that would be highly annoying in game.

The sales were a big disappointment, I'll give you that. Honestly though, I didn't expect it to do very well on the Xbox given the majority of the Xbox crowd are FPS players. Alan Wake is a niche title on a system with an install base that will have limited interest in the title to begin with, which is a shame. I think it's the kind of title that would have done better sales on the PS3. On top of that, Microsoft did not market the game very well at all, which is just ridiculous of...

I think there were a lot of fantastic gameplay and story-based innovations in Heavy Rain, and I *absolutely* appreciate what it has done for gaming, because I feel it has made an extremely worthwhile mark and helped to birth a new type of genre. These are all things it should (and probably will) be remembered for doing. I expect it to be a huge influence and inspiration for many developers in the years to come.

That said, it was probably my biggest disappointment this year, p...

Yeah, I would disagree with Alan Wake, MAG, and Saboteur.

I really enjoyed Alan Wake, the gameplay was perhaps a little too repetitious, but otherwise I thought it was a fantastic game. I wouldn't call it a disappointment at all.

I think MAG is absolutely fantastic for what it is trying to be. It is an extremely innovative game that is often not given the credit it deserves for all the fantastic teamwork innovations. 256 players online is cool and all, bu...
