Could you possibly be more hypocritical?

"You all believing what happens to another doesn't affect you is naive at best."

"Get off your high horses and get on the right side of the fight , YOUR SIDE, not theirs."

Wait - I thought "believing what happens to another doesn't affect you is naive" - now you're saying the opposite. You sure spin a twisted and confusing little thread.

There's a difference. When I sell my car...

1) It's several years old.

2) It's got several tens of thousands of miles on it.

3) I'm also selling all the problems that go along with it.

4) I'm selling all of the wear and tear on the vehicle.

5) It doesn't cut into the car manufacturers profit margins because they're no longer selling the exact same car I'm selling. They're s...

"They made there money when gs or walmart or target ect bought their game."

That's not exactly how the distribution relationship works, but I'll ignore that for now because it's a close enough approximation for the topic at hand. Think about this though, using that model of thought, they're only making money so long as the retailers are buying new copies. The retailers don't have any reasons to buy new copies so long as they have a flow of used c...

How is it any different and how is it an issue at all?

The developer / publisher has to do *something* to differentiate their product from the used one on the shelf immediately next to theirs, selling for $5 less.

@ below

That's actually a good point. I still don't see it as significant enough that it matters to me, personally. But kudos anyway, it's the first good point I've heard on this issue all week.

How does it make sense to boycott these games?

I fail to understand the outrage people have over this issue. It's ridiculous.

Prior to the online passes you'd walk into a GameStop (or whatever other store that sells used games) and you'd see two games next to each other on the shelf. One is priced at $60 new, the other at $55 used. There's no difference between them other than maybe some minor cosmetic scuffs. Which do you buy? Eh, why not sav...

It's completely nonsensical to compare used video games to used cars because the markets are so totally different. There is almost nothing that can be compared beyond the fact that the markets exist. The time it takes the original owner to turn around and sell a vehicle is considerably longer than the time it takes somebody to play a game and sell it used. Car manufacturers are not competing against their own products in the market place on any significant level. They're selling the l...

As hokey as I thought that video was, it really does have to feel pretty awesome if you're Naughty Dog.

Agreed. The author implies that these sorts of games are for the "casual" crowd and not the "hardcore" gamer. I couldn't disagree more. I'd argue that most "casual" gamers don't even know many of these games exist. It's the "hardcore" among us that follow these games and are aware of them despite the lack of serious marketing attention. This generation is full of some incredible gems on the download space that sadly get overlooked by peo...

Everyone is going to have a different opinion on this, and none of us can really say with any certainty that our idea is right or wrong, but I think there is some evidence to suggest that the elimination of a used games market brings prices down.

Consider the proliferation of digital distribution methods (Steam and the like). Steam has massive sales on a regular basis, offering games for a fraction of the price expected at retail. Even the standard prices on Steam are typical...

"Reality is that second hand markets in all walks of life have been around forever and will continue to and if a company choses to lock out such an option, well then consumers will go elsewhere."

Good. That's exactly what we need. The bottom line is that right now consumers *aren't* going elsewhere and until something drastic changes they never will. That's my point exactly. Once they do, the publishers / developers have to ...

No, not true. At best, it's just a plausible conjecture. This article assumes, without any data to back it up, that there are significant numbers of people who won't buy new games if they're not able to trade away old ones for the money to do so. The fact is, there is no data to back that idea up. It's a guess, no more, no less.

The article suggests that if that were to happen then sales would plummet because people wouldn't be able to trade away old games...

While I agree with the article for the most part, I think the author paints Human Revolution in a bad light and isn't entirely fair about it. Now, I absolutely love the original game, it's one of my all time favorites (definitely in my top 5). But some of the changes made in HR vs the original game just make sense.

For example, the original game included lock picking and a very lame hacking system. The lock picking made no sense because to hack a lock you had to carry...

@ mr.selftdestruct

"1st off every game sold was once bought new. So they were paid for it." blah blah blah "it has zero impact on the company."

Wrong. Here's why:

While that's true on the surface, yes, they did get paid for that *single* purchase, they're just not getting paid what they should be. Don't believe me? Often the argument goes something like this: "Every other thing has a used market, like ...

That's a direct result of the way Jaffe portrays himself. People don't blow what he says out of proportion nearly so much as he blows tiny, insignificant issues out of proportion and rants about them like they matter in any way at all. Jaffe overreacts and whines about the most ridiculous things and he does it so frequently it's impossible to take him seriously.

I use Home relatively frequently, and for the most part I enjoy it. However, even I would freak out if Sony made Home a dashboard/XMB replacement. Home has its place, but that's not it.

He's always complaining because it gets him attention. He's a whiny attention whore and always has been. I mean, he's whining about seeing the console logo on boot? Seriously? If I turn my PS3 or 360 on at the same time as my TV it literally takes the TV longer to warm up and display an image than it does for either console to be at their respective menus. This is such a non-issue. It doesn't even warrant serious discussion, let alone a rant.

If you want to ra...

I think the game is great, but there is one thing I can agree with the reviewer on, at least at this point (I'm not very deep into the game yet, only 10ish hours or less, so my opinion may change). As of right now I do agree with the reviewer that Demon's Souls was a better game. Some of the mechanics even felt a little tighter (particularly the parrying/riposte mechanic felt much tighter and fluid in Demon's Souls).

Dark Souls is still fantastic though. I can'...

The Marathon series is hands down my favorite.

Beyond that... maybe Deus Ex, Mass Effect, Myth...

Assassin's Creed is shaping up nicely but could easily turn to crap, will be interesting to see which way it goes.

Bioshock was pretty great until the closing boss fight and twist.

Alan Wake was pretty awesome even if not yet complete.

Yeah they did, but unfortunately only people already familiar with those characters will have any idea what games they're from, so it's not really a focused advertisement for the games themselves. The system, definitely, the games... not so much.

Great video though.
