I never bothered to learn the Xbox controller. I played the PS2 for years. I knew the controller, I was comfortable with it and when it was time to step into the next gen, I didn't want to have to relearn everything. I know where the damn square button is and which one is circle without having to look.
I don't want to relearn button placements all over again.
But if he likes the Xbox controller, then more power to him.
Why did the XB1 have a two week embargo?
I'm in the camp that says if you're getting a PS4, get Killzone instead. It's the one FPS that was designed solely for a next gen console.
So why the two week embargo then? Why not let them talk about it when they did the other reviews?
I also think that you're going to prefer playing a multi-platform game on whichever system has the controller you're most comfortable with. For me, that trumps resolution or framerate.

It's like the difference between a major motion picture and a youtube clip. Watching a man get hit in the crotch on youtube may be entertaining but it's not the same thing as watching Schindler's List on the big screen. People aren't going to stop watching movies because they can watch cat videos on their phones.
I think it's way too early to make any kind of call. Nobody in 2006 would have called that the PS3 would eventually sell better than the 360. A lot can change over the years.
I'm playing Super Metroid for the first time right now. Loving it. I've played all the Prime games, and they were awesome so I'd love to see a new Metroid game. It was one of the few Nintendo franchises that felt more grown up.
I had fun with AC Liberation, but it was really buggy. remember I was near the end when a glitch froze my screen and when it started back up, I had the credits rolling and was awarded several trophies for finishing the game. I think it could have been great if those technical issues didn't exist... oh, and the part about holding the Vita up to a light. That just sucked.

I have a 3G launch Vita with a 32gb card that is so full of games that I haven't had time to play all of them. Gravity Rush is actually what I'm playing right now, and love it. Also playing CastleStorm which is awesome.

If there's one thing I've learned over the years it's that game developers will take the path of least resistance. They didn't want to fine tune everything for the complex cell processor, and now they're not going to want to fine tune everything for esram. Those theoretical maximums will be achieved infrequently.
But the systems aren't even out yet. Let's talk sales numbers in December.
For someone who grew up with Mario and has played game after game with him throughout the years, I understand where his argument is coming from.
But Mario exists also for the kid who just today is playing a Mario game for the first time. My daughter loves the Mario games (right now she' working her way through Mario64 on an old N64). There is something very appealing about these games and the characters, so while I may be burned out on it, she isn't. And this goes for millions...
The Vita is NOT still lacking good games and never has. I have more great games on my Vita than I have time to play them.
Agree, it's a good premise, but the points he makes are so whacked, it just doesn't make sense.
I mean, he doesn't once mention that Gran Turismo 6 is coming out exclusively on the PS3, which is bound to lift sales. THat would have been a valid point.
In the end, I think that the PS4 will sell out quickly and people looking to get one might actually end up getting a PS3 instead.

I don't know if I'm a fanboy, but I got steered in the PlayStation direction years ago and have been incredibly happy with my PS3, PSP, and PS Vita (and my PS2 before that).

I'm thinking of going a new route this gen. After seeing the gluttony of unplayed games in my collection mount, I was thinking of only buying console exclusives. Between those and the free games from PS+, (plus my incredible backlog of games going back to the Wii (I've still to play Super Metroid which I bough on the Virtual Console)) I think I'll have a grand time.
Am I the only one who hates IGN's constant use of video to say something that I could have read in 5 seconds? No, instead I have to sit through a commercial, then the IGN logo screen, followed up with the IGN standard "What's up everybody?"
I miss the old days where somebody would just write something and I could read it quickly. Everything moves so slow in this world of video opinion pieces.
I'm not surprised for 2 reasons (the quality of CoD not being either)
1. Battlefield got a lot of hype this year and probably stole some sales.
2. Next gen consoles are a few weeks away and a lot of people are probably holding off until after they get their new system.
There was a lot more repeating of commands than I would have thought, and some other outlets are reporting that repeating yourself is a frequent event.
It does make it seem like just scrolling around with the controller would actually be faster.
My only question is if it's so great on the XB1, why was there an embargo? Why couldn't reviewers say all this two weeks ago?
This game was rushed for every platform and needs some serious patch work. It's not going to make a bad game good, but it will make a glitchy game smoother.
