As someone who monitors changing trends in culture and demographics for a living, I'm starting to believe that MS just doesn't get it.
In Japan, there is a very noticeable shift away from console gaming. Anyone can look at the number of DS and PSP's pushed per month to get that idea. Even the Wii, which is by definition a "console," presents itself as being nothing more than a home-based handheld.
The reason why these systems are so popular is that they of...
If..and that's a BIG if...MS is preparing to release a new Infinite Undiscovery bundle why force a shortage of existing models?
I understand the thought process behind it--create demand to bolster the appeal of the 360 in relation to the success of TOV.
But it makes no sense IF they are trying to parle that success into gaining the same numbers from Infinite Undiscovery, either through a bundle or through the game separately. This IP doesn't have the same respectabi...
Exactly!
I'm getting L4D on the PC. I'm not going to pay $60 for a game then turn around and pay $10-15 for DLC. But MS can get away with it because people are willing to pay for it.
@theKiller
uhh..in case you missed it in the OP and in the response, I WAS BEING SARCASTIC.
I was doing an impression of a 360 fanboy getting back at PS3 owners for their ragging on the low scores of Too Human.
The irony, as you touched on in your rant, is that Afrika is a complete niche game with little to no hype.
I reached for the stars and tried that impression once, but even with my amazing skills I couldn't impress upon the fine folks at N4G anything close to the original.
Besides, I died a little inside.
I am NOT a 360 Fanboy, but I do an awesome impression of one:
"FAAaaIILLL!!!!"
"AFRI-FLooPPPP"
"FLOPRIKA"
"SOoNY's LAast HOPE FAAILS"
"hahahahahahahahaha" ;
....I always feel a little ashamed when I do that impression.
Vesperia is good (playing it now actually), but it has some wicked framerate issues during cut scenes and the "Link" battles, i.e. when there are a lot of monsters and action on screen.
So far though, the story doesn't seem as engaging as previous Tales games.
While I doubt that the game sold a ton, the site given cites VGChartz.
So take it for what it's worth.
Yeah..
a New IP sales 20,000 compared to AN ESTABLISHED AND RESPECTED IP.
Way to compare ace.
This is one of the reason's I don't like EGM. Some games get three reviews, others get one. It actually handicaps some of the bigger releases from getting the GOTM award.
For example, IF Star Wars had an A,C,C- for it's reviews it automatically loses to Tiger Woods who is awarded only with an A. Does that mean Tiger Woods is a better game? No it doesn't.
Also, why didn't Viva Pinata 2 get three reviews? I would argue that it's a pretty big release for MS.
I liked the demo so I'll check it out.
It's too bad this isn't coming to PC. The Mods for this game would be insane.
A little off topic, but is anyone who bought Tales of Vesperia experiencing really bad framerate issues during cut scenes and the "Interlocked" battles?
This comment is directed to # 9 on the list:
Get off the hating of the new Star Wars movies already. The original movies were geared towards a BROAD audience just like the prequels. The reason why YOU may not like them is because you're looking at them from the point of view as a FANBOY whose built the OT up to some mythic status within your own mind.
Just like the original movies were created to appeal to large audiences, so were the prequel trilogies. You know th...
I'm almost 26 yo and I giggled a little at the "Naked Sack"
Those costumes better be in the game or somebody gonna get a hurtin.
It depends.
It's good that there are more RPGs but so far they are proving to be mediocre affairs. The only exception is Lost Odyssey.
So "good" and "bad" are based solely on whether you consider quantity or quality in the mix.
Was that actually people playing the game?
Or was it a conceptual piece meant to show what the game WOULD be like?
If that was actually gameplay then I'm sold.
Off Topic:
I must be reaally tired. I saw this: "Back in June, a rep from Sony popped into the PSW office..."
But I read it as this: "Back in June, a rep from Sony pooped in the PSW office..."

4 player co-op, huzzah!
The points raised by GI is pretty much what I thought about the Vesperia demo: Its pretty much the same game with shinier graphics. Or the JRPG equivalent to Madden.
Its too bad though. The first "Tales" game I played was "Symphonia" and I loved it. Then I played Legendia and Abyss and thought, "hmm..this is just like Symphonia." Finally, I played "Radiant Mythology" for PSP and again thought it lacked innovation. But I may pick up Vesperia s...
while it looked like Ninja Gaiden, I was definitely getting a "Shinobi" (PS2) vibe.
