This may be the first DS that I buy for myself.
Honestly, though. What good would it do to put a Blu-ray drive in the 360 at this point? Releasing new games on Blu-ray would mean that the entire user base wouldn't be able to play those games without a new console.
For the next console I agree that Microsoft needs an HD media format. No question.
There's nothing to support the assertion that Blu-ray makes up $200 of the $299 price tag. You can get standalone, fully featured Blu-ray players from Sony, Samsung and Panasonic for around $130, so the actual cost of the drive alone must be much lower than that.
It's so hard to take people seriously when they just pull their facts out of thin air.
If you can use the old cables from when the Elite launched then you can pick one up for next to nothing on eBay. It's not like it's something you'll use over and over again.
I loved Driver on the PS1.
$20 for a transfer cable? That's pricey, but it isn't the most expensive cable I've seen. $40 for a Microsoft branded HDMI cable. $50 for a Sony HDMI/USB cable combo pack. Everyone gets screwed on cables.
What I would probably do is buy one from someone on eBay, use it, and turn around and sell it on eBay to someone else who needs it. No sense keeping a single-use cable and reselling on eBay ultimately lowers the price for everyone involved if the cycle continues....
Just because people aren't "hardcore" gamers it doesn't mean they're idiots. How is it going to confuse them?
Are their "analyzing tools" their eyes? Because everything they mentioned is obvious just by looking at it.
Built-in wireless is good. External power brick not so much. I'm curious as to whether you still have to buy proprietary Microsoft HDD's. It looks a lot like you'll have to.
Not digging the external power supply at all. I don't understand that. It's not as big as the brick on the one that I have, but it is still a pretty large brick.
What's so funny about this is that Microsoft never mentioned Sony or PSN in the response to the question. They only talked about the value they believe Xbox Live provides.
I guess that doesn't stop people from believing the headline, though.
$299.
Think that's gonna happen? It might get me to replace my fat 60GB with a slim if it did.
I don't know what you guys are carrying on about. It makes perfect sense that Microsoft employees would be asked to give up their seats to the press at a PRESS EVENT.
I swear it's like kindergarten around here today.
Makes me wonder if it's a fire sale. I can't see Microsoft continuing to produce two form factors.
$299 is a bit pricey, IMO. I know they're thinking the feature set is similar to the PS3 and that it's $50 less than the 250GB PS3's $349 price, but it isn't all about hard drive space.
If it was being sold with Kinect packed in that would be one thing. But on it's own it'll take a cut to $199 to get me to replace my current 360.
Well, considering the source...
But I digress. We'll have to see how things go over the next couple of days. MS hyped this thing. Now they have to live up to it.
Are the new PS3's just hard drive upgrades? I can't tell from the article.
Well, was anyone expecting this thing to cater to the self-proclaimed "hardcore" gamer? It's pretty clear from what I've seen all along that this peripheral is going after Nintendo, which the "hardcore" dump on every day.
I wouldn't say that they added the slide pad to the wrong place. To me it would be awkward to have the analog stick on the other side. Two would have been cool, but unnecessary since there's a touch screen. A flick of the stylus could achieve the camera control that the blogger talks about.
