Nice!
The firmware updates tell me that Sony is actively working on keeping the PS3 up to date. Even if an update only provides stability enhancements and bug fixes, that's good enough for me.
I meant impulse buys for people who already have consoles. Parents not knowing what else to get for their kids, things like that. I'm sure by the holidays we're going to see console bundles that have the motion controllers packed in for a reasonable price as well.
The only way they'll really drive new console sales is by being loss-leaders, because at the end of the day most developers are just going to be throwing shovelware at them anyway.
I have to agree Adrela. I'd like to see gamers put it behind them, too. Microsoft made one of the biggest blunders a consumer electronics manufacturer ever made. But Microsoft also made the biggest effort to correct their blunder that I've ever seen a consumer electronics manufacturer make. I think that made a bigger positive impression on the general public than the initial problem did on the fanboy rage crowd.
But this is the best weapon that the console warriors ha...
I think that the motion controllers are going to be marketed as impulse items during the holiday season. I'll bet that this year they'll do well, but see declining sales until they become standard pack-ins with every console sold and their sales can no longer be measured.
I think that your perspective is quite wrong, Oner. The PS2 wasn't at 140 million in 2005 when Sony settled their DRE lawsuit. And Microsoft wasn't at 40 million when RROD was at its height. Not to mention the overheating issues with the first PS2 slim models. Yeah, those were not the highest quality hardware. And although you have no earthly idea how many PS2's were defective, it had to be much higher than 2% to 3% for the class-action lawsuit to move forward.
Yo...
I can see the console warriors are out in full force. I had a 360 RROD on me. It wasn't the end of the world like so many make it out to be.
It's easy to say in hindsight that RROD should have never happened. Any idiot can see that. But what's obvious, though nobody wants to admit it, is that Microsoft has invested in the hardware and the problems that plagued the launch units haven't really been nearly as prevalent in the last 3 years or so.

The retail price is just a rumor, too. Doesn't stop the flamewars.
It's funny to see how so many take this stuff so seriously. Will argue down to their last bubble.
There is no clear "best" console for everyone. Each person has their personal preference, and each platform has games and features that appeal to different people. I own all 3 and there are things I like about each.
But you console warriors, you keep on fighting the good fight. Keep right on winning the hearts and minds of absolutely nobody. I'...
At this point both PS3 and 360 are successful, so can there really be a loser? I mean, the console warriors see everything as a crucial battle in the console war. But for those of us in the real world every platform has done well this generation.
Nothing like a good flamewar to warm things up in the morning. Let the insecurity flow guys. Fight that good console fight.
Interesting blog post. Everyone has their opinion I guess.
I loved Assassins Creed.
When is the post-E3 flamebait nerd rage going to end? Totally lame.
The only one of those I played was Halo 3. I didn't mind the graphics. It was the gameplay I couldn't tolerate. Last FPS I ever played.
The original Xbox is capable of "Enhanced Definition". Some of the earliest flat panels were actually marketed as EDTV because they could do 480 lines progressive scan. They were a lower cost alternative to the 720p/1080i sets because a lot of people couldn't afford $3,000 for a 37" 720p set.
And yeah, anything over 480p was considered HD. Today we have the "TrueHD" marketing term associated with 1080p. And isn't 1080p a wonderful thing? Too b...
I'm usually no fan of the ad hominem, but this guy sure does seem to suffer from an extreme case of unwarranted self-importance. Instead of news it should have been submitted as an opinion piece. To me it comes off as snarky and a bit smug.
I don't expect that everyone's going to like the new design. But it does seem to try to address most of the things people have been complaining about the system.
Don't take these things too seriously. After...
Not grasping at straws. Speaking from experience. I did watch the whole video, by the way. He never mentioned taking it to Gamestop.
It's a power issue. I don't know about the S, but the manual for the original model explicitly states that the 360 is not to be plugged into a surge protector as overloaded surge protectors do not provide a steady power source.
This is like the 3rd time the same video has been posted in different stories.
I bet his problem is that crazy surge protector he has the power brick plugged into. My 360's power supply shows a red light if it's plugged into a surge protector. I wonder what would have happened if he's plugged it directly into the wall outlet? That's what I have to do.
Most likely the power supply is red dotting because it's not getting enough power, consid...
Don't give them your credit card information. One of the hardest things I've ever done is get Microsoft to remove credit card billing information from my Xbox Live account. Just stick with the cards. There's pretty much always someone offering them for around $30 for a year.
