Waiting patiently for GT5. Very patiently.

I agree that multiplayer CAN add to the game's enjoyment and extend its life, but only when it is a purposed and serious aspect of the game. Which many aren't. This article is honestly not very good and looks at the wrong games. MW2 and BC2 are games that are based on the multiplayer (despite the author's claims otherwise), and so they have to be engaging and fun to survive. These games fundamentally RELY on the multiplayer aspect, so I agree that these games can not be ruined by ...

I believe that it is more complex than you guys are making this out to be. You really have to define "better" first.

First, in terms of overall experience (a.k.a. the memories):
I'd say that the PS2 still holds a special place in my heart above the PS3, simply because of the memories that the last 10 years have created. I was only a really small-time casual gamer in the years earlier, and it was the PS2 that really got me into gaming as I now know it. Fo...

I'm with you bro. I've got no real friends, no job at the moment, and no life. All I have is video games and a girlfriend...

...It's not a bad life, actually. :D

DD may have some technical aspects, but I believe that the most overlooked aspect (and under appreciated) about physical media is the culture and atmosphere built around it.

Box art, manuals, and the disk itself hold an infinite tangible value that digital media may never have. The beauty of scanning my game boxes, admiring the art, the details, and the love gone into the creation of the physical form is something that will forever attach me to physical media. I consider mys...

Thanks for using that analogy correctly, haha. :D

And I agree that much of the hate for GTA IV is entirely unfounded. It reminds me of the ADD generation that we are in, people have been so spoiled by San Andreas and Saint's Row that they can't MAKE their own fun anymore. It has to be delivered on a silver platter. And let me tell you, GTA IV was excellent fun with just a bit of imagination. In fact, give me GTA III any day (which has almost no features by today's...

Some nice debating guys, and I only have two simple things to say right now.

First, games DO devalue. Everything does. The moment you crack open that case, the game is automatically no longer worth what you paid for it. The more usage it gets and the more wear and tear it gets, the more it devalues, but TIME itself rather than condition is what acts on the value first and foremost. Even if that game is in perfect working condition, if you have opened it even just once, the va...

You just shot yourself in the foot with that analogy. GTA 3 was, and still is, one of the most amazing and influential games I've ever played. In addition to being a lot of firsts, it also is a shining example of an incredibly fun game without any of the fluff. You do a great service to GTA IV by comparing it with III.

But anyways, I'm a sucker for open-world games, and GTA IV managed to hold my attention for roughly 150 hours before I became bored of it, so I'm r...

I've honestly never seen any major bugs either. Sure, there have been minor ones, but that's expected given the scale of the game. Personal experiences do not equal the experience of the whole, and in my experience the most vocal groups are usually the minorities. Take that as you will, but buggy or not buggy, it truly is an excellent game, and a fresh take on the open-world genre.

But the 3 commentators above me who did nothing but complain can't even structure a...

I remember bringing home the original Roller Coaster Tycoon when I was younger and scrutinizing the box, looking at the descriptions and pictures, and imagining the box on myself and the game in my system. The box art alone managed to accomplish what now takes the entire internet to do -- hype me up.

That power, and those memories alone are worth the cost of physical media. What DD offers in terms of advantages are all easily outweighed by the beauty, experiences, and culture...

Wow, you've just reminded me what an eventful and game-packed year it has been... and the year's only half over! You really couldn't ask for a better start to the year, and I'm willing to bet that the end will be just as amazing, if not more so.

Of course, with all these great games, it will be nigh impossible for any single GOTY candidate to be considered. I mean, just the fact that so many great games have released early in the year pretty much dooms them fr...

So you are basing your entire argument on personal experiences? That's a big no-no, and reaffirms my belief that I am wasting my time debating with you, as you have yet to produce any substantial content. Oh well, I'll continue anyways.

While I do understand that there are many pirates on the PC, you are greatly exaggerating the situation. I'll just borrow this statistic from champ21's comment: "PCGA reports 13.1 billion in software sales for PC(2009). Th...

1) Way to generalize bro. Do you seriously believe that every single PC gamer pirates their games? Because that's how you worded it, and I'm going to assume that you are that foolish. Despite the cries of, well, everyone, the fact of the matter is that PC games DO sell. Just read some of the comments above for some statistics.

2) Crysis is only one of the best games ever, in your opinion. That is entirely subjective, and anyways, quality does not always equal sales. T...

This is what I've been saying since the game released, yet everybody has dismissed me, just as they dismiss you.

I don't understand the fervor of comparing the two games. For a solid comparison, you need some basic similar foundations -- yet the only one that Red Dead Redemption and GTA IV share is the open-world aspect. I feel like this should be common sense, as the two games are totally different experiences with almost no shared features.

Well I've been playing for about 10-12 hours (give or take), and I've just reached Mexico, which apparently is approximately the halfway point of the game. I've also gone out of my way to do side missions and challenges, but a large bulk of my play time has been the main story, although I am taking my sweet time and letting the details and setting soak in.

So just doing the story should last you long enough (and give you enough enjoyment) to get your full money...

You may be able to play them with ease on older PCs, but even then, entirely rejecting the potential development for the PS3 is only limiting your options. You may prefer to play Valve games on the PC, but that by no means represents the chunk of people who would inevitably purchase the game for the PS3. Just as they did with the Orange Box.

You should understand by now that your choice of the PC does not represent the choice of many many others. Some prefer to use a PC, and ...

You guys wouldn't want games such as Left 4 Dead on the PS3? Or you are content with playing Episodes 1 and 2 of Half Life 2, even though the third installment (whenever it releases) will very likely not be playable on the PS3?

A good game is a good game. I don't understand your (or anybody's) reasoning for claiming that they don't want Valve games on the PS3, even though the demand is supposedly there. I also don't understand why these same people are con...

Very nice. Video game scores are often one of the most overlooked, yet absolutely essential elements of any game, especially action-packed games such as Killzone 2. Games are an inherently disconnected experience, something that no amounts of intense battles and gunfire can entirely overcome. What is needed for a truly connected, immersive experience is either a fantastic story or a fantastic soundtrack. And Killzone 2 really did have a fantastic soundtrack. Every time the music starts up, my...

It was a good game, at its core. One of the first really substantial westerns I had played.

And you would not be enjoying Red Dead Redemption right now had Revolver not come into existence. Don't take what you have for granted and try to forget the past.

Sure, Redemption doesn't bear much similarities to Revolver, but you have to give credit where credit is due, for sure.

5766d ago 4 agree1 disagreeView comment

Indeed. The original game has sold over 1.5 million copies, so I don't understand why anyone would think that an open-world, big budget, sequel with mass appeal would do poorly.

It also amazes me how some deride Red Dead Revolver or entirely ignore its existence. Revolver was, in my opinion, an amazing game that should be experienced by those looking for additional western gameplay. Revolver and Redemption may bear almost no similarities besides setting and branding, but ...

Bro, the IP was born a little over 6 years ago, and the original was certainly a worthy game...

But still, what an outstanding psuedo-sequel! I'm picking up my copy tomorrow afternoon and can't wait until I am able to sit down for my first long gaming marathon in a while.
