The majority of us on this forum are neither developers nor computer engineers. From what I've seen on the PC side 4 gigs of DDR3 ram is more than sufficient to run the most CPU taxing games out there. Also high end discreet video cards like the a stock GTX 680 only come with 2 gigs of ram on board. The PS4 and X1 are closed spec machines which do not need near the amount of resources as PCs to achieve the same level of graphical fidelity. Frankly, 4 gigs is more than enough for the b...

I agree 100%. There is no need for all the bickering. Both of these consoles will do well in the marketplace now that MSFT has had to reverse its stance on some key issues. We can only benefit from these changes. Imagine if there was no competition. We wouldn't see aggressive price cuts or improvement of features. If either company had a lion's share I believe we would see more restrictive, anti consumer behavior. Remember, these are companies and customers serve only as a mean...

That''s right. We are talking years before we see either system receive casual adoption. But even though price is the major purchasing determinant history does show that perceived value also carries great weight. The PS3 is a testament to that.

PS3 launched with hardware advantages that were deemed unnecessary in the gaming community in 2006. It launched at a considerably higher price and continues to be the more expensive feature rich console today. In spite of ...

You know what? This guy makes a lot of sense. I agree with everything said except for one thing. We cannot quite determine who will be most successful next gen this early in. We do not know the full feature set of either platform.

It would appear that Sony is taking a more games centric path but as demonstrated by MSFT just a few months ago they can easily amend or bolster their offering through software changes. We also must consider price. X1 will not be a mainstream ...

Surprisingly funny stuff. Listen Microsoft. If you want to succeed you have to increase the porn capacity!

Puppeteer looks very interesting. This game along with the new Rayman game is renewing my interest in platformers. Can't wait to get my hands on both.

I was in disagreement with whole notion of introducing more social features into gaming until they brought up The Division. I am one of the rare few that enjoy the single player experience above multiplayer. I love story and character progression more than the competitiveness of online PVP. But the Division seems as if it will merge the best of both of these worlds. The over arching premise looks promising and the pop in pop out nature of solo or co-op vs AI vs player just looks awesome. ...

Your last sentence is absolutely true. These consoles will be very close and I do not believe anyone with either or both will be disappointed with their purchase. And who even cares about cloud gaming at this point. Neither system will benefit enough to create any advantages. As far as gaming goes, I see cloud computing being a game changer in 15 to 20 years when infrastructurally we can support global avg speeds above 500 mbs. Right now it is a talking point that is out of place and un...

I had to stop reading after the first paragraph. There were too many grammatical and syntax errors. I am not perfect but wording such as " more worst" irritates me. I know English may not be the writer's first language but I just can't stand to see such butchery.

I don't know. I don't believe we will see tremendous differences between the 2 platforms on multiplats. Maybe frame rate? I don't know. Graphical effects and fidelity will be identical but I can see developers increasing the frame rate. Maybe even resolution. Where I do see a potential disparity is in exclusives. Sony may indeed have the upper hand as evidenced by the in engine Dark Sorcerer and The Order demos. The crazy thing is both aforementioned demos are appearing th...

Interesting concept but a gimmick none the less. What if you are just a sweaty bastard by default? Like me! Games would never ramp up in difficulty.

Both next gen versions will be 99.9 percent identical. If there are any spec advantages on any system multi-platform titles will not expose that. The name of the game, when both platforms share the same programming architecture, is parity. We don't know the context in which the comparison was made but I would surmise it is to current gen.

Lol. I thought those were legitimate features. I mean, it has night vision, the ability to recognize emotions, read your heart rate and gauge levels of interest. Is it far fetched to believe there isn't some data to be gleaned from watching us sleep? I dunno. Maybe I was a little slow on the uptake.

Short answer is no. Long answer is never trust large organizations. The NSA is a government entity with legal access to ALL forms of personal information when deemed necessary. Even though we interact and communicate through private means such as Skype and email, we are doing so on public infrastructure that is regulated by the gov. The thing is that what we know of Prism but we may never know of the other joint programs that exist between the gov and corporations. We cannot fault MSFT f...

In short -- no. They were never purposed to be PCs so they cannot be downgraded from what a PC is. The next generation of consoles will in fact be upgrades of prior console iterations. They have been designed to improve on what current gen consoles do. Nothing else.

I also don't understand why the talking heads of these graphics manufacturers rarely ever comment on price, accessibility or ease of use when they make their comparisons. "Wait, I can get better graf...

I was one of the many in opposition to MSFT's DRM policies. It was an affront to the sensibilities of gamers. MSFT would have had us believe that relinquishing ownership and rights to first sale was in our best interest. We were to be rewarded for our compliance with a very superficial sharing plan that would in theory do greater damage to developer vitality than GameStop ever could. Can you imagine 10 people per game playing for free? Everyone loses.

A large portio...

I would have liked a new Resistance game but I would be just as pleased with R&C. They need to stay away from new IPs like Fuse for a while though.

Save it from what? I am neither for nor against X1 but I believe it can be a success in its current incarnation. The author's views (valid but narrow in scope) hinge on issues that will and cannot be determinants of success. DRM, Kinect, failure rates, indies...these are concerns for the well informed first adopters. That number is minuscule compared to the uninitiated, uninformed masses who will be deciding which company fails or survives in the years to come. They will not care or ...

I have never played a Witcher game but I am excited for the Witcher 3. Knowing that I can play this streaming remotely to my Vita just excites me even more. Let's hope they nail down a competent control scheme.
