I don't believe that there are as many different types of RE fans as the guy suggests. Survival horror is a genre within itself and is by no means a sub genre of action adventure. I hate how they try to blame fans' disparate tastes for their lack of focus when it is obvious that 5 and 6 were blatant attempts to emulate mechanics and ultimately the success of CODDLEFIELD and GEARS OF UNCHARTED. No one asked for the mess that is RE6. There are so many design issues and out of place ...

Interesting. It appears 99% of the leaks surrounding hardware specs were dead on or very close to fact. I cannot wait for the inevitable deconstruction and analysis from the tech sites to really flesh out how these discrete components actually work in concert.

A lot of the uproar comes from a higher level of fear and insecurity. Boys and men alike do not like the idea that women are increasingly moving into the hardcore gaming demographic. They relish in their perceived exclusivity, ignorant to the fact that women have been part of the core demographic for some time now. The anonymity afforded by generic avatars and a muted mic goes far these days. The thing is, developers and content holders already know about this from our private profile inf...

Ultimately, neither company will benefit at any great length. Additionally I don't think any one platform will gain that great of an upper hand over the other. TV services are peripheral to what the consoles' main purposes are. It doesn't matter if one box streams while the other acts as a pass through. Mass market consumers will not find value in either approach at $400 and $500 dollars respectively. I argue we will see similar results at that $200 sweet spot. There are far...

The onus is then placed firmly on your shoulders to pick your friends and clan wisely. Look, I am not proposing we eliminate the competitive spirit that sh!t talking fosters. What I am suggesting places all power in the idividual's hands as to what kind of communication they want to be exposed to. Imagine the friends system in place on Nintendo's consoles but less cumbersome. if 2 people who are not established friends want to communicate the only form of out reach would be a sim...

Mute doesn't curtail antagonistic communication like what is described in the article. I guess she could just delete the voice message and text and move on but it doesn't fix the problem MSFT and Sony can't seem to fix. What if he chose to harass this lady to the point she wouldn't want to turn on her Xbox. Right now that is a grim and possible reality. Well maybe she should just ignore it but that still does not address the underlying issue moving forward.

People shouldn't downplay this. MSFT and Sony have codes of conduct that define how we should interact with each other on their respective networks. I understand that there are probably a deluge of complaints that are generated everyday, making it nigh impossible for MSFT to respond in a timely manner. If that is the case they should eliminate the means of offense so everyone can enjoy the experience.
In games like COD I suggest they eliminate all forms of communication outsi...

You are correct. I was making commentary on the use of such subject matter in gaming. We usually do not see such themes coming out of western dev studios. It is usually about killing and violence. Lol. Also, I was a bit taken aback by how juvenile the characters appear. I don't think the article details the ages but I would assume they are of appropriate representative age. I am always wary of the objectification of "minors".

Again, I am not judging Japan...

WOW! Just wow. There sure are some cultural differences between Japan and Western countries. I will not judge their tastes nor what they deem appropriate. I personally do not understand the appeal.

The only RE game I haven't played is 6 because it was just horrible. The controls were clunky and the story and gameplay elements were far removed from survival horror. From what I've read it did well at retail but bad enough to warrant Capcom to go back to the drawing board and reboot the series completely. I am a long time fan and out of principle I would love to play hardball and say I have moved on and won't look back but I really hope they can fix the franchise. I want to...

Well this is just sad. I don't understand the need for such antisocial behavior. When I was in my teens the Internet was nowhere close to being this prevalent. If you wanted to interact with women it was on the phone or face to face. There was no anonymity the likes the Internet affords. Today adults and teens alike hide behind firewalls chucking violent, offensive, unacceptable verbiage for reasons I just don't understand. Who cares if women play games. Why does that bother su...

Man I am jealous. They got theirs for free as well. I gotta go out and plop down $500 (or less if they ship a Kinect-less sku) at retail. They are probably putting their grubby, dirty, filthy hands all over it every night. I wish I could put my filthy hands on it right now. :(

Cool...literally. I like that they are building in some redundant self preservation systems this time around. There is no way we should ever see any component failure due to overheating this time around.

Well said.

4583d ago 1 agree1 disagreeView comment

Not really. MSFT makes compelling and innovative hardware. The original Xbox and the 360 are testaments to that. The X1 is also shaping up to be a sexy piece of tech. Services will be the focus this time around and we need all three platform holders to innovate in that space otherwise we get stagnation. So no, MSFT shouldn't ditch hardware.

4583d ago 5 agree5 disagreeView comment

I would love to see a $350 X1. Kinect nor motion gaming holds no appeal for me. I think a lot of other consumers would agree. I know MSFT invested heavily in improving this thing but as a consumer I am apathetic. I would just like the choice to purchase a cheaper sku. People who find value in the camera will opt for the more expensive option. But I do see what you are saying. They may be reluctant now but I bet we have one more 180 before Christmas.

But don't you find all of those features to be a bit peripheral to what the focus should be? I argue that X1 should play games well before all of those other things. I know technology convergence dictates that consumer electronics perform ancillary tasks but not if the price to value ratio is too high. Right now we have a situation where the competing hardware is virtually identical and costs $100 less. Consumers, and I mean those beyond early adopters, will mostly regard price in the...

Companies like MSFT do not care about gamers, fans or consumers in the way the article suggests. Large, monolithic corporations respond to outcry only when it can negatively impact revenue stream/potential and profit. It is a bit naive to think otherwise. There is no beneficence in their actions...only cold calculation and analysis of preorders and industry analyst guidance and sentiment.
But now we know where we stand and they know where they stand. We stand on a mountain of mo...
