From what we’ve heard from devs in the past - these updates are effectively free (in terms of developer time) on Xbox and done by MS where as they require the developer to do work on PS5.
So probably not.
I agree - 7.5bn on Zenimax and just posted the biggest quarter to date - clearly in the worst position ever.
Why? That makes no sense.
You kinda answered your own question - hardware sales aren’t the only metric and aren’t as profitable as services (or any “virtual item”)
Like you said - Xbox hardware is being outsold (although not 4:1 like you said), and yet they just scored a 5bn dollar quarter.
Holy cow... game pass is awesome.
Investing 7.5bn in one of the biggest and best publishers is a clear “near death” move.
Just means it’s rendered at 1440p and upscaled to 4K. Developers can render at any resolution they want but the box will only output at 1080p and 4K.
@ScootaKuH: if you're gaming on PC, you're supporting Xbox as a brand one way or another. Whether that's by buying Xbox games (e.g. Zenimax games, Halo, etc), running things like Xbox Game Bar, or simply by using Windows.
@RedDevils: And that makes total sense, MS gets your money either way. Revenue source does not matter.
The team doing FPS boost is not the same team that works on new games...
And I think it’s safe to say with Zenimax now being owned by MS - new games are most definitely coming.
Good article!
I have great memories of this console and games like Halo, Splinter Cell etc. Still playing a lot of them today via back compat.
Microsoft doesn’t get enough credit for what they have brought to the industry with things like storage, online play etc. This box was way ahead of it’s time.
Cool story - you’ve missed out on some pretty good games and consoles over the years and you’re going to miss out on good games going forward (like those from Zenimax).
Sorry for your loss.
“Personally I don't want gamepass on PlayStation or Switch”
I want GamePass on both if it means getting zenimax games. You’re missing out on some great games.
“Why give money to a company that is just going to turn around and use it against you?”
PlayStation already does this in many ways: Windows, office, Visual studio, Azure.
OSHA really only focuses on health issues like noise in the workplace etc - they don’t focus on exploitation like the crazy overtime game developers do.
I think everyone should have good working standards - whether that’s in Walmart or in the games industry.
The games industry isn’t as rosy as you make out - there is crazy amounts of unpaid crunch time where people work ungodly hours and end up with lots of health, family & mental issues etc. Being ag...
Yes, god forbid we try to improve working conditions for humans.
This should be a global push - not just for games - but for all industries.
I believe you mean 'The Office Of The Former President' :P
Agreed Razzer - we just provide feedback, we don't decide anything (other than approving).
Can they do the same for COD next please? My SSD thanks you in advance!
While I somewhat agree with you Razzer, it's a tough one to call. I think a lot of it also comes down to how we surface information on the site. Take yesterday for example, we had like 20 articles about Microsoft and Zenimax, most of them just focusing on a subset of the overall interview/event or focusing on individual sentences Phil Spencer said, it was literally all you saw.
It would be nice if the site had a 'grouping' by topic/events, so everything NPD rela...
This is great news for the industry - a healthy industry is great for us gamers.
Also glad to hear that the industry isn't being too affected by the pandemic.
@Yaku I’d rather Sony and Nintendo spend their money on making more good exclusives rather than waste it on a pointless lawsuit... I can’t play lawsuits on my console.
