Sony need to turn this into a regular series with multiple game genres/styles and make Astro their Mario.

I don't think you can really use 'lots of PC gamers like 1440p' as an excuse for this. Those people are also gaming on 1440p native monitors... anyone gaming on a 4K TV won't have the capability to render at 1440p natively (nor does the PS5 support 1440p output), they will have upscaled output to 4K, and yes, the difference between 1440p upscaled to 4K and native 4K is noticeable. We aren't talking about 1800p+ checkerboarding here.

This effectively mean...

Hopefully this means we might get proper PS1/2/3 emulation on PS5... but I also know 99% of patents filed don't evolve to be anything, so I won't hold my breath.

These games were just spectacular. I must've played REmake tens of times on my Gamecube back in the day. And I remember blowing a lot of my allowance to rent RE1 on PS1 from Blockbuster... that game was tough as a kid!

Super hyped for more Oddworld - and it's free (for PS+ subscribers) which is even better!

Little bit disappointed that it isn't higher res - I was expecting 4k60 for this game, but super glad its 60 at least, that is essential for platforming. 30fps on the PS4 version is kinda brutal though.

@fastantelope It doesn't sound like we are disagreeing, more so that we're saying the same thing.

Yes, as a result of the acquisition those games likely won't be on PS/Switch because that would be counter to boosting your own platform/services, but weakening other platforms itself clearly wasn't the motivator, the motivator in an acquisition is boosting your own platforms hardware/subscriptions. But yes, some other platforms may be affected in those acquisit...

@fastantelope Incorrect. What I said was companies look at things strategically.

"Buying Zenimax allows us to have more first party titles on our platform and therefore sell more Game Pass"
"Acquiring EVO allows us to have greater visibility for our products in the e-sports market"

No one in a corporate boardroom sits down and says:
"Lets acquire Zenimax to hurt Sony and Playstation gamers!"
"L...

@enkiduxiv You obviously have to compare comparable things, you can't compare physical hardware vs a service, not to mention physical hardware which is heavily established vs a new service...

Realistically you can only compare XCloud/GP to PSNow, Google Stadia, Amazon Luna and GeForce Now - and MS is leading the pack there in terms of subscribers. 18 million subscriptions in 3 years for a brand new service, and a service type that consumers aren't used to yet, is gr...

I didn’t like Resistance. I’d rather they revived Killzone!

Bit of a stretch to claim Disney copied Sony but okay. Also Sony weren’t the first to use “plus” as a brand.

@neutralgamer1992 “Sony doesn't mind spending 15 to 20 billion dollars if push comes to serve.”

Based upon what? Sony have never even spent 5 billion dollars on an acquisition (and the only billion dollar plus acquisitions were movie studios / services or music companies) and their current market cap is 134 billion so that would be making an acquisition of 10-15% the value of their market cap.

Sony doesn’t have tons of cash sitting in the bank and the...

@Razzer I'm basing it on past experience. I've worked at companies that have launched subscription services for their entertainment products. The profitability on subscriptions is very high, typically 80-95%, even more so for users who subscribe and don't play/watch much. Typically the high activity users who consume a lot of content are your more expensive users, likely even negative profitability, but the majority of users end up consuming little enough amounts that they're ...

@nfrog Yes, clearly 'buying something for business/revenue reasons' is a dumber theory than 'They bought an e-sports competition to ban Xbox!'. Have you listened to yourself?

They would indeed make more revenue by selling on multiple platforms - but again, this is where business comes into play. They need to make sure Game Pass is appealing to users, and one way to do that is to make Zenimax games exclusive to Xbox and in Game Pass.

@waverider And people did that on Netflix back in the day... some people still do constant trials today or account share... Netflix isn't exactly struggling.

"Do you think that games on gamepass are free? you think that 3rd party studios put there the games for free?"

Are movies & TV shows free? Nope, but somehow Netflix is still in business (unlike Blockbuster) and bigger than ever.

The 2.2m number is on Sony, if they want to get serious about subscriptions they can do things to drive those numbers up (e.g. putting 1st party games in the sub). Subscriptions are typically substantially higher pro...

"The biggest diference is that Netflix got almost 200 millions subscribers and none pays one buck to get the service"

Err, in the early Netflix days they were giving away free trials constantly and cheap entry level pricing... that's how you get people into new services. Now people are happily paying $10-20 for Netflix.

They may not have 200 million subs, but 18 mil in 3 years is a pretty good number. PSNow got 2.2 mil in 7 years.

@nfrog You need to compare similar services, obviously. You can't just pick two different product types because the numbers fit your narrative.

PS+ is equivalent to Xbox Live, not GamePass/XCloud. Xbox Live has 90m active users, and tens of millions of gold subscribers.

I agree I'd like to see 2021 numbers for PSNow, I'm sure it'll have gone up - but it obviously won't be close to 18m.

@nfrog Again, for business reasons. They clearly didn't think "Lets go out and spend 7.5bn dollars so PS gamers don't get Zenimax games". It's more "Lets go out and spend 7.5bn so we get revenue from these games, own the IP's and add value to our platform".

Companies don't think in the same way as fanboys.
