Gamers typically have a very short attention span, so by the time the award selections come, most gamers will have forgotten about Mass Effect 2 and will pick whatever game they are currently playing as "Game of the year". That's not to say Mass Effect 2 doesn't deserve any recognition, as it is clearly a fantastic game. I'm afraid it just came out at the wrong time if it wants to be selected for meaningless "Game of the year" awards.
That is the result of the deferred rendering path used by Unreal 3. There are ways to get around what is normally a hardware limitation with DirectX 9. If they haven't done it yet, I would expect both ATI and Nvidia to offer a work around in a future driver update.
The Microsoft point system simply cannot be defended. If you compare it to PSN or Steam's purchasing system, Microsoft's is a complete scam in comparison. Ever since I purchased my 360 and spent my first money on Xbox Live, I have always had left over and unusable credit on my account.
Unless Microsoft changes their policy, I will have some amount of left over credit on my account forever. The 360 and Xbox Live are both great, but the transaction setup is designed to steal money...
I hope this isn't what CliffyB's tweet was referring to. I would rather have a new game from Epic than some stupid Gears of War themed skins for Lost Planet 2.
That's because the 360 version has 6 organizations with Xbox in their name, 4 of which gave perfect scores. The PC version is clearly the superior version regardless of what Official Xbox Magazine and all it's variations do to inflate 360's Metascore.
Actually, it'll probably be native 720p as Bungie will likely drop FP16 in favor of a more 360 friendly alternative like FP10 or R11G11B10.
It's hilarious how many people don't understand that disc space has nothing to do with rendering resolution.
The 360 is unable to handle 1080p due to the size of the dedicated 10MB eDRAM frame buffer, so memory tiling has to be used to achieve a higher rendering resolution, which hurts performance considerably. On the PS3 the fill rate of the 8 ROPs simply isn't high enough to handle 1080p with anti-aliasing.
720p is pretty much the best both consoles are capable o...
If Reach came in September and Gears of War 3 came in November it really wouldn't be a big deal. I'm sure that with 2 months in between them, plenty of people would be willing to pick up both titles.
I don't think this being his 360th tweet was an accident. I would prefer it if they saved Gears of War 3 for the neXtBOX as a kickass launch title, but if the next machine isn't coming for another 3 years, I can't blame them for wanting to get another title on the 360.
Having a major game like Halo Reach support Natal in any form will help push Natal sales. It's likely that Natal support will actually be pretty limited, but will be used to supplement the standard controller to show off what a camera can add to the game play experience.
Honestly, an 8/10 is a good score, especially from a site like Destructoid. I thought this game was going to get crushed under the weight of Zipper's lofty ambitions. If the game continues to receive scores like this I'll have to give it another look.
Yeah, I thought it was a bit too long as well. I usually dislike long commercials for games as I always feel that they're a bit silly. They try and boil down too much story and plot into a minute or two of time which really isn't possible for an RPG like Mass Effect.
Another reason I do not like ads for games comes from the fact that it is that the advertisement is a non-interactive medium. When you remove the interactivity from games, and try to advertise story, games simply are...
I personally think that this is an insult to Mass Effect as I found Avatar to be extremely generic with nice effects. I would rather Mass Effect 2 be the Hurt Locker of video games. :)
The original Alien vs Predator released in 1994 on the Atari Jaguar, and was made by Rebellion 5 years before the PC version came out. I don't know why they try to forget the REAL original game, as it was one of the better titles on the Jaguar.
What I don't understand is why they even feel the need to include SecuRom on the Steam version. Steam on its own acts as a form of DRM, one that is more secure and less invasive than SecuRom. Also, why aren't they using Steamworks instead of Windows Live?
You aren't the only one.
Killzone 2 definitely had better graphics in single player, but Halo 3 had more features like local multi-player. Both games are great and multi-console owners should really have both games in their collection. I will probably be buying both Halo Reach and Killzone 3.
I'm a little confused as to how anyone has been able to pass judgment on how good or bad this game will look based on those low quality magazine scans.
I wish they had done that when I was in school.
It's a little disappointing too that it's only running a 1GHz ARM based CPU. It might be a little faster than the current 1GHz Snapdragon in the Nexus One, but likely not by a huge margin. It's also pathetic that this thing still does not support flash.
They say it can play HD video, but so can Snapdragon powered devices and other portables like the Tegra powered Zune HD. These devices are also a fraction of iPad's size.
Frankly, I'd rather have an iPhone with a high...
