PhysX is absolute garbage as it is a proprietary API that does not allow for half of the PC gaming market to take advantage of its features.

A much better solution would be something based on OpenCL or DirectCompute, but since the PC market is currently so fragmented developers will continue to take money from Nvidia to support their inferior and overpriced hardware.

There was talk about Microsoft creating an extension to DirectX that would include a GPU antagonist...

Enjoy not being able to multi-task with your iPhone OS. Also, I could never go back from my current phone's 854x480 display to the pathetic 480x320 screen on the iPhone.

The RROD and other 360 failures are definitely more common, but fat PS3 units definitely are not as reliable as some fanboys would have you believe.

Nearly all of my 60GB friends have experienced the YLOD. I myself have suffered through a dead Blu-ray drive(covered by 1 year warranty), and then later the YLOD on my 40GB PS3. I recently replaced my broken PS3 with a Slim, so hopefully I won't experience any more hardware headaches.

Out of my 3 current gen consoles, th...

Sony owns Team ICO, Polyphony Digital, Naughty Dog, Santa Monica Studio, Zipper, Media Molecule, Guerrilla Games, and a few other developers. They most certainly CANNOT develop for whatever platform they choose as Sony owns them entirely.

Now, if they really wanted to they could buy themselves out from Sony like Bungie did with Microsoft, but until they do that they're stuck with Sony platforms.

On topic: based on the early benchmarks for the GTX 480 that I've been...

Source does not use soft shadows, it doesn't even support true dynamic lighting. When episode 2 came out they added self-shadowing but it was only used for the protagonist's flashlight, and they use a form of stencil based shadows that have artificially softened edges. True soft shadows are supposed to calculate the effect ambient light has on shadows.

The only game I can think of that even does a close to accurate representation of real soft shadows is Crysis, and it still suffe...

Hard drives are sold as 1GB = 1000MB when in reality 1GB is 1024MB based on the binary definition. When you pair that with the format and whatever reserved space the 360 requires, 293GB sounds about right for a 320GB drive.

There was a story to spoil in Gears of War 2?

No, it started with Crash Bandicoot!

That's what I was wondering. Was there a leak or something? I unfortunately saw the spoiler, but that won't stop me from enjoying the game when it comes out.

It should be up to the user to decide if they want to listen to the game's original soundtrack, or their own music. Say I'm replaying the game for trophies, why should I not be allowed to listen to my own music?

I would totally use Firefox mobile on my Android smartphone.

Of course the PS3 CAN do custom soundtracks, most games just don't support it. I only have a few that do, and it kind of disappoints me. Sony really should have made it a requirement for all new games alongside trophies in 2009.

I really hope Gran Turismo 5 follows in the footsteps of God of War 3 and uses MLAA. By removing conventional anti-aliasing, they'll likely save enough pixel fillrate to enable the game to run at a native resolution of 1920x1080 instead of 1280x1080 with 2xAA like Prologue.

F.E.A.R. was one of my favorite shooters of the last decade, but the sequel did not impress me at all. The PC version was one of the first games to really take advantage of pixel shaders when it released in 2005. I played through the campaign probably half a dozen times. The AI was simply fantastic for the time. In fact, I'd say it's still better than the majority of first person shooters out today.

Splinter Cell: Conviction runs on Unreal 2.5, not Unreal 3. The demo didn't exactly thrill me, but I'll still check out the final game. Demos don't always represent the final game well.

I know that feeling. I've had my 5870 since late September and there are still no good DirectX 11 games to take advantage of it.

The reason game piracy does not currently exist on the PS3 has nothing to do with Blu-ray.

I recently purchased a 500GB 7200RPM hard drive for my PS3 and it was only $90 shipped. I must admit though, $130 for a 250GB hard drive is actually cheaper than I expected from Microsoft. I don't think I will be upgrading as the 120GB I already have on my Elite is more than large enough for me.

I'm normally not a huge fan of hack and slash games like God of War, but I recently purchased God of War 3 and I do not regret it one bit. A friend showed me the game on his 42" Plasma and I just had to buy it that night. I don't know if I would say it's better looking than Uncharted 2 overall, but some parts of the game definitely blew away my expectations.

The Dreamcast was more developer friendly than the PS2 enabling it to have better looking games when they competed, but it did have less RAM and overall theoretical performance was lower.

In the long run the PS2 ended up having some better looking games with titles like God of War 2, but the Dreamcast was really no slouch considering it first hit store shelves in 1998.

Yeah, it is a shame too. I already have a 120GB hard drive on my Elite so I'm not exactly pressed for space, but I recently purchased a 500GB 7200RPM drive to replace the old 200GB in my PS3 for only $90 shipped. It makes me hope that Microsoft will eventually follow suit and allow users to install any 3rd party SATA hard drive.
