Well, Microsoft doesn't really need Gears of War 3 next year with Halo Reach and Alan Wake coming out. I think it would be pretty smart of Microsoft to save Gears of War 3 for the Xbox 720 or whatever they name it. Good launch titles are rare, and I know I'd definitely be more interested in an Xbox 720 if it was launching with Gears of War 3.

Counterstrike Source came out in 2004.

That PS3 figure is so grossly exaggerated it's not even funny, and the ATI one is exaggerated as well. ATI is still using their super scalar shader architecture so hitting their peak number of instructions per clock cycle per shader is very difficult, which is what they used for their multi-teraflop performance estimate.

When talking about OpenCL or CUDA like development, it is even less likely that performance can really be utilized. Folding@Home would still be insanely fast on...

They aren't really comparable when you bring the CPU into the equation though. That's like saying that the 4870 is faster than the Core i7 975, despite the fact that they perform different functions.

If you're comparing GPU performance alone, 8800GTX was already 3x+ faster than the G71 based "RSX" and the R500 "Xenos" back in late 2006.

It looks like the 5870 is basically two Radeon 4890s on the same die, sharing a memory controller. It is a much smarter design than your typical dual GPU solution since it behaves as a single GPU. Let's hope Nvidia releases something competitive so prices are low!

This will have no effect on the PS3, and likely will have little effect on the 360 other than it gives developers a bit more flexibility. Gears of War 3 will likely still be 720p as the last two titles were, however this now relieves some pressure from the smaller developers to get the most out of the Xbox 360 hardware.

Otherwise this doesn't change anything as these "guidelines" were not enforced many times on the 360 prior to the policy change anyways. Halo 3, Call o...

Plasmas suffer from input lag just like LCDs, they just have MUCH better response times(like 0.01ms), so you won't experience any ghosting.

SEGA should remake Shenmue instead, or actually do Shenmue 3 for PS3/360.

Crysis does not deserve #1 as they just place alpha textures on top of their ocean to "simulate" water interaction. Gears of War 2 should have been included as it has probably the best water ripples I've seen in a game so far. That said, Crysis still belongs in the top 5 due to how good the ocean looks when you aren't trying to interact with it.

The reason the load times differ so much is due to Killzone 2's use of the hard drive. Data is cached to the drive, so load times vary wildly depending on how recently that section of the game was played, as well as what other cached data can be reused.

Halo 3 on the 360 does the same thing if a hard drive is present. Load a multi-player or single player level that has not been played in months, and compare its load time to a level you play regularly.

The only way t...

I only by used games if it is something that is out of production and can no longer be found new. When that is the case I usually go to my local independent game store that carries new and retro games/systems, as well as ebay.

While the guys at my local Gamestop are actually pretty cool, I still make sure to only purchase new, sealed games when I go there. I'd rather give the extra money to Naughty Dog, Bungie, Rockstar, etc than Gamestop.

You can activate PSN games on 5 consoles at a time(however a few games require you to be logged in to play such as Gran Turismo 5: Prologue and Warhawk).

On topic: I was actually under the impression the YLOD was caused by the Cell, not the RSX. Still, hardware failure on any console sucks. Both my 360 and PS3 have broken before(RROD and failed Blu-ray drive), but they were also fixed under warranty so it all worked out in the end.

Nintendo's business model has always differed from Microsoft's or Sony's. They sell their hardware for a profit ALWAYS, even at the beginning of a console generation.

Microsoft and Sony on the other hand sell their hardware for a loss, and then make the difference and hopefully more with the sale of accessories and games. Sure later in these console life cycles the manage to sell some hardware for a profit, but by the time they do it is typically pretty old and cheap anyways.

Microsoft doesn't have to do a "fall update" sized package to increase the maximum hard drive size. They get their fair share of small updates just as the PS3 does. I like the idea of the console coming with multiple controllers too.

I own 4 controllers for all of my 4 player consoles(N64, Dreamcast, Gamecube, 360, PS3, and Wii) so if the console comes with more than one packed in, right on. It's always a shame you don't get this kind of deal when the console launches ...

I was hoping this would be the case. I understand Microsoft, or Sony for that matter not wanting broken street dates, but punishing the customer who just forked over $60 for your game would be counter productive. Perhaps they won't ship copies as early as they clearly did with Halo: ODST in the future.

Don't forget that your 360 automatically records the date and time achievements are unlocked, so in theory they could ban you after the game released even if you never were signed in when you played it before release date.

With that said, I don't think Microsoft will ban you based on your achievements, and they would be very foolish to ban you at all for playing a game early. This isn't like the Halo 3 Epsilon beta where users found an exploit to get in; these are people who went...

The PS3's GPU does support 2xAA, 4xAA, and it should technically support 8xAA as Geforce 7 did, although performance would be awful. Nvidia's 2x quincunx anti-aliasing was a custom anti-aliasing method that was meant to give the quality of 4xAA with the performance of 2xAA, but in reality is just blurred the image.

It was never popular on the PC and Nvidia actually removed support for it completely with Geforce 8 series, probably because it was crap, and the fact that the 8800GTX...
