I purchased Call of Pripyat on Steam and was very disappointed with how the game looked at the highest settings in DirectX 11. I'm sure mods will change the look of the game drastically like the previous titles, but without them the game is quite ugly even on the highest settings.
Metro 2033 looks like it should be a pretty impressive looking game on the PC though, which is a good sign.
For a moment there I thought you were serious. I can't wait to try out Crysis 2 on my 5870.
Sure Xenos might have more memory available if you're taking it away from the CPU, but the 360's CPU and GPU share a memory bus. On the PS3 the GPU and CPU have independent memory buses, so CPU memory read and write speeds aren't affected when the GPU also needs access to memory. Also, the 360's 10MB of eDRAM is as much of a limitation as it is a benefit. In fact, it is the reason Halo 3 and Halo 3:ODST run at 1152x640 instead of native 720p.
The 360's GPU does not support alpha...
You're either a hilarious troll, or a severely uniformed fanboy.
Compared to GPUs today with unified shaders, G71 is pretty dated. The 360 however does not have unified shaders as you would see on modern Nvidia and ATI GPUs. They do not support geometry shading, OpenCL, DirectCompute, or any other compute shader function. There are also only 48 unified shaders on the R500(Xenos) compared to 24 discrete pixel shaders and 8 vertex shaders on G71(RSX).
Most of the differences you get from multi-platform titles likely comes from the use of OpenGL...
Valve is not going to license any new engine regardless of how it performs on multiple platforms.
Still, anything to alleviate multi-platform development woes while replacing Unreal3 is a good thing.
I like how the representative from Nvidia talks about how they use CUDA, PhysX, DirectCompute, and DirectX 11. Why would you use CUDA and DirectCompute at the same time, as they provide the exact same features? What is the point of using PhysX as it merely runs in CUDA anyway? If they really wanted to show off what Fermi can do, they should have written a software based render pipeline instead of using DirectX 11.
Crytek doesn't have the time or the inclination to make the PS3 version as good looking as possible the way a first party studio like Naughty Dog or Guerrilla Games does.
The PC version on the other hand should look quite a bit better than anything else out on any platform.
I'm a little concerned about the lack of multi-tasking support. If Android and WebOS can do it, why can't Windows Mobile 7?
Both versions are amongst the worst looking games on their respective platforms. The people who enjoyed this title on the 360 or were looking forward to the PS3 version likely don't care about the graphics anyways.
Yeah, Metal Gear Solid is definitely the more popular franchise. I hope Uncharted 2 is able to do as well as MGS4 or even better. In my opinion Uncharted 2 is the better game, but both titles are definitely worth owning.
I'm not sure how people missed the obvious sarcasm.
Okay, calling it a Call of Duty imitator may have been a bit unfair, but the game simply feels like a step backwards after having played Battlefield 2 for years. Quasi-destructible environments don't do it for me when every other aspect of the game is inferior to their previous PC installments.
Isn't this in the same issue where they give Battlefield: Bad Company 2 a 9.5? Funny how they would award a game that is trying so desperately to be like Call of Duty such a high score. I personally was turned off by the Bad Company 2 demo and enjoyed the PC AvP demo quite a bit, but I suppose we'll have to wait for more reviews and the final game.
@ 3.3
Yeah, I thought the graphics were absolutely awful on the console versions of Bad Company 2 due to the lack of anti-alia...
Wow, they don't have the original Doom, Unreal Tournament, Quake 1, or Quake 2 on the list? What about Blood? Duke Nukem? F.E.A.R.? They put a bunch of mediocre current gen multi-platform titles on the list but excluded some of the greatest PC games of all time.
Sure they also had a lot of good picks, but it bothers me that a title like Street Fighter 4 is in the list, one that was ported to the PC months after the console versions released. The fighting genre isn't the least bi...
Yeah, the PC version runs very well even on the highest available settings, and the game actually looks great considering the demo is DirectX 9 only. The console versions on the other hand look pretty even based on the screen shots and the performance I experienced on the 360 demo was nothing but desirable.
I haven't had the chance to play the PS3 demo yet as the matchmaking was not working for me, but if it runs like the 360 version does then I'd say Rebellion deserves some cre...
Isn't it interesting that film sequels typically get hammered for being unoriginal, but the same rule does not apply to games? The game reviewing industry for the most part is very immature. Scores are based on the popularity of the franchise, not just the quality of the game. I don't wish to imply that good games get rated poorly or that highly rated games are actually bad, but that good games typically receive inflated scores based on the hype surrounding said product.
An HD version of Stalker?... Since when was the original or Clear Sky not in "HD"?
You are automatically awarded "Let Sleeping Rockstars Lie" for getting any kill in Deathmatch mode on the PS3. My guess is this was due to the trophy patch coming long after the game had been out, and that Rockstar had no intention of having staff play the PS3 version online, as they did with the 360 version at launch.
I do not remember any excitement surrounding this game. The first I had heard of it was the demo on Xbox Live, and that was enough for me to decide to steer clear of this title.
