You do realize you're posting on N4G, right? That kind of logic usually isn't found here. :)
I don't understand the need to compare these two games as they are not all that similar. Both games are great and both deserved to be played by every gamer.
I'll be downloading all three versions as well. Clearly the PC version will look the best, but I'm curious as to how the console versions will turn out.
I'm really hoping the PC version of Mafia 2 is as great as they've been hyping. Hopefully it'll put the terrible GTA IV PC port to shame.
Valve is allowed to decide what platform they put their games on seeing as they are a completely independent studio. EA doesn't even publish their games; they are merely the distributor of their physical copies, so their cut is not as large as it would be if they actually published the titles.
Bioware on the other hand is actually owned by EA, and they have already released a title for the PS3.
If you clicked the link you would see that the list of upcoming content was simply published 4 days early. The update will be on Thursday as it always is.
So your solution to Blu-ray read speed issues is to make textures take up even more disc space?...
If Blu-ray read speeds were really an issue, Bioware could simply add a 3-5GB install as other developers have done in the past. I think that would be more than worth it for PS3 owners if it meant getting a chance to play these great RPGs.
I do.
Some older HDTVs (usually pre-HDMI models) only support 480p and 1080i. The PS3 does not have dedicated hardware like HANA in the Xbox 360 to handle upscaling, so developers must manually add 1080i support if they don't want to alienate some HDTV owners.
There is no chance that Crysis 2 will be the best looking title on the PS3, and it's also unlikely it'll be the best looking title for the 360.
The PC version on the other hand should look better than any game out on any platform. Crytek simply does not have the time or resources to optimize their title for consoles the way a developer like Naughty Dog or Bungie does, as they work exclusively on a single platform.
How about we get the first game out before we start talking about sequels, okay? I've been waiting years for Alan Wake and talk about a sequel this early is kind of frustrating.
Except for the fact that the iPad doesn't have a camera. ;)
I was in the PS3 closed beta a few months back and it did not look nearly as good as Killzone 2. Keep in mind though that this is a multi-platform title with a shorter development cycle. It also likely has a much smaller development budget.
The PC version on the highest detail settings should look quite a bit better than the other two versions.
Yeah, I do find it pretty funny that they cite a game that is running on a modified version of id tech 3 at 1024x600 on both the PS3 and 360 as "photo-realistic", when there are much better looking games on both platforms.
On Topic: Sure there is a lot of shovelware on the Wii, but Nintendo's first party software is almost always fantastic. None of the current generation consoles "suck" regardless of what fanboys say.
How exactly do you plan to run PowerPC or x86 based OSX on a device with an ARM processor?
The PS3 and 360 are actually pretty similar in power and suffer from many of the same limitations. Neither console is really capable of handling resolutions higher than 720p.
@ HDgamer
Halo 3 and ODST run at 1152x640 due to frame buffer limitations. The 360's GPU doesn't support alpha blending with FP16 anyway which is likely the reason they decided to use two render paths. Halo Reach will likely run at 720p as it'll probably use FP10 or R11G11B10 instead of FP16.
@ tdrules
Yeah, Goldeneye is unplayable by today's standards due to the awful frame rate.
With your response it looks like you might belong there as well. What does Mass Effect 2 or MAG have to do with Halo Reach anyway? They're hardly comparable games, even if the general consensus is that Mass Effect 2 is the better game.
So it'll only last a year or so? ;)
I was able to connect on the PC and 360 version, but the PS3 version's matchmaking did not seem to work properly. I actually enjoyed this demo quite a bit on the PC. DirectX 11 isn't in the demo, but the game still looked and ran great on the highest available settings.
