I cannot believe this topic is still going on. There has been no real confirmation of Alan Wake being 720p. In fact, the evidence presented supports the earlier claim of the game running at 960x547.

This image was not taken from the highly compressed 960x540 video. The game is rendered at 960x547 while the HUD rendered natively at 720p. Just look at how sharp the HUD is in comparison to the rest of the image.

Because CPU performance does not improve your GPU's pixel fill rate.

Core i7 is an extremely fast line of CPUs, but comparing it to the IBM Cell doesn't make a lot of sense as they really aren't very similar. You're comparing an out of order CISC based x86 CPU with 4 physical cores each with hyper-threading to an in-order RISC based PowerPC CPU that has 1 PPE and 7 SPEs.

I wouldn't be that surprised if the Cell could perform better in some scientific applications, bu...

Uncharted 2 runs at 1280x720 with 2xAA, Killzone 2 runs at 1280x720 with 2x QAA, and God of War 3 runs at 1280x720 with MLAA. These resolutions are pulled from Beyond3D, not the input resolution the TV is receiving. The reason Killzone 2 often appears blurrier than these other games is that Quincunx is notorious for blurring the entire frame as a way to achieve a 4x AA equivalent with the performance of 2xAA. Nvidia discontinued support for it when Geforce 8 released.

I hope this is true despite it being a little hard to believe. Getting it to run at 1280x720 with 4xAA will be a miracle due to the number of tiles needed and what those titles will do to the fill rate. Who knows though, if any game on the 360 can do it, it'll probably be Alan Wake.

The rendering resolution has nothing to do with DVD vs Blu-ray. The fact that the 360's 10MB of eDRAM isn't large enough to hold a 720p frame with 2xAA normally, let alone one with 4xAA means they'd have to use a lot of memory tiling which hurts the fill rate drastically.

It pisses me off so much. My 5870 is just waiting for something bleeding edge to take advantage of it. The original PC build of Alan Wake could have rivaled or even surpassed Crysis. :(

I hope this isn't true, but if it turns out to be, I won't really be surprised. When Remedy said that the game was going to use 4xAA I feared it would have to be sub-720p as the amount of memory tiling required for that large of a frame buffer would destroy the 360's fill rate. Still, it does suck a lot actually because I've been waiting years for this game. I guess Uncharted 2 or God of War 3 will remain the best looking console game for awhile.

But the YLOD is actually pretty common, where as the 8800GTX was no less reliable than your typical high-end video card.

Pirating games on the Dreamcast is extremely easy and the system was much easier to develop for than the PS2.

You know, I've always wondered that too. My guess is they were using X1900s in Crossfire, as the 8800GTX wasn't even out when they first started showing playable versions of Crysis. Closer to release they were probably using 8800GTXs in SLI, but that is really just a guess.

I'm doubtful that even with the right software, this CPU would be capable of emulating the PS3's overly complex hardware. The 360 will probably be emulated first, but even that is still years away. By the time PS3 and 360 emulators are feasible, the next generation of consoles will be out and this CPU will be considered old.

Simply amazing; this is the only known complete copy of the game in existence. Frankly, I'm kind of surprised it didn't sell for more.

I'm sure Crysis 2 will be a fun game, but I'm a little confused as to what makes Crytek think they're now the authority on game storytelling. Neither Far Cry or Crysis had much of a story.

Well, there were a few HDTVs available in the late 90s but they were extremely expensive.

The 3DO was really not that bad of a system; it's biggest flaw was the exorbitant price.

As to their list, the TurboExpress would have been awesome were it not for the terrible battery life.

I already own all 3 previous Gears of War releases(Gears 1 & 2 on 360 and Gears 1 on PC), so I'll probably end up buying this. Right now I'm not that excited, but I imagine when they actually start showing the game my excitement will grow.

My Elite recently got the RROD for the second time but was still covered under warranty. The call was quick and easy, and they emailed me a pre-paid shipping label roughly 15 minutes after the phone call. I kind of wish they still shipped boxes for the console, but it was probably increasing the cost of the repair process drastically.

Woah now, the WonderSwan was really not that bad of a system. It only required 1 AA and had some pretty decent Final Fantasy ports years before the Gameboy, albeit in Japanese only. Sadly it was the last system designed by Gunpei Yokoi before his death.

Well the demo wasn't exactly fantastic, so it's understandable some people were having second thoughts. It's looking like it must have turned out fine though which is a good thing.

My 360 Elite got the RROD this morning so I'll have to wait for my replacement before I can try Conviction. I didn't like the demo too much, but perhaps the final game is a lot better.
