I'm getting really annoyed at satire articles being near-indistinguishable upon first glance from news.
Can people start putting a "(satire)" bracket before headlines/text or something?
Perhaps some form of shortened uniform code "(st)" would be more appropriate for adding to the actual title of an article?
I completely agree with the article.
You pay a premium for a disc for the freedom to resell and the privilege of owning a box and manual, almost like how hardback books come with thicker covers which make them more bookshelf-worthy.
Steam, and digital downloads are there so that you can buy a license to use a game and forgo the right to resell it, lend it to a friend or own it in the physical world. This allows online stores like Steam to sell it at a very lo...
The relative price of MMO's will go up, as they are not for resale. Also, games like Bioshock which are awesome but not very replayable will be heavily resold, and so will become unprofitable to release on PC. I suppose replayable single-player games like Skyrim will be less affected, but there are very good shorter games which will suffer.
This will help F2P, MMO's and other types of online multiplayer games, but is going to cripple single-player games out of existe...
If we become able to resell our steam games then kiss sales goodbye. The only reason games are able to go so cheap is that there are few digital suppliers and resale is difficult with PC games anyway.
Once people start flooding the market with games for sale, prices will go right down to around 40p/70c and so Valve will have no choice but to raise prices in future.
No joke this could literally kill steam, by driving its prices up to origin level.
The ruling is...
I loved the premise of the game, as historical games aren't nearly as common as they should be and Rome is awesome, but it seems to just be a button masher with awesome graphics. The gameplay actually reminded me a fair bit of Viking: Battle for Asgard, but obviously with far better effects.
It really should have done something innovative if it wanted to really succeed. Right now it appears to have zero replayability. Why not have some form of mission randomiser? Perhaps accompani...
Look at his moustache. He's clearly an evil villain trying to deceive us.
I don't see how always online can benefit a user who only wants single player and has enough hardware to run high-spec games.
Microsoft plot to make people hate W7 so they will upgrade to W8. Sneaky.
It is inevitable that the universe will end. It is inevitable that the sun will rise tomorrow. It is inevitable that some day, all of us who post on this forum will die.
What is not inevitable is human progression, and how the games industry progresses as a result.
If we don't want multiplayer games we don't buy them, and the industry changes tune. Businesses adapt to consumer demands, and not the other way around.
We all need to start taking responsibility and...
+1
I've never had a multiplayer game touch me in the same way many single-player experiences have done. If the games industry is to ever become focused on deep artistic works which move us then we absolutely must ditch arcadey multiplayer experiences.
Having said that, competition creates money for publishers/developers, and multiplayer games always create competition. We all know that cash seems to be the sole incentive of the games industry these days. ...
Pah, they never get it do they? Many people play games to be extraordinary, and when other players surround you, you can only ever be ordinary unless you put in months of practice. Not only that, but other players don't move and use tactics which match the setting, even though they may be more successful.
The future is NOT multiplayer, but highly advanced AI which allows us to create believable personalities within a universe which are OF that universe.
I mean, how can you...
Ah, I was unaware of that crash before. I doubt it could happen in the modern day though.
With the internet, aggregated reviews are freely available while digital download companies allow for a wider selection, making purchasing mistakes unlikely for most.
Plus, id aren't going to make any abominations; the worst they do will just be mediocre.
You wish a games company would stop making games because the last one they made was mediocre? And do what, Just close down and make no games?
I'd rather have a company make an abomination like E.T. The Extra Terrestrial than make nothing at all because games>no games.
Well, destroy would have to be canon, given the number of players who chose it, and how well it opens up possibilities (the reapers have to go unless they will play a huge role in the story) but there could be an explanation for those who chose control ie. the Reapers disappeared (to return when the galaxy needs them the most - almost like King Arthur on Avalon. They could even play a part in the end of this next group of games, similar to warscore, or even add a new ending to ME6/whatever th...
Agreed. It would be great if we get to explore more of the galaxy on foot.
If all of this new game takes place before ME3 there's going to be uproar. Nobody wants to play the prequel to a universe which gets FUBAR.
Personally, I'd like to see a story set 100 years after ME3, as humanity discovers a unique resource deep in the Earth (not present on other alien worlds) which allows them to build warp drives (invalidating the need for relays).
It would be awesome to be the first ship venturing into a galaxy long forgotten to see what ha...
I completely agree that gamers need to do more to encourage friendly and respectful treatment of women in multiplayer games. That goes without saying, and misogynistic attitudes are totally unwelcome and must make females feel unfairly awkward and possibly even saddened just for playing the games they purchase. The onus is on all of us to condemn those who make such attacks.
As for women getting jobs in the industry, I'd like to think that employment policies are fair and gender-n...
Yet more evidence that Microsoft are heading in a more casual direction. I don't think hardcore gamers will get much out of the Xbone beyond release, given the heavy kinect focus.
Meh. When the FFXV third person shooter and sequels fail, Square will finally go bust and let some other studio which actually cares what fans think buy and continue the series, and make remakes.
That would cause problems though. If the Rift is genuinely free, with no strings attached then every man and his dog will want one. People who aren't interested will grab the device, just because something is better than nothing.
Not only that but the money from devs buying the SKU will be far too small to subsidise anything. The Rift is in early days and has a weak bargaining position, seeing as it is (in the eyes of the corporates) still seen as a huge gamble. Oculus wi...
I'd rather have single player games with DLC which expands game content (not like ME3 Javik) than an endless stream of F2P multiplayer games with microtransactions.
