The whole idea of the Switch was the ability to be a portable and a console device. Removing the dock would effectively make the device a portable which may not be all that attractive to many people especially when you consider that the 3DS is cheaper, has more software and is much more conveniently portable.

All companies would like to keep the failure rate of their product as low as possible so even if Nintendo allowed for a failure rate of 0.5% that would mean they would need to have at least 10,000 available for replacement out of 2,000,000 devices sold which are considerable.

Normally a failed device can be repaired so this is another option which can reduce dramatically the necessity of having replacement stock. Obviously, there would be a policy in place that would allow ...

If you look at SD cards which can vary widely in price per capacity per performance you will see that a 4GB SD card is not that much cheaper than an 8GB or even a 16GB cartridge.

It is not good economics to produce a whole range of different capacity cartridges so it is best to standardize on a few sizes such as 16GB, 32GB and 64GB since the manufacturing process is essentially the same and it so much easier to get a more consistent quality in cost and performance across th...

Comparing the cost of development kits is not really a good measure. I think the development kits for the PS4 are around $2,500 but in reality, this cost pales into insignificance against the overall cost of the game so depending on the game you may find the overall cost saving on a Nintendo Switch game is only a few cents (if that) compared to the same game on a Sony or even Microsoft platform.

Ignoring digital downloads (you need storage to do this) the overall cost of a...

You can save money on digital downloads "only" if you don't pre-order or buy on release and wait for a sale. Sometimes games on media actually drop in price quicker than the same game for digital download, other times it is the other way around. Basically, it is up to the buyer to do their homework or "Caveat emptor" which is a Latin term that means "let the buyer beware."

When a game is brought out in a physical format such as a CD, DVD, ...

At the time of writing, Jim's site is still under attack.

So Nintendo fanatics are not just upset but committing an illegal act (ie. DDoS) to make their point. I can understand a Nintendo fanboy getting upset and voicing their opinion but this is extream. What next "death threats" - oh wait.

Edit: I actually got onto his site and am reading his comments on Zelda BotW and IMHO they are very fair and in no way disparaging on the game. In fact...

Actually, Angry Joe uses a similar scoring where 5/10 is average or mediocre (ie. not bad but OK). 6/10 is above average, 7/10 is good. 8/10 is very good, 9/10 is excellent and 10/10 is legendary although he always points out that 10/10 is not perfect. Joe also gives out a "Bad Ass seal fo approval" on some game even if ones he gives a 9/10 for if he feels that this is a must play the game for most gamers.

A fun fact.

In Dark Souls 2 there is a monument just up from the second bonfire that lists the number of times people that have died since the game went online. If you look at the last two digits of the number then look again you will see that even within a second or two that number has gone up significantly and this is only for people who have an online connection.

Personally, I found the Skyrim horses fairly useless since it was just as easy to walk and on finding a place use fast travel. Fighting on horseback was doable but it was easier to fight on the ground.

Roach, your horse in The Witcher 3 was essential and surprisingly easy to control. Once you were on a path you just had to press "X" (PS4 example) then he would follow it and you only had to use the direction button if you wanted to follow a different path or naviga...

Somehow I don't think being associated with "Alone in the Dark" is a good endorsement especially if you consider the last few games.

If you play The Witcher 3 on either of the first two difficulty settings which are "Just the Story (Easy)" and "Story and Swords! (Normal)" then the game will be a bore fest since you just need to spam the lite and heavy attacks against most enemies. If you play on the harder settings " Blood and Broken Bones! (Hard)" and preferably "Death March! (Very Hard)" then you get a much better experience.

In fact, on "Death March" y...

If you want to really enjoy the game or any game for that matter you will hide the guide and only look at it if you are really stuck or have completed the game and want help finding things you have missed.

Who cares when it all comes down to numbers of games sold Horizon will still sell more than Zelda BotW just by sheer numbers of PS4's compared to Nintentendo Switches and WiiU's and in many ways as far as the developers and publishers are concerned that is more important.

Before Zelda, you had Dungeons and Dragons https://en.wikipedia.org/wi...

Basically, all games that are action/adventure with RPG elements take their basics from the Dungeons and Dragons games and Zelda is no different.

Actually, I wasn't aware that I had to save a princess in the Souls and Bloodborne games. I must have missed something. ԅ...

Here is a nit pick.

In Zelda BothW, look at the trees. Most appear to be a clone of the other or pretty much identical and slightly rotated, now compare that to the vegetation in The Witcher 3 or an old game like Skyrim and yes there is a day/night and weather cycle in those games which can be quite dramatic.

But wait I hear fanboys say Zelda is cartoony compared to photo-realistic types of games. Ok, point taken how about Kingdoms of Amalur which had veg...

Don't know but if you want to try that please let us know. I still have 460GB free on my internal 1TB drive which currently holds over 40 full games some of which are AAA so I am not in a huge hurry to test.

Since the PS4 is going to format your external drive for use with the PS4 the filesystem will most likely be the same type of filesystem that the internal drive uses which would be a Unix journaling filesystem and definitely not readable on a Microsoft Windows opera...

First off you have to purchase a PSVR and a 3D Bluray movie or you just could purchase/rent the 3D movie and output the signal via the PS4's HDMI cable to your 3D capable HDTV.

I still have my original day one PS1 but to play a game I do need to turn it upside down otherwise, the CD won't read properly. That said it is no big deal since the PS2 and all PS3's can read PS1 discs. Of course, if you still have a working original FAT PS3 (I do) you can read and play PS1, PS2 and PS3 games.

Trophy competition is not a good way of determining how far in the game you have progressed. In some games you have to really jump through hoops (ie. multiple playthroughs, oddball quests etc) to get a 100% trophy completion. Most action/adventure and/or RPG games (obviously it depends on the game) can be completed with as little as 15% to 30% trophy completion.

Having chapters in a game can give you a reasonable idea of how far you have progressed in a game providing you k...
