Actually the first time buyer normally gets the best value for money when they can get a bundle that lets them choose one or more games from a reasonable list of similarly priced games.
I have never played Knack however you are definitely entitled to your opinion. I have seen other people playing Knack and IMHO it does look like a fun game but I think I would become bored with it fairly quickly.

In Australia we can get the PS4 + Fifa 15 at AU$549 which translates to 297 British pounds or US$484 at the time of writing. Obviously if you are smart you can look around to get a better deal. I think that depends on what the gamer likes. As you are most likely aware there are many genres such as FPS's, Sports, Action/Adventure, Sims RPG's etc and most people like at least 2 or more of these although rarely will a gamer like all.

I have never seen the point either. I actually got an upgrade to a game which gave me all sorts of stuff, however this made the game far to easy and IMHO no challenge. I very quickly restarted the game without the extra features and found the game was so much more fun to play with that added sense of achievement when you completed a difficult task.
