You have always been able to play the Souls series without being on-line.

The on-line component of the Souls series mainly allows you to get help or be invaded although in the case of Demon Souls the "tendencies" to work properly.

When on-line in Dark Souls one way to stop or reduce getting invaded while still being able to get help is to try and keep your level below 15. Pyromancy is really useful as is weapon and armour upgrading. One or two hits ...

Actually the first time buyer normally gets the best value for money when they can get a bundle that lets them choose one or more games from a reasonable list of similarly priced games.

I have never played Knack however you are definitely entitled to your opinion. I have seen other people playing Knack and IMHO it does look like a fun game but I think I would become bored with it fairly quickly.

As for KZ I have never been a fan of FPS's so I have no real interest there, dito with sports and fighting games. Infamous is IMHO a ok game but even though it is Action/adventure which I do like I still prefer RPG's like Skyrim which is more or less a combin...

Bundles for any console are a means of attracting new customers. I think most people who are considering purchasing say a PS4 as an example would rather purchase a bundle than the console and separate games especially when they can see that they can save money even if that saving is not that much.

Well China has a population of 1.3 billion and if you look at Shanghai (pop 24 million) and Hong Kong (pop 7 million) these two cities alone have first world status which means many people have money to spend.

One of the most important things when selling a gaming console is to have content that is attractive to consumers and in that area Sony and Nintendo excel. This is not to say that Microsoft can't do well however you also have to remember that the Chinese Government ...

I would be very surprised if the next generation console did not support 4k or even 8k gaming, however even looking (gets crystal ball out) ahead say 7 years I seriously doubt that the majority of people are going to discard their 1080p HDTV's for the next gen TV.

Sure you can see the difference if you do a side to side comparison of a 1080p HDTV to a 4k HDTV (assuming the same aspect ratio) and using appropriate content, however that difference is not that significance t...

What you have just said has only reinforces my dislike for on-line only games and this does not just apply to consoles.

The only on-line capable games I have ever liked are the "souls" series and there is no way I am going to purchase a PS4 just for "Elder Scrolls On-line", although I do like "Skyrim" (100+ hours and have hardly touched the main quest much less the add-ons).

You may read the information on a software package however most people don't. It is not much different from reading the Eula when you first boot up a new PC, personally I have always answered "no" and then installed a Linux distribution.

Forcing a digital download IMO is arrogant since that assumes everyone who buys your console has an internet connection. Then again the XB1 was originally envisaged as an internet reliant connected device and it was only when Mi...

Great for you but keep in mind you are very much in the minority since most people in the world don't have access to high speed internet or if they do don't have the budget or interest to get it.

Any business that wants to remain a business has to provide a service or product for as many customers as possible hence the reason in the case of gaming consoles to provide the option of physical copies of the game software.

In Australia we can get the PS4 + Fifa 15 at AU$549 which translates to 297 British pounds or US$484 at the time of writing. Obviously if you are smart you can look around to get a better deal. It must be noted that not everyone likes sports games so other bundles which are available may be more attractive.

Pricing of the XB1 + Fifa 15 is AU$529 minus the Kenect so in reality the basic XB1 is cheaper than the PS4 in Australia.

Note: The prices I am quoting ar...

The PS4 uses Orbis OS (not Linux), which is a fork of FreeBSD version 9.0 which was released on 12 January 2012. FreeBSD has a very permissive license compared to Linux kernel GPL2 license which is more restrictive in comparison in that it requires publication of the source code.

Unfortunately there are quite a few "Cracker" groups that have a tendency to pop up like weeds, so if you take out one another couple pops up in their place.

Sometimes these "Cracker" groups do this for their perverted idea of "fun" or "vengeance" (I think this is what happened here), other times it is for money. Either way it is still a criminal act.

Please note there is a huge difference between the words "Cracke...

I can understand Microsoft getting money from people making a new Minecraft purchase or purchasing downloadable content but "racking up money from Minecraft users"? How else other than what I have just mentioned?

Keep in mind there are quite a few Minecraft clones available and some are almost as functional as the original Minecraft (eg "Minetest" - works natively on all platforms including Linux distributions).

If you look at may last post I did mention "Rings of Power" which IMHO is a surprisingly interesting RPG game in that it was 2.5D which really stressed out the Sega Genesis/Megadrive at the time to the point of it being unplayable. Once you learned to use the auto move feature the game was so much more easier to play.

Remembering that the game came out in 1991 the graphics were quite amazing and you could see there was quite a good deal of attention to detail. It al...

Personally I could not rank them since I have not played all of them. I definitely did like the Uncharted series though.

It is worth noting that if you look at the Naughty Dog Wiki you will see there are three retro games. Those being: "Keef the Thief" (Apple IIGS, Amiga, DOS), then "Rings of Power" (Sega Genesis/Megadrive) and "Way of the Warrior" (3DO - who had one of these?).

Out of which I have only played "Rings of Powe...

You can get "minetest" which is very functionally similar to Minecraft. It (minetest) is free and open-sourced under the LGPL licence and even runs natively under (gasp!) Linux distributions. Of course it also runs under OSX, MS Windows and Android as well.

Have you ever been involved with product design?

Designing a product is not a trivial exercise since you are looking at what is called "lead" time to manufacture and that can be a few years, so you need to take into account what the market will accept a few years in advance and that can seriously impact the choice of the parts.

It is all well and good criticising a product when it comes out but comparing a console (ie PS4, Wii U, XB1) against a PC w...

I think that depends on what the gamer likes. As you are most likely aware there are many genres such as FPS's, Sports, Action/Adventure, Sims RPG's etc and most people like at least 2 or more of these although rarely will a gamer like all.

There are also different gaming camps such as PC, Console, Handheld, Mobile as well as board and pen and paper games to name a few. You will always have a gamer who prefers one or more camps over others and that IMHO is a good thin...

Looking at the next generation consoles from an engineering perspective it takes at the very least one to three years or even more from the initial design phase to the final product so it is fairly obvious that when the product hits the market there is always going to be something better.

Since PC's can easily be upgraded it is no wonder that a top of the line or gaming PC will always outperform the PS4, Wii U or XB1 however this comes at a cost.

As for g...

I have never seen the point either. I actually got an upgrade to a game which gave me all sorts of stuff, however this made the game far to easy and IMHO no challenge. I very quickly restarted the game without the extra features and found the game was so much more fun to play with that added sense of achievement when you completed a difficult task.
