Widescreen TV's have had the ability to adjust the screen to suit the picture for years (well good ones have) however whether you really want a standard definition (aspect ratio 4:3) to fully fit a wide screen TV with an aspect ratio of 16:9 usually requires some compromises such as stretching and/or clipping which can make the picture look really stupid.
Still, if you the reader like a 4:3 aspect ratio video stretched (ie. everyone looks fat) and clipped (loss of infor...
So you want more "Why the XBox1x will succeed" articles to counter the "Why the XBox1x will fail" articles or are you just like me and enjoy the salted popcorn. 🙂
I think the current PS4pro to PS4slim is about 1 in 5 consoles sold (ie. 20%). http://au.ign.com/articles/...
Come November this year when the XB1x releases I would not be surprised if the XB1slim and the PS4slim are around $200 to $250 USD with a selection of attractive (subjective) games. It is also quite possible that the PS4pro will be around the $...
When I saw the demo of Scalebound I was impressed until I heard the cringeworthy DudeBro voice acting.
As per June 2016 there were 20.8 million PlayStation Plus subscribers for its latest financial year https://www.gamespot.com/ar... and while there are 48 million "active" Xbox Live members, though this counts free and paid accounts. Microsoft has not announced how many Xbox Live Gold members it has.
Since the article is over a year old it ...
I would not worry about that since there will most likely be many people that will miss out on getting a mini SNES due to scalping. You only have to take a look at eBay and the console is already being sold at ridiculous prices even though eBay's policy is for people to advertise an item up to one month before it comes out. The mini SNES is about three months from release.
Personally, I would like to be proven wrong but if the mini NES is anything to go by I don't t...
Portability in a console/handheld is nice but at some stage, you are going to scratch it so purchasing and applying a screen protector is the first ting people should think of. If you are "on the go" quite a bit then a case becomes a necessity.
BTW. To think that you would never scratch a portable is effectively delusional since there are so many ways a portable device can be scratched. Of course, give a portable to a kid and the possibility of it being scratched...
You also have to remember that in two to three years 8K displays will be much more affordable although at the moment you do need a powerful graphics card (suggest two 1080 ti's) to effectively drive the current 8K displays.
Why settle for low-resolution 4K when you can get 8K for a small price hit? 🙂
Yes, it is very difficult using a file browser clicking on a link to where your ROM's are then clicking on the ROM you want to play and the operating system automatically selecting the correct emulator to use. Of course, you can always start an emulator and open the last ROM you played or select a different one.
The SNES sold about 49 million worldwide compared to the PS1 (101 million), the PS2 (157 million), the PS3 (87 million) and the PS4 (currently around 60 million...
That is impressive but it is a newly released free game and it will be interesting to see what the player number is like in say three months.
Basically, games fall into genres (eg, FPS, Sports, Action/Adventure, RPG, ... etc) and even within genres, a gamer can be picky. What may have been fantastic a few years ago may be a pixelated or washed out mess today or a rush of nostalgia. It all depends on the player.
Even though the architecture of the two consoles is similar (X86_64) the operating systems are different. Microsoft's console uses Windows 10 with DX12 while Sony's console uses a variant of BSD Unix and OpenGL/Vulcan.
Gaming development tools do allow for cross-platform games although you do have to pay for them. The gaming software suite Unreal 4 is basically free for anyone to use however if you are selling your product made with Unreal 4 you must pay the company...
The current generation consoles (exception Nintendo) have an X86_64 architecture which is what the majority of modern PC's use so it is little wonder that porting is relatively easy.
Not sure since I don't know if Microsoft can count given the following XBox, Xbox360 and XBox1. 🙂
I built my desktop when the latest Intel Skylake chipset released which was about eighteen months ago.
I have not noticed any performance issues with my desktop although I do keep my operating system updated I don't run a Microsoft operating system though preferring Linux instead. When I get updates they don't interfere with what I am currently doing at the time and even when I get an update that requires a reboot (eg. new kernel) I have the choice as to when I rebo...
The PS4 will read DVD's but it won't read CD's and even though the majority of PS2 games came on DVD some did come on CD. Still, if you have a PS3 it will read and play PS1 disks while only the first generation PS3's will play PS2 games.
Actually, Microsoft and Sony did state prior to the release of their respective consoles that they would not be backward compatible so if you had a library of PS2 games you kept your old PS1 or PS2 or purchased the PHAT PS3....
Dual density DVD (ie. DVD9) could only hold 8.5GB. The XBox360 only had a DVD drive and could read dual density DVD's but it never had a Bluray or even an HD-DVD drive although it did have an external HD-DVD drive which was never used for games.
Maximum capacity for the Bluray disks that are used in the PS3, PS4 and XB1 is 25GB (single layer) 50GB (dual layer). Obviously, the UHD Bluray disk is going to be bigger (ie. Triple layer 100GB and Quadruple is 128GB) but to bring out games on those disks is going to alienate the original XB1 owners which are approximately 20+ million people.
Sure it is possible that Microsoft could come out with a UHD Bluray for huge capacity games for XB1s and XB1x owners with two or mor...
If The Witcher 3 GOTY has the "Heart of Stone" as well as "Blood and Wine" then you can effectively shelve playing the other games you mentioned.
I made a big mistake getting TW3, Bloodborne and Dragon Age - Inquisition when I purchased a PS4 and guess which game I have hardly started? Even though I would like to play Shadow of Mordor that is one game I refuse to buy even though I can get it really cheaply and I hope PS+ does not make it a free game anyt...
Therein lies the rub. Unless you have the original games then you either have to borrow or buy them.
Yes, there will be some gamers with a decent library who would welcome backward compatibility but most people won't like buying or repurchasing old games especially if the game is just run through an emulator with little if any graphical improvement.
As an example, all PS3's will play PS1 games with some smoothing, but most people would not have a...
