From the Wiki:

Star Ocean, the first game in the series. It was released on July 19, 1996 for the Super Famicom and never released outside of Japan; however, it was unofficially translated into English through ROM hacking by DeJap Translations, and the resulting game can be played through emulation.

Green parrot and rum optional ;-)

Star Ocean: The Second Story was released for the PlayStation on July 30, 1998, in Japan, May 31, 1999, in Nort...

Well there is always a possibility but consider the information from the following URL: https://en.wikipedia.org/wi...

Basically the Star Ocean series has appeared only on consoles (predominately PlayStation) or on portables and never on PC.

Of course you can get the games to run (green parrot and peg leg required - rum optional) under emulation on the PC. ;-)

If you are a keen gamer (especially the competitive ones) who games on a console and/or PC you will want the best controller (game-pad and/or mouse & keyboard) so these people will be happy to shell out for the so called best.

I would not say that Sony has wasted it's money since the COD franchise is a money spinner. While I have virtually no interest in FPS's, fighting and sports games I am well aware that games in these genres definitely sell more than the games I like. Do I care? Well not really.

I can't comment on FF9 since I have never played it although I have played FF4, 5, 6, 7, 8 10, 10-2, 12, 13 and 13-2 and found all of them to be excellent games although to be fair it took me a while to get into FF8 since I found the main character to be annoying.

I am playing Tales of Xillia and have found that the actual fighting can be quite complex. You don't just keep pressing the same button and selecting menus although you can for some of the fights. However by...

FFXII was a departure from the so called "battle zone" which is basically common in all other FF games. For some this was not acceptable but for others like myself and many others this was more in line with modern RPG's although I do remember Breath of Fire 3 1997/8 did this as well.

Like you have said choosing the best of the series varies from person to person and IMHO that is a good thing.

Personally I have never liked Kingdom Hearts but I definitely liked FFVII although I was fairly lukewarm with FFVIII but it did improve as you advanced in the game.

I do think that FFVII is viewed through "rose colored glasses" since it was the first FF on the PlayStation 1 and like I have said it was a good game. Would I buy a remake of FFVII for the PS4? Well that begs the question since I don't have a PS4 yet since I am waiting for a bundle that will entice m...

A remaster can be a better option that the original game although you would have to compare them in terms of graphical output and gameplay although in most cases gameplay would not change.

A good example if you have a PS3 and an original PS1 game is to display on a large HDTV. In most cases the output is very grainy and not that pleasant to look at even with smoothing on.

If you have an original backwards compatible PS3 and PS2 games and display to a large sc...

@BakPAin

Sony never pulled backwards compatibility from the original (FAT) PS3's since I still have one and it is up to date firmware wise and I can still play PS2 games. They did pull the "Other OS" capability but lets be honest here "how many people really made use of it"?

In later release models of the PS3 the PS2 capability was not implemented, the touch buttons replaced with physical buttons, 4 USB's to 2 USB's and the rem...

@TWB

There were basically two types of PS3's that PS2 backwards compatibility. The first one had basically PS2 hardware for full compatibility while the other (I still have one) had a mixture of PS2 hardware with software emulation but this only worked for 85% to 90% of PS2 games.

All PS3's can play PS1 games however I would only recommend a small screen TV for a display although the smoothing software on the PS3 does a reasonable job most games appea...

Backwards compatibility is a very good selling point for next generation consoles on their initial release since it usually means people can still play their old games while waiting for the next gen library to be built up.

Of course you also have to look at the mindset of the gamer. If you have a gamer that just likes playing the latest game and has no interest in older games then backwards compatibility is pointless to them. On the other hand if you have a gamer that still l...

I still use my BC PS3 to play PS2 games although all PS3's can play PS1 games.

Because the BC PS3 can smooth the output of older PS2 games the output like an up-scaled DVD on a large screen HDTV so the picture while not as stellar as the true PS3 game it is still quite good and of course the game-play still has not changed.

Unfortunately PS1 games do look grainy on a large screen HDTV with the amount of graininess depending on the game. so If anyone has o...

Ah the N64 controller I don't know which it worse that or the NES controller, but at least you could put sleeves on the NES one.

To be fair some games actually did allow more comfortable use of the N64 controller although quite a few did not.

That controller also has a cable which to some may be preferred, however I think the majority of players would prefer wireless controllers. Of course the price seems reasonable.

As for the offset thumb sticks I do prefer the symmetrical ones myself although like I have just said that is a matter of preference.

Now for a bit of trivia: Take a top down look at the SNES controller and compare that to a top down look of the the PlayStation controllers.

I am going to agree and disagree with you on this.

Basically the people who watched the 1997 movie Titanic more than once were mainly young people not grandparents. Personally I don't mind watching a movie two or even three times providing I allow a decent (very subjective) time between each viewing but going back in the same day and watching another 3 hours and 30 minutes is IMHO ridiculous.

Personally I would rather play a game than watch a movie since ...

Name some real "stinkers" of games and while we are at it movies or even TV shows and you have got Titanic ;-)

Of course what some people call bad may be the "second coming" to some it's all in the eyes of the beholder.

Basically Movies are meant to be passively watched while games are meant to be interacted with by the player or players.

@ShugaCane

Totally agree, well said.

@MysticStrummer

Yes the Movie Titanic did capture the movie going public however it actually was a remake a of the 1958 movie which was the film adaptation of Walter Lord's book A Night to Remember (1955). Basically the popularity of the 1997 movie was IMHO mainly du...

You have to remember that when developing a game for a console you have to be aware what you are going to output to and that is a HDTV.

Most HDTV's have a refresh rate of 60Hz although some have refresh rates of over 100Hz so a game that is running at 60 fps may be indistinguishable from a similar game running at 30 fps on a standard HDTV. A PC monitor is different to a HDTV and unfortunately many PC people think that all games should run at 60 fps and above which may imp...

I do agree that indies can bring new IP to gaming compared to so called tipple A gaming which IMHO seems to being doing a rinse/repeat on existing franchises although every now an then new IP does happen. Yes I do know they are in a business which in turn is responsible to their shareholders.

The problem is that some indies are incredibly lazy to the point of just ripping off IP from existing games. Take a look at some of the games that are on Steam.

Still waiting for a bundle that will entice me to buy a PS4. I actually can afford to be very picky since I have a backwards compatible PS3 and a large game library comprising PS2 and PS3 games. I do have PS1 games and all PS3's can play them however they do look very grainy on a large screen HDTV so I rarely play them.

Fortunately or unfortunately depending on your preferences I do like Action/Adventure/RPG's and many of the games I like take many 10's of hours t...
