While I still don't have a PS4 for a variety of reasons, the main one being I have a huge collection and backlog of action/adventure and/or RPG's for my PS3 and since I do have a backwards compatible PS3 I can still play my collection of PS2 RPG's.
I will eventually buy a PS4 since I would definitely like to play Bloodborne and Dark Souls 2 (I have held off getting this for the PS3).
The more I look at the number of steadily growing RPG's for ...
@bartender64
That is a big "if". "If" Microsoft purchased AMD and "if" Microsoft got details of the up and coming PS5 assuming Sony or even Nintendo uses AMD, then I foresee litigation that would seriously hurt Microsoft.
You are quite correct "violating trade secrets and company espionage" breaks international laws although like any lawbreaker you have to be found guilty. Still the bad PR alone would make Microsoft thi...
Well if they did release Skyrim for the PS4 they better fix up that 6MB save file bug/annoyance and up the graphics to 1080p with a solid 30 fps or better.
@Summons75
Personally I did like FF13-2 which IMHO was better than FF13 (I still enjoyed it though) although I do agree that FF10-2 IMHO left a bit to be desired.
As for Skyrim well I hope there isn't a version 2 although we do have to remember the company has a duty to it's shareholders so it may be possible to set new events say 100 or more years in the future.
@DragonKnight
I think you are looking at FFX through &...
The thing to remember about the world that Tamriel is part of is not just geography but also time as well. The events in Skyrim were actually set a few hundred years after the Oblivion crisis which occured in Cyrodiil.
The next Elder Scrolls could be Elsweyr, Black March, High Rock or even a a location that has already been played before, however you may find that the times are different.
Anyone who has played Oblivion or Skyrim or previous games will know th...
While it would be rare for me to play a PS1 game anymore (I do have 30 of them) since they even with smoothing on appear grainy on my 55" HDTV, however PS2 games normally output like upscaled DVD's and are quite nice to play (well nearly all of them).
I still do play PS2 as well as PS3 games so at the moment I still can't convince myself to purchase a PS4 since I will still have to keep my FAT PS3. There are about 5 PS4 games (all RPG's) that I would like to ...
From the article it mentions Microsoft's "ridiculous DRM and online-only policy" which lost them a huge amount of sales.
Secondly the article mentions the proposed backwards compatibility which "is something that gamers would almost always entertain as a value-added feature."
Thirdly the article mentions in passing that "the HoloLens demo was quite promising."
Well that pretty much sums up the article. Oh and...
I have worked on computers that would make the latest PC look like a hand calculator, however for home use you still can't beat the X86 architecture PC since they are relatively cheap and can easily be built (sort of like Lego) although you do have to have some smarts to do this.
Hardware or software present no difficulty to me, however when I want to game for relaxation and enjoyment I still prefer consoles, a game-pad, a large screen HDTV as well as a comfortable sofa a...
I actually upgrade my PC every 7 to 10 months to the latest version of the OS and it normally only takes me about an hour. Personally I don't run a Microsoft Operating System since I only run Fedora (22 is the latest) which has a Linux kernel.
I normally update every week and that normally takes less then 5 minutes and while the update is running I can do other things. If I do get an update to the Linux kernel or some critical part of the OS I only need a reboot at my con...
I am sure that most people who view this firum have some sort of PC so it would be very difficult to disagree with what you said.
@SolidStoner
The PC and by that I assume you mean X86 with a Microsoft Windows Operating System maybe the ultimate machine for everything for you but there are other architectures and operating systems out there that are every bit as good and subjectively even better.
I personally run on an X86_64 platform with Fedora 22 (L...
There are 4k games? Really, please name them since the last time I looked (1 month ago) only 1 graphics card came very close but no cigar to actually supporting 4k and it wasn't exactly cheap.
As for displaying on a 4k TV/monitor most non 4k content is up-scaled although this still looks very nice. Basically the so called 4k gaming is actually mods not the actual game.
Even if you do get a rig that can provide close support for 4k gaming it is going to co...
This article is about a new 500GB PS4 not the 1TB model that is supposed to be coming soon.
As for the 1TB model, for some people that will not be enough especially if you are into digital downloading.
Personally I would only purchase physical media since you can get that cheaper if you are prepared to wait and second hand which is even cheaper again. You can also reload again and you can be playing in a few minutes. Granted that a digital download game can b...
I don't have a PS4 yet for a variety of reasons but at the moment the main one is that I have a huge backlog of PS3 games and even some PS2 (yes I do have a BC PS3) games that are getting a replay.
The problem is I like RPG's which can take well over 40 hours per game to play (some over 100 hours) and in that department I am trying not to look at the latest PS4 RPG's which I know will take me a couple of 100 hours to even partially complete.
I onl...
The trouble with PS1 support is that while it is possible is that not many people have original PS1 game disks anymore. Also a PS1 game even with smoothing on (all PS3's can play PS1 games) appears to be fairly grainy on large screen HDTV's. I normally recommend a small screen HDTV when playing PS1 games.
As for PS2 games. On a BC PS3 most PS2 games display like up-scaled DVD's some great some not so great but all playable.
I definitely agree with...
Actually it would be fairly easy for Sony to provide software emulation for PS1 and PS2 games on the PS4 since that has already been done for the PC. Implementing software compatibility for PS3 games well that is not going to be easy unless you are getting the digital download and for some PS3 games they are many Giga Bytes.
Even if BC was implemented for PS1 and PS2 games how many people still have their original game disks?
Well I am going to agree and disagree on this one. Some so called old games are classics and still fun to play although that is being subjective. Having BC at the start of the new gen is IMHO a great means of getting people to purchase your new console since they can carry over their old last gen games. This was my main reason for purchasing a PS2 and later the BC PS3.
Yes there are a ton of new games for the PS4 but IMHO there are so many that are just a regurgitation of th...
It's no big deal for me to build a PC however those prices are a bit on the low side. If you purchase for a low to medium end PC you would be hard pressed to get one for much under $400 or to you does the keyboard, mouse, monitor and Microsoft Operating system cost nothing.
As for a high end PC, well open your wallet and I will tell you when to close it.
BTW. I am well aware that a keyboard and mouse are relatively cheap but any decent gamer would be will...
@maelstromb
I have Skyrim for the PS3 and one of the most glaring bugs occurs when you get to a 6MB save file (5 to 8 hours into the game). The game can crash or in the majority of cases freeze while the auto-save is operational which can be as much as a minute. The only fix is to turn off all auto saves at this stage.
Of course you can still get the odd crash but they don't happen that often and it's always a good idea to manually save before you en...
Definitely agree with what you said.
While I don't have access to the software libraries (think API's if you don't know what I mean) and development tools for the PS3 and PS4, however I would make a fairly informed guess that there would not be that much of a difference between them. So basically if you develop for one it would be fairly easy to develop for the other since most system calls would be the same.
Of course if you are going down to wha...
FF4, FF5 and FF6 had turn-base and active turn-base although with active turn base you could pause to select what you wished to do.
FF7 had turn-based only and (I think) FF8 was the same. Not sure about FF9 since I never played it.
FF10 was turn based only although you could and should switch in and out your party members.
FF12 was active turn based although you could switch to semi-active which allowed you to pause while you selected what yo...
